Here’s a glimpse into my culinary adventures and daily life, featuring the amazing Tenpura Sushi Seafood Yonefuku! If you could save this post for later, I’d really appreciate it! ♥️
I recently visited Yonefuku for lunch after hearing about it from @kyoyakko_grme. Here’s what I enjoyed:
◕ Negitoro and yam topped rice bowl set (1,190 yen)
◕ Large shrimp tempura bowl (1,590 yen)
At Yonefuku, they exclusively use 100% rice oil for their tempura, making it nutritious and delightfully crispy!
◆ Large Shrimp Tempura Bowl
The shrimp tempura here are about 2.5 times the usual size, creating a stunning visual with a towering presentation. The sheer length and thickness of the shrimp are extraordinary, and I wasn’t able to capture it all in one shot! Sorry for that — even the head of the shrimp was gigantic! While I was busy taking photos, the giant shrimp started to tip over and was about to fall out of the bowl, but luckily my wife made a great catch! ❤️ We both laughed loudly, relieved with “Safe!!” That’s just how unsteady this massive shrimp was — it’s not something you can eat in one bite! Despite its size, it was perfectly crispy thanks to the rice oil used for frying.
◆ Negitoro and Yam Topped Rice Bowl Set
This set came with four types of tempura: shrimp, pumpkin, crab stick, and eggplant, all served in a large bucket filled with plenty of yam for a nutritious treat to rejuvenate the body. And the best part? You can get a free upgrade to a large portion of rice! I’m not sure if “large” is really a healthy option, though! (laughs)
Before opening, there were about 30 people waiting, and the restaurant is spacious enough to accommodate everyone — probably around 60 people! After we finished eating and stepped outside, we noticed another 30 people waiting, which shows how popular this place is! They also allow lunchtime drinks, and you can enjoy a meal for around 1,000 yen, making it a beloved spot among locals!

I visited the restaurant for lunch with my mother. We came across this place and lined up before it opened at 11:30, but already about five groups were waiting. I ordered the tempura rice bowl, which came with an astonishing amount of food: two shrimp tempura, two chicken tempura, eggplant tempura, pumpkin tempura, and chikuwa (fish cake) tempura. By the way, they offer large portions of rice for free. The crunchy tempura was all exceptionally delicious, maintaining its crispiness even after adding sauce. There was also a separate sauce provided, which had a slightly stronger flavor, but most diners seemed satisfied with the already applied sauce. On the table, there were also sprinkle toppings and warm tempura dipping sauce available, so I think it was easy to enjoy the meal without getting bored until the end. The volume of food, price, and service were all outstanding, and my mother was very satisfied as well.

I had a tempura set meal, but the tendon looked really delicious as well. There were also set meals with sashimi, so I was able to enjoy a big lunch. I could also order extra tempura, allowing me to eat as much as I wanted. The restaurant had plenty of seats, and I was able to get in right away.

The taste was average, and the tempura sauce was overly salty. More than that, it took 25 minutes to be served lunch. I can understand if they were busy, but the staff was casually humming a song while frying the tempura and chatting with someone in the back kitchen. There were at least ten people who had been waiting for over 20 minutes, and yet they had no sense of urgency. I will never go back. While it might work for foreigners, it certainly doesn’t for Japanese people. They ruined my lunch break.

I was able to enter the restaurant without a reservation on the weekend around 5 PM. The restaurant was already bustling, and by the time I left, there was a line outside, so making a reservation seems like a good idea. The seared Awa Black Beef sushi had a generous portion on top, which was very satisfying! I also ordered the salmon and tuna seared sushi, tempura, and stir-fried octopus, all of which were delicious.

On the second night of my trip to Kyoto, I made a reservation in advance and went to a restaurant. Even though it was a Tuesday evening, the place was almost full and bustling by around 6 PM. I was particularly happy to try the Kyoto matcha beer! All the seafood was delicious, but the sushi and tempura never disappoint. The hot tempura was served with grated daikon, dipping sauce, and two types of salt for your preference. Everything was delicious, including the grilled eel and the egg on rice!

