I decided to try having lunch at a yakiniku restaurant called "Tokin" after a bad experience dining alone there at night. I found the restaurant easily accessible by car with a parking lot for about 10 cars. The restaurant was not too crowded, with only about 5 groups dining during lunchtime. It seems like not many people go for yakiniku during the day, as I don't recall going to a yakiniku restaurant during the day before. The friendly staff informed me that there are three lunch menu options available, but I could also order from the regular menu. Even though the temptation to have a beer and enjoy a yakiniku party in the middle of a weekday was strong, I had to resist as I was still working. I ordered the Yakiniku Gozen set for 950 yen plus tax. The set included various items like pumpkin, onion, USA Kalbi (marinated), Sagari (salt), Tongue (salt), Seseri (salt), Sendai Beef Tongue (salt), Raw Hormone (miso), Genghis Khan (marinated), rice, soup, salad, kimchi, and a choice of green tea, oolong tea, or orange juice. Rice was refillable, and the table had condiments like gochujang, salt, soy sauce, garlic, and lemon. The table also had a large charcoal grill for cooking the meat. I found the USA Kalbi a bit tough, the Sagari slightly gamey, the Tongue very fatty, the Seseri reliable, the Sendai Beef Tongue thinly sliced with a bit of chew, the Raw Hormone tender but I prefer salt over miso, and the Genghis Khan the most enjoyable. I noticed that many other diners were ordering the lunch set and adding on a few extra items, but I was content with just the set. I wish they had a similar set available for dinner, as it would be perfect for dining alone.
