After 30 years, I visited Kyoto and was a bit surprised to find that most of the tourists were foreigners. However, I was really glad to come to Uotake, where I could enjoy authentic Kyoto cuisine at reasonable prices. When you think of summer, you think of pike eel! I've only seen pike eel on gourmet TV shows in Tokyo, so it was amazing to witness the skilled knife work right in front of me. The flavors from this restaurant with a 90-year history were indeed superb. The special chirimenjako and the mountain of rice were absolutely delightful. It was delicious!
