"‘Joy inside the body’ is the philosophy behind Santan Tofu Shop, located in Nakasu Kawabata, Fukuoka, a popular restaurant known for its long lines. They aim to convey the joy of connecting with others, the joy of enjoying delicious food, and the joy of staying healthy through various tofu products under the motto ‘Ichijou Isshin.’ Recently, they opened a branch on Watanabe Street, positioned just left of Sakurajyuji Hospital, following the path at the corner of the very popular restaurant 'Umezan Teppen Shokudo.' I visited on a Saturday to coincide with their 11 AM opening time, as I expected a queue for this always-busy spot.
I debated between the 'Tofu Rice Set' and the 'Thick Fried Tofu Set' but decided on the Tofu Rice Set. It featured 'one whole piece of tofu simmered in soy sauce on top of barley rice, with plenty of shredded sea bream,' along with 'a side of cold, thin tofu udon with burdock tempura,' and a small dish of 'okara potato salad.' Since the Tofu Rice Set is available in limited quantities, it was incredibly delicious!
The texture of the tofu noodles paired perfectly with the soy-milk broth, creating a fantastic harmony. The crunchy barley rice, the softness of the tofu, and the elegant, deep flavor of the shredded sea bream all contributed to an indescribably delightful experience! For dessert, the tofu ice cream had a smooth and creamy texture, with no noticeable tofu flavor, while both the hojicha (roasted green tea) ice cream and chocolate ice cream were also very tasty.
I definitely want to try the 'Thick Fried Tofu Set' next time!"

Near Watanabe-dori Station, I went to "Mihara Tofu Shop Annex" after finding that the main branch at Nakasu Kawabata Station was fully booked. The atmosphere was pleasant, and the service was attentive. The dishes are healthy, so I felt less guilty while enjoying delicious tofu cuisine. Since it’s a popular restaurant, it's better to make a reservation.

It was really delicious! The atmosphere was great too! I definitely want to visit again when I travel to Fukuoka. It was a restaurant famous for its tofu-based dishes. The potato salad in the photo was tasty, and the tartar sauce that came with the fried horse mackerel was mayo-free, so I could enjoy it guilt-free!

The lunch at Miyahara Tofu Bekkankan offers a variety of satisfying and healthy dishes that heavily feature tofu. This time, I had the silken fried tofu with minced meat sauce set meal. The dish was carefully prepared, showcasing the flavor and texture of the tofu beautifully. The tofu was crispy on the outside and incredibly delicious, providing a good portion size that left me feeling full without being heavy—it was a gentle meal on the body. The comfortable atmosphere allowed me to enjoy a relaxed time. Reservations can be made in 15-minute increments, so there was no need to wait in line. I highly recommend making a reservation before you go.

I visited the annex of Mi-hara Tofu Store. I had a lunch set that costs 1,500 yen. It includes tofu potato salad, tofu rice, wheat noodles, and tofu chocolate. I really enjoyed the tofu dishes. They were healthy, full of flavor, and delicious. It's a popular restaurant, but you can make a reservation, so I highly recommend it!

I was recommended by a friend in Fukuoka to make a reservation because it's delicious. You can't even get in without a reservation. As expected from a tofu restaurant, the fried tofu was delicious, and the yuba (tofu skin) was amazing too. The horse sashimi was also really tasty. I’d love to come back for lunch. I have created wonderful memories from my trip.

I saw that there was a line, but I arrived at noon and was able to get in smoothly. The restaurant has counter seating that is great for solo diners, which I appreciated. I ordered the "toumushi" (tofu dish), and the portion of rice was quite generous, so I ended up feeling pretty full. I came with a companion, and I finished my meal first. The staff asked if they could bring the dessert, and I said yes, but my companion was still eating, and their dessert was served right away too. Since it was tofu ice cream, I thought it was a bit odd to bring out the dessert for my companion when they hadn't finished their meal yet.

Since I had visited the main store in Nishinakasu before, this time I went to the annex. Two women were in charge of the cooking, while a male manager seemed to be taking care of the drinks. They were singing while working, and they looked like they were in a good mood. All the food was delicious. The pork shabu with green onions was in a gentle soy milk soup, which was really nice. I was too full to enjoy the last dish. Thank you!

