I heard that a new restaurant serving fresh shirauo rice bowls, delivered directly from Haruki Fishing Port in Kishiwada, opened on September 18, just a two-minute walk from exit 10 of Awaza Station on the Sennichimae Line. Since it's in an office area, I thought it would get crowded, so I went to check it out right away. Previously, I had a traumatic experience with bitter shirauo in Kamakura, but the fresh shirauo I had in Awaji Island was delicious, albeit expensive. At this new place, I was surprised to find a bowl with both boiled and fresh shirauo for just 900 yen. The ratio was about 70% boiled and 30% fresh, and it was tasty without the bitterness! I added a raw egg for 50 yen, turning it into a decadent egg-over-rice dish. Squeezing some lemon and drizzling soy sauce on it made it even better. The bonito flakes and tenkasu (tempura bits) were great accents. I’m definitely going to try making something similar at home! The set meal came with miso soup, and I also noticed that they offer an unlimited amount of shirasu tsukudani (shirasu pickles) at the table, though I restrained myself. Additionally, you can get one free rice refill. They also have options for tempura and drinks. I also tried the white fish set meal, which today included suzuki, buri, and sawara, and it was 1000 yen. It was fantastic! I left about half of it and then requested some warm broth to pour over the remaining ingredients, adding sesame and wasabi for flavor, accompanied by pickled vegetables. It was smooth and delicious. In the evening, they seem to have izakaya-style menus with sashimi and quality Japanese sake, which makes me want to take my family there!

I took a stroll around the Abazaka station area after a long time, and noticed that Kinmugi Uemon has closed down... The surroundings have really changed! This place used to be a rather confusing Chinese restaurant (no offense!), but now it seems to have transformed into a specialty shop for shirasu (young sardines) bowls. Looking at the menu, I saw that they even offer fresh shirasu. From their offerings, I ordered the "Mountain-Pile Shirasu Seafood Bowl" (¥1,430, tax included), which lets you enjoy both raw and boiled shirasu along with various seafood. The dish that arrived looked just as in the picture. Perhaps because the central market is nearby, the colors of the seafood, including the shrimp, were vibrant. Needless to say, the seafood was fresh; the boiled shirasu was fluffy while the long-awaited raw shirasu melted in my mouth. Additionally, I want to note (although it's a minor point) that the rice was cooked a bit firmer, which paired nicely with the shirasu bowl when I drizzled soy sauce over it. If I could wish for one thing, it would be great to have a sea-flavored miso soup, like one with aosa seaweed or a fish bone broth, available as an option. Nonetheless, since this area didn't have a place like this before, it seems I'll have the opportunity to try other menu items in the future.

I can't believe you can eat Yosimaru's fresh shirasudon (baby sardine rice bowl) right in the middle of Osaka! It feels like fresh shirasudon is something you'd only find near the sea, but you can enjoy it here at such a reasonable price! As for the taste... there was absolutely no fishy smell, and the texture was so plump and juicy.✨ When you combine it with the creamy egg yolk, you get a smooth and rich flavor followed by that delightful plumpness. If you're craving fresh shirasudon, I highly recommend checking this place out! I ordered the fresh shirasudon for 1,200 yen. ⭐️ Ryoji's score: ★★★★★ Definitely worth a repeat visit! ★ The deliciousness pops into your mind first! ★ You should definitely give it a try!

I visited for a weekday lunch after seeing information on the morning show "Sumatan" about a discount of ¥300 on the bill! I decided to drop by and try the following: ○ Kamaage Shirasu and Namashirasu Rice Bowl Set - ¥900 ○ Namashirasu Topping - ¥100 *Note that these prices do not include tax. I learned that the owner, who is a fisherman, provides fresh Namashirasu caught from Osaka Bay every morning! My excitement was through the roof! After placing my order, my bowl arrived shortly. The large bowl was filled with a fluffy layer of kamaage shirasu, and at the center, a bed of namashirasu was laid on top of perilla leaves. It was like a treasure box of shirasu! I apologize for getting a bit carried away there. The visuals were just that impressive! Along with the rice bowl, there was miso soup, shiba-zuke pickles, sesame, wasabi, and cut lemon on the side. You can squeeze the lemon for a refreshing touch with the namashirasu! The shirasu was top-notch in both freshness and flavor, and for this quality in Osaka city at this price, I was truly impressed. Another great perk is that you get a free refill of rice! There was also shirasu cooked in a soy sauce-like sauce in a small teapot, which was absolutely addictive. I believe it was available for purchase in packs at the checkout, but please confirm just in case. The ¥300 discount for mentioning "Sumatan" should be valid until October 18, so please check with the restaurant beforehand! Today, as always, I am grateful for all the blessings. Thank you for the meal!

