Udon Biyori @ Yoshida / Chiku Tamaten Bukkake (cold) Large & Sasami Tempura & Mini Negi Toro Don
This week my schedule was a bit irregular, and even though I usually work the afternoon shift on Tuesdays, this day happened to be my day off. Well, I didn't have much to do so I decided to go to the udon restaurant I've been wanting to try. I took the Chuo Line from Sakaisuji Hommachi to Yoshida. I had only taken the Chuo Line to Takaida before, so changing to the Keihan Line from Nagata seemed like a new experience.
I arrived at Yoshida Station and walked to the restaurant. It's about a 5-minute walk from the station (I didn't measure it though). When I got there, it was almost 11:30 am, and there were a few customers waiting in front of the store. They have a system where you write your name and number of people on a waiting board and then wait. I wrote my name and waited in front of the store for about 15 minutes.
Finally, I was able to enter the restaurant. I had already decided what to order, so I ordered the cold Chiku Tamaten Bukkake, Sasami Tempura, and a Mini Negi Toro Don set. Oh! When I asked for the noodles to be large, the staff said, "You must be hungry," which caught me off guard (laughs). It made me a bit anxious (how much noodles will there be?). They had a sign showing that the cold noodles would take about 15 minutes to prepare. I'll patiently wait!
The udon arrived. Ah, it's clearly larger than the neighboring person's bowl (laughs), but the amount of noodles was less than I had imagined, which was a relief. I tried a bite of the udon first. The noodles were cooked soft, but the unique texture they had was incredibly good. The smooth surface and great throat sensation were amazing. The broth was lightly seasoned, but it had a solid umami flavor that was satisfying, and the umami flavor seemed to increase as I continued eating.
The tempura had a crispy coating and a good texture. The Chiku Tamaten had a rich umami flavor that spread as you chewed. The Tamaten had a runny yolk that was also great. The Sasami Tempura was light and refreshing, something you could eat a lot of (laughs). The Negi Toro Don was delicious when you poured the dashi soy sauce over it. This was also really good.
After finishing my meal, I went to pay, and the staff asked me, "Did you finish it?" So I replied, "Yes, I finished it!" and they said, "Amazing." For me, it's a normal thing, so I involuntarily replied, "Is it?" But well, maybe not many people order the large udon? I don't know (laughs). Seriously, I found another great restaurant! I take my hat off to the deliciousness. I definitely have to visit again. I'll be back.
