Last time I only had juice during the daytime, but today I opted for a meal with wine. I had the most affordable Ikeda Beef Wagyu Pasta Standard for 1,800 yen. This price range isn't something I can visit often. I ordered a glass of red wine to go with it. A long time ago, when I was financially well-off, I had the chance to drink many famous wines from around the world, mainly from France. However, times have changed, and I’m pretty much out of the loop regarding new wines. I didn't recognize any of the red, white, or sparkling wines by the glass in this restaurant, so I asked to see the bottle list but still couldn’t really understand it. Well, I guess I just had to drink it anyway. The wine was better than I expected. The color of the wine was hard to see in the dim light of the restaurant, but it seemed (probably) deep. It was rich and could be considered a full-bodied wine. The alcohol content was strong, and as someone who is sensitive to alcohol, I quickly felt tipsy. It had a faint sweetness, acidity, and bitterness that were all well-balanced, with a fruity character. The serving temperature seemed just right for the wine. It's a wine that typical red wine lovers would enjoy, but I wouldn’t recommend it to those who dislike red wine due to its strong red wine characteristics; however, for red wine enthusiasts, it’s quite good value for the price.
The pasta looked simple on the menu outside the restaurant, but it had some added performance during the serving. First, the hamburger patty was cut into four pieces (I thought it would have been good to check with the customer beforehand about this. At least I wanted to take a picture first). Then, cheese was shredded in front of me, and black pepper was ground from an unreasonably large pepper mill right before my eyes. The black pepper grinder was one that I could stop at any time, but the cheese was stopped by the staff. I’ve seen in shows that they keep adding cheese until told to stop, but it was the black pepper that had that system... I thought. Since I was alone today, I personally don’t find such performances necessary, but I can see how it would be enjoyable for couples dining together.
The Ikeda Beef hamburger was coarsely ground with a strong red meat flavor, giving it a meaty and wild character. There were a couple of hard chunks that I couldn't bite through, which could have been cartilage or something else. I didn’t mind that. The pasta was made with Halyutaka wheat from Ebetsu and had a thick, chewy texture. I prefer this over al dente. I enjoyed the pasta with the juicy hamburger meat mixture. It was quite delicious, and I was able to savor it until the end. Perhaps next time I’ll go for the hamburger?
As a side note, a staff member who seemed to be the manager (probably not from the region) caught my attention when a customer from outside the area asked about the location of Ikeda Town. He answered that it's near Sapporo, which made me interject, "It’s next to Obihiro. The Wine Castle is famous here." I apologize for interrupting. As a native, I just couldn’t stay quiet.