I visited this restaurant for the first time with a coworker during lunch, after seeing it featured on the local Kansai morning show "Sumatan." If you mention "I saw Sumatan" when paying, you'll get a 300 yen discount off your bill. I had the fresh shirasu (whitebait) and boiled shirasu rice bowl, which was incredibly delicious—I was genuinely impressed. It was so good that I quickly returned the next day for lunch and tried the weekly special: fresh shirasu and raw egg rice bowl. I expected to wait in line since it was featured on TV, but I managed to get in without any wait. I might go back again tomorrow! Even after the discount period ends, I'm definitely coming back. Thank you for the wonderful meal!

Today, I'm having lunch in Awaza at Shirasu Donya Yoshimaru. I feel like it has been here for a while, but since there are orchids lined up, it might be a new place. I took a seat at the counter and ordered the "Kamaage Shirasu Don" for 880 yen. It arrived in about 10 minutes. The bowl is filled with plenty of shirasu, and it comes with miso soup, condiments, and pickles. The shirasu is on the larger side. The combination of shirasu, rice, and soy sauce is great. It’s delicious! After refilling my rice, the dashi chazuke was also quite good. This meal was really tasty. Thank you for the meal!

I heard on the radio that a restaurant specializing in fresh raw shirasu from Osaka has opened in the city! I couldn't resist trying the raw shirasu, so I went with a bowl of boiled and raw shirasu. I was amazed by the quantity of shirasu, which exceeded my expectations. I thoroughly enjoyed the fresh shirasu! I also ordered some broth to enjoy halfway through, and for the finish, I added it to my bowl (note that it doesn’t come with the dish initially). I definitely want to visit this restaurant again. At the register, there were take-home packs of boiled shirasu and raw shirasu, which were both delicious and a great deal!

I visited a seafood izakaya where I could enjoy fresh shirasu caught in Osaka Bay, all at reasonable prices. Their lunch menu features options like the "White Fish Seafood Bowl - Osaka Bay Style" for 1,100 yen, "Heaping Shirasu Seafood Bowl" for 1,430 yen, "Boiled Shirasu Bowl" for 880 yen, "Raw & Boiled Shirasu Bowl" for 990 yen, "Marinated Tuna Seafood Shirasu Bowl" for 1,650 yen, "Luxury Bluefin Tuna Shirasu Bowl" for 3,080 yen, "Super Luxurious Three-Color Bowl" for 3,080 yen, and the "Ultimate Yoshimaru Bowl" for 3,300 yen. Plus, there’s an unlimited supply of raw shirasu served in a pot. You can also add drinks and tempura to your set meal. I decided to go with the "Boiled Shirasu Bowl" and added tempura, while my companion chose the "Ultimate Yoshimaru Bowl." It's an indulgence that goes beyond just luxury—it's ultimate! The boiled shirasu was plump and tasted incredibly fresh. I drizzled some soy sauce over the unlimited raw shirasu and enjoyed it. The interior of the restaurant was cozier than I expected and was fully packed, so it’s wise to make a reservation before visiting.

At Yosimaru, a seafood izakaya run by active fishermen in Awaboza, Osaka, their specialty is fresh, boiled, and cooked shirasu (young sardines). They serve shirasu that is boiled and prepared just 10 minutes after being caught in Kishiwada. Incredible, right? I ordered the "White Fish Seafood Bowl" for 1000 yen, which is something that’s not commonly found. The white fish was delicious, and the boiled shirasu was fluffy and perfectly salted! It also had tenkasu (crispy bits) sprinkled on top, which was a delightful addition. The fresh raw shirasu even on a Saturday was tasty! I devoured it all (≧∀≦). Then, I took advantage of the free rice and topped it with raw shirasu for an additional 100 yen (what a steal!) and raw egg for 50 yen, creating my own shirasu rice bowl. It was incredibly delicious (^^). Even though my plating skills are zero (≧∀≦), I couldn’t resist! In the end, I added some of the leftover rice with all-you-can-eat cooked shirasu and poured some free broth over it. I got to enjoy three different dishes for a total of 1265 yen, including tax! Isn’t that an amazing value? (^^) *Note: No parking available, but there's a coin parking lot for 300 yen per 30 minutes (≧∀≦).* *Accepts PayPay* #OsakaGourmet #OsakaLunch #AwabozaGourmet #AwabozaLunch #SeafoodLovers #FishLovers #RawShirasuBowl #BoiledShirasuBowl #Yosimaru #RawShirasu #Shirasu

