I had been wanting to visit a restaurant in Imazato, but I was thrilled to find out that a second location has opened in the Daiyapalace Building in Naimotocho. I decided to try their lunch, and it was delicious, so I've been going back for dinner as well.
**Lunch: Daily Special - Fried Chicken with Chili Sauce**
The main dish was fried chicken with chili sauce, accompanied by small sides (fried white fish and spring rolls), salad, soup, and steamed rice. The crispy fried chicken with chili sauce wasn't too heavy, making it easy to eat. The fried white fish and spring rolls were warm and tasty, while the soup had a gentle flavor that I really liked. It's robust enough to satisfy a hungry guy, but it doesn’t seem to use commercial seasonings or ingredients, giving it an overall mild but authentic taste.
**Dinner: Seafood Champon**
I requested a delivery from my usual spot, though it seems they typically don’t offer delivery. The restaurant staff kindly brought it over since they had just opened, and I was grateful for the fantastic price of 1500 yen for a bowl that included a whole crab. The broth was red but not overly spicy, so even those who are sensitive to spice should be fine. It was packed with ingredients, and I thought the flavor resembled that of a spicy tofu stew (just my opinion). The noodles were smooth and easy to eat, making it a really delicious seafood champon.
**Dinner: Light Drinking Set**
They mentioned they are still experimenting with their menus, and the light drinking set is a sort of temporary option (it might not be available anymore as of mid-May). For 1080 yen, you get a drink, spicy chicken, century egg tofu, and a moist salt bean. The spicy chicken was seriously delicious and highly recommended, as it’s not too spicy and easy to eat, with a delicate flavor that pairs wonderfully with beer. The century egg tofu had no strong flavor, making it easy to eat in large quantities. The salt beans were a lovely snack, and of course, you’ll find yourself wanting to order more beer to go with these tasty dishes.
**Water Dumplings (Celery, Korean Style)**
I added some water dumplings because I heard they were good. The celery dumplings were particularly delicious, so I’d recommend them to anyone who doesn’t dislike celery. The Korean style dumplings were also tasty and easy to enjoy.
**Lunch: Sweet and Sour Pork Set**
After a health check-up, I was grateful for an early lunch at 11 a.m. The pork had no excess fat and was thoroughly fried. Though the texture was fibrous, it was tender and delicious. The ingredients included onions, bell peppers, lotus root, carrots, and black fungus, with plenty of pork chunked throughout for some hearty volume. The slightly sweet sauce had a refreshing acidity mixed in, making it a refined dish with a rich yet pleasant taste that is easy to eat.
**Dinner: Mapo Tofu**
I had to try the mapo tofu, right? That’s why I ordered it as a side while I enjoyed a drink. The tofu was silky and hot, with a nice level of tanginess without any harshness. The spice level was moderately spicy, and the balance of heat and flavor was just right, making it very tasty. Mapo tofu pairs well with beer, but it must also go perfectly with white rice. There’s a mapo tofu set available at lunch, so I plan to try that next time.
P.S. The taste seems to be free of chemical seasonings. Although it’s rich, the aftertaste is pleasant, making it truly delicious. It’s fortunate to be able to enjoy the cooking from Shikinjo without needing to go all the way to Imazato. I hope they continue to offer attractive dishes in the future!