The tempura is fried 100% in rice oil, making it incredibly crispy and light! It was so delicious that I could have eaten as much as I wanted! The tempura of raw salmon and white leek is a rare treat, and the combination of the tender salmon and the crunchy batter is irresistible. I recommend enjoying the tempura with salt rather than dipping sauce, as it enhances the crispiness and flavor! Highly recommended!

Mifu has arrived at Shijo Karasuma! They offer not only tendon (tempura rice bowl) and tempura set meals, but also a wide variety of seafood dishes. The young male staff are super energetic! Here’s what I ordered: ✅ Tendon (990 yen) with a free upgrade to large rice. The tempura includes 2 shrimp, 2 chicken tempura pieces, eggplant, pumpkin, and chikuwa. The size of everything except the chicken tempura is impressive! Everything is freshly fried, crispy, and piping hot♡ I think it's a great deal to get change back from 1000 yen (*˘︶˘*).。.:*♡

I visited for lunch on a weekday. Around 12 PM on Wednesday, there were seven groups waiting, indicating it is quite popular. Thanks to the large number of seats, I was seated in about 10 minutes. There were many international tourists, which added to the atmosphere. I ordered the Tempura Set for 1,090 yen and the Buckets of Rice Set for 1,190 yen. Due to the crowd, it took about 10 minutes for my food to arrive. You can choose the rice size for free: small, medium, or large! The Buckets of Rice Set featured a unique combination of tororo, tuna, and green onions, creating a delicious negitoro bowl. The tempura had a crispy and crunchy coating, and even when it got cold, it was still tasty. There were various condiments available: tempura dipping sauce, salt, shrimp salt, and tempura soy sauce, and the shrimp salt was flavorful and delicious. I spotted a large tempura shrimp bowl at a nearby table, and the shrimp was so big it was hanging over the edge of the bowl… Next time I visit, I definitely want to try that too! Thank you for the meal.

The inside of the restaurant isn't very spacious, and it might feel a bit cramped for two people at the tables. The tempura, especially the mentaiko (cod roe), was particularly delicious. The sashimi was average, neither good nor bad. The potato salad and the egg weren't exactly amazing, but overall, for two people, we left feeling full after having two drinks, and the total was around 10,000 yen, which is reasonable.

This was my first visit since the restaurant moved, and it's been so long that I can't even remember the last time I was there. I ordered the tempura set meal and chose to have a large serving of rice. I recall that they used to have free refills on rice. The rice was perfectly cooked. The nori furikake was still available as well. The tempura included half of a chikuwa (fish cake), a quarter of an eggplant, half of a thinly sliced pumpkin, two shrimp, and two small chicken tempura pieces. I wished there was an egg included, but that felt a bit indulgent. We shared the daikon radish, which was a bit scarce. The miso soup was average but okay. It would have been nice to have free refills and some pickles on the side. Prices felt somewhat high compared to what I remember from before, but the taste was excellent, so I left satisfied. Thank you for the meal!

The dish is satisfying, and it comes with extra sauce for the tempura bowl. You can choose the rice size from large, medium, or small. I ordered the medium size, and it felt a bit small at first, but it was packed with chicken tempura, shrimp tempura, and pumpkin, making it very filling. I went during lunch hours but had no waiting time before entering the restaurant. At 1500 yen, I think it's a fantastic deal!

I visited for lunch and was very satisfied with the great cost-performance. The freshly fried tempura was delicious. The portion size was just right, and I think a man could easily handle a large serving of rice. I would love to visit again when I'm craving freshly fried tempura.