I visited Yoshimaru, a shrimp shop located on江之子島! For shrimp lovers, it’s a paradise. In the end, I still think the boiled shrimp is the most delicious, but the fresh raw shrimp and the freshly cooked shrimp, harvested in the morning, are both incredibly good. When you ask for the finishing touch of dashi rice porridge, you’ll get some delicious broth, making it twice as enjoyable! The fresh shrimp shipped directly from Kishiwada Haruki Fishing Port was delightful. Thank you for the wonderful meal!

New shop opening! Although it's technically a new name for the previous "Toto-ya" restaurant, it's a nice change. The place has a counter with 10 seats and several tables, providing decent capacity. During the time of "Toto-ya," their shirasu (baby sardines) was outstanding, so I'm really happy that they've focused on that. I tried the raw shirasu yukke (748 yen) and shirasu salad (638 yen). The shirasu salad was quite generous for the price, piled high with shirasu, making it a great deal. The shirasu served is of high quality, often referred to as "upper shirasu" at fish markets. While raw shirasu can spoil quickly, this one was fresh and free from any unpleasant smell. However, both dishes had sauce and dressing that were a bit too strong, perhaps putting on more than necessary. Since shirasu is small and delicate, it gets overwhelmed by the flavors of the broth, so I’d prefer a lighter touch or serving the sauce on the side. This is just my personal opinion as a shirasu lover. That said, it's definitely better than the previous restaurant! The dinner sets available at night seem like a great value. They serve Asahi Super Dry beer for 473 yen for a large glass. There's a good selection of sake here, while the shochu options are pretty standard. Thank you for the meal!

I visited a “shirasu don specialty shop” operated by a shirasu fisherman, located a 4-minute walk from Abos駅. I enjoyed the raw shirasu & boiled shirasu don for 990 yen (including tax). The bowl offers a delightful combination of raw shirasu and boiled shirasu, piled high, and since they use directly sourced shirasu from the fisherman, it’s an excellent value! At the table, they also have “namadaki shirasu,” made with fresh shirasu caught that morning, allowing you to enjoy a triple shirasu experience. To finish off, you can have it as a dashi chazuke (rice in broth). There are various toppings available, and they also offer seafood don and hon-maguro (fresh bluefin tuna) don. In the evening, you can enjoy a variety of dishes, sashimi, tempura, and a rich selection of drinks. If you're craving freshly caught shirasu, be sure to check it out!

I had a half-and-half serving of fresh and boiled shirasu for ¥1500. Since I had tried the boiled variety at a shop in Kishiwada, I was already familiar with the taste of shirasu, but the fresh shirasu was truly exceptional. However, I found it quite challenging to finish all of it without changing up the flavors a bit. The pickled dish made in the morning that was on the table was also delicious.

Just opened on September 18th near Abosaka Station, this restaurant offers boiled whitebait made from freshly caught fish from Osaka Bay. The owner is a fisherman who directly sources fresh whitebait from Kishiwada Haruki Fishing Port. I tried the following dishes: - **Fresh Whitebait & Boiled Whitebait Rice Bowl** - **Ultimate Yoshimaru Bowl** You can truly taste the flavors of the sea with these delicious whitebait dishes. The fresh whitebait has no unpleasant smell and is sweet, making it a perfect complement to the rice. An extra bonus is that you can enjoy a free refill of rice! Each dish comes with broth, and you can pour it over the rice to make a tasty chazuke (rice soup). The miso soup is made from high-quality tai (sea bream) scraps cooked in a large pot. During lunchtime, they offer unlimited fresh boiled whitebait, and the same rice bowl menu is available during dinner at the same price. Just 90 seconds of running from the exit 10 of Abosaka Station, this place is a must-visit for whitebait lovers!