■Visit Date and Time: I arrived on Friday at 13:30, just in time for the last order at 13:30.
■Ordered Dishes:
◯ Fried Tofu Lunch - 1,500 yen
◯ Tofu Rice Lunch - 1,500 yen
■Taste:
◯ Fried Tofu Lunch: The fried tofu was chewy! It was generously topped with a lot of ground meat, making it very satisfying. Of course, I ordered a large portion of rice ( ◠‿◠ ). When I added the spicy sauce, it became, as expected, quite spicy, and I could feel a little sweat forming on my cheeks (⌒-⌒; ) haha.
◯ Tofu Rice Lunch: Personally, I found my husband’s order of the tofu rice to be tastier! It featured real tofu (laugh) topped with shredded mackerel and wasabi. The texture was incredible, and it was fresh and delicious. The ice tofu chocolate was really tiny but wonderfully rich and didn’t taste like tofu at all. The flavor of the roasted green tea was nice and aromatic.

I briefly had doubts that a menu centered around tofu might be too light and unsatisfying, but those feelings quickly vanished! Surprisingly, the dishes were quite filling, and everything was delicious. The atmosphere of the renovated old house, along with the stylish selection of drinks, also added to the experience!

The restaurant is located about a 5-minute walk from Watanabe-dori Station on the Nanakuma Line. It's a new concept from "Mihara Tofu Store," serving as a cafeteria during the day and a different venue at night. The establishment, converted from an old house, has a warm and calming atmosphere. There are both counter and table seats available. On my first visit, I ordered the "Toumashi" (1,500 yen). From what I heard, almost everyone else was also ordering this dish.
The Toumashi includes the following:
- Tofu bowl topped with shredded sea bream.
- Cold burdock udon (small) with soy milk broth.
- Okara potato salad.
- Ice tofu chocolate (two types). On this day, the options were "Hojicha" (roasted green tea) and "Plain."
The Toumashi is visually impressive. However, I felt a bit disappointed with the flavor. I was expecting a taste that highlighted the deliciousness of the tofu more; instead, the sauce's flavor was quite dominant, which was a letdown for someone who loves tofu. The cold burdock udon was very tasty. The soy milk broth is enjoyed with "green chili and sesame" as toppings, but be careful with the amount, as it can get quite spicy. The noodles paired well with the soy milk broth and were thin yet had a nice firm texture.
The okara potato salad was made from okara, but it didn’t have that typical grainy texture, making it easy even for those who aren't fond of okara to enjoy. Lastly, the chocolate was smooth and melted in the mouth, with a depth of flavor that was surprising for tofu chocolate.
As for the service and atmosphere, I appreciated the energetic staff who greeted customers properly. However, I found it a bit uncomfortable when the staff spoke loudly among themselves and, when delivering food, mentioned that they would need to inform me of remaining time due to a reservation. This was not a very pleasant experience, especially since they told me I had about 15 minutes left at that point. I wonder if the vibe changes in the evening. Thank you for the meal!

I visited the annex of Mihara Tofu Shop located on Watanabe Street, which I had been curious about. Although some menu items were sold out and I had limited time, I managed to try three dishes, and each one was delicious! In particular, the tofu with eggplant in thick sauce had a rich flavor reminiscent of meat sauce, and it was very tasty! Overall, each dish highlighted the natural taste of tofu, which was great. Since the restaurant is popular, the dishes come out slowly, so I think it's best to visit when you can relax and enjoy the meal.

Nestled in a quiet spot just a step away from Watanabe-dori, this shop is a renovated old traditional house that exudes warmth with its wooden decor. The tofu specialty shop offers original tofu dishes that are healthy, and they have an impressive selection of drinks as well. It's said to be a renowned establishment located in Nishinakasu.

The restaurant is located just one back street from Watanabedori, near Umezan Teppi Shokudo. I previously enjoyed the lunch at Mihara Tofu Shop in Nakasu, so I wanted to try this place as well. Even though it was Sunday lunchtime, there was no long line, just one group ahead of me, so I was able to get in. The interior, converted from a traditional house, is similar to the main branch. I was torn between the Tofu Rice Set and the Deep-Fried Tofu Set, but only the Tofu Rice was available. To be honest, I don't think I'll be returning for the Tofu Rice specifically. While the uniqueness of tofu rice and the overall tofu-themed menu is indeed healthy, I found the entire offering to be just average. Additionally, although the Deep-Fried Tofu Set was also meat- and fish-free, I felt that the price of 1,500 yen was a bit too high for both a treat lunch and a regular meal. If I have the chance, I would like to try the Deep-Fried Tofu Set next time.