This was my first visit since the relocation. It was quite bustling, and there was a line with several people waiting for about 15 minutes to get in. There are now lunch menu options that weren't available before the move. I ordered the Negitoro and Tororo桶盛り丼定食 for 1,190 yen. The set meal included a bowl of negitoro and tororo, tempura (shrimp, crab stick, pumpkin, and eggplant), red miso soup, and grated daikon with wasabi.
The rice bowl was not seasoned, so I used the soy sauce on the table to make a wasabi soy sauce. The tororo was topped with cubed tuna and smashed tuna, then garnished with green onions, shredded nori, and ground sesame. I was a bit disappointed that the green onions were somewhat dry, but the soft texture of the tororo and negitoro mixed with the rice was delicious. I ordered the rice in a large portion, but I felt like I could have eaten more.
The tempura was crispy as it was fried after being ordered. I enjoyed it with the tempura dipping sauce and grated daikon available on the table. This tempura sauce is a darker type, close in color to soy sauce. The red miso soup had seaweed, rolled fish cake, and scattered green onions. I really like the flavor of the red miso soup here. Next time, I might try the shrimp tempura bowl. Thank you for the meal!

There is a tempura restaurant in Shijo Karasuma that has recently moved just a little from its previous location. The prices for the tempura are affordable, and the quality is quite satisfying. The tempura of ramen was particularly interesting. Since I visited this time as a second stop, I would like to try a leisurely meal here next time as my first stop.

I casually stopped by a place called Comefuku. The sign for their seafood bowl caught my eye (laughs). It was a little before opening, and there was already a line, so I wrote my name down at the reception. Shortly after, I was called in, and my order came, but it was different from what I had ordered, so I had to wait a bit longer. When the seafood bowl finally arrived, it was great, but as they set it down, some of the red miso soup spilled. Since it was only a little bit, I closed my eyes and took my first bite—the big shrimp on top was delicious! However, the green onions were wilted ( ; ; ) I ended up feeling a bit disappointed, as this happened three times, which really dampened my happy mood.

I visited without a reservation on a weekend around 5:30 PM. Thankfully, I managed to get in just before the rush. I tried various dishes, and the sashimi platter was excellent. However, to be honest, I felt that the rest of the offerings were somewhat lacking in quality, possibly aimed more at tourists, which was a bit disappointing considering this restaurant's reputation in the area. The location has changed and looks nice now, so I had high expectations, but it was slightly underwhelming.

I visited a restaurant with a system where you write your name outside without a reservation, and they mentioned a two-hour time limit. I arrived after 6 PM and saw there were three groups ahead of me, thinking it would be manageable since one rotation had just occurred at 5 PM. I sat on a chair outside, but most of the people waiting were foreigners, and as time passed, many of them left due to the long wait. The staff, being busy, couldn't keep track of this. To get to the point, I would recommend making a reservation. The tempura itself was delicious, possibly fried in rice oil. However, the service aspect was lacking, and it seemed like they were understaffed, which made the employees appear overwhelmed. I think if they could improve in various areas, it would be a much better experience. Thank you for your service.

In August 2024, I visited a new restaurant called "Tempura Sushi Seafood Yonefuku Shijo Karasuma," which opened on August 8th, right near the previous location. The restaurant has a rating of 3.01 on Tabelog with 15 reviews. They specialize in seafood, sushi, and tempura, and it seems to be quite popular. The seating capacity has increased to nearly 70 seats, and during lunch, there were about three people waiting outside.
The interior has a calm atmosphere, and I was seated at the counter. While waiting, I looked at the menu and quickly ordered the "Yonefuku Seafood Don" (990 yen including tax), which comes with miso soup. The dish includes shrimp, salmon, amberjack, negitoro (minced tuna with green onion), egg, and shiso leaf.
The freshness of the ingredients was decent, and the dish was delicious! Next time, I want to try their healthy tempura bowl made with 100% rice oil for that crunchy texture. Thank you for the meal!

I ordered 10 pieces of sushi and 5 types of tempura. There was a local Kyoto beer available, so I decided to try it, only to find out it had an alcohol content of 9% (laughs). Since I usually prefer around 5%, it was quite a challenge to finish it. The sushi and tempura were delicious, and the tempura didn’t feel oily at all, making it easy to keep eating. It’s a popular place, so reservations are a must.