The tofu rice bowl "Toumetsu" features a whole block of tofu on top of rice, served in a cute Arita-yaki original dish that resembles a "tofu pack"! This restaurant, famous for its tofu and rice combination, is one I've wanted to visit for a long time. I had heard that it’s always crowded even on weekdays, but surprisingly, there was no line on the day I went.
I ordered the summer limited "Toumetsu" for 1500 yen, which included a tofu bowl topped with shredded sea bream, a small cold burdock tempura bowl, a side of okara potato salad, and two types of ice cream tofu chocolate. The Toumetsu had a whole block of tofu sitting on the rice, generously topped with shredded sea bream. The tofu was simmered in fish broth, so the flavor of the dashi was deeply infused, making it incredibly delicious!

"The staff are professionals. On August 3rd of Reiwa 6, the elusive fried tofu was the champion! Since I was at a tofu specialty store, I only enjoyed tofu dishes. While there are meat and fish dishes available, it was wonderful to watch the chef's skills live and experience their passionate service, even while sweating. #FukuokaGourmet #FukuokaIzakaya #MiharaTofuStore #MiharaTofuStoreAnnex"

I visited the branch of Miharadofu Store. I heard they had lunch, so I ordered the most popular set (¥1,500). It came with half a block of tofu, and underneath, there was rice packed in, which was delicious with the sauce. Additionally, the summer limited udon was also very tasty.

I always found it difficult to enter this restaurant during lunchtime due to the long lines, but around 1 PM on a weekday, there were no lines and I noticed some empty seats, so I decided to try it for the first time. The restaurant has counter seats near the entrance, making it easy for solo diners to come in. I ordered the limited-quantity dish called "Toumetsu." I was worried whether it would still be available at this time, but I was able to order it. After about 10 minutes of waiting, my meal was served. I instinctively thought tofu would be healthy, but it was seasoned well, and I was pleased to find it delicious with just one bite. The thin noodles had a robust dipping sauce, and everything was of high quality, living up to the reputation of Mihara Tofu. It was so good that I want to visit again in the evening. However, the atmosphere in the restaurant, particularly the loud chatter of some staff members, was quite distracting; it felt a bit like an izakaya.

I ordered the legendary deep-fried tofu at Mihara Tofu Shop, which I've always wanted to visit. The outside was crispy, while the inside was rich with the flavor of soybeans. It was a taste I had never experienced before, and I was truly impressed. The staff were all very friendly and served us with smiles. I would love to come back with someone special.

I have visited the main branch of Mihara Tofu Shop in Nishinakasu, but this was my first time at the annex (^^). I arrived just before 11 AM on a weekday and found two groups ahead of me. Soon, more people started to line up, and within minutes, there were about ten of us in line, including myself! By 11:10, the line stretched around the corner, and by around 11:15, it started to curve out of sight! If you want to dine in the first round, I recommend getting in line just before 11 AM (^^;;).
This time, I ordered the "Annex Set Meal with Tofu Rice" and shared the spiced curry udon. The chilled burdock udon was refreshing and had a smooth, rich flavor thanks to the soy milk and dashi broth! The noodles had a firmer texture than store-bought tofu somen, with just a bit of chewiness. Adding green chili to the broth introduced a nice sesame oil scent for a flavor change! Personally, I preferred to enjoy it straight without any adjustments (o^^o).
I usually struggle with okara, but the okara potato salad was easy to eat, with a pleasantly tangy and slightly sweet flavor—it didn’t have the usual crumbly texture of okara! The tofu rice (with shredded tai fish on top) was very refreshing thanks to the shiso leaves, and the thicker sweet soy sauce complemented the smooth silken tofu perfectly! Though there wasn’t a huge amount of fish, the flavor came through nicely when eaten together. I initially thought having just tofu on rice would be bland, but it turned out to be really delicious! Adding shichimi spice gave it a flavor reminiscent of grilled eel rice (^^).
The container was quite deep, and there was a substantial amount of both rice and tofu, making it quite filling! The noodles in the spice curry udon were flat, reminiscent of kishimen, and had more chewiness and elasticity than the chill burdock udon from the tofu rice set. The combination of curry spices and soy milk created a creamy and delicious dish! It was definitely worth the wait for lunch, though lining up might be a bit challenging during the hot season (^^;;).

I visited the restaurant around 11:30 for lunch. It was a weekday, and I had to wait about 30 minutes to be seated since reservations for lunch are not accepted. The tofu was fluffy and creamy, very delicious, and the seasoning was fantastic as well. I also enjoyed the thin udon noodles served with a rich soy milk broth and delicious burdock tempura; the flavors complemented each other perfectly. The portion was generous, which left me feeling full. I would love to try the dinner menu, too. The staff was cheerful, the interior was stylish, and it was a lovely, healthy dining experience.
