The fact that smoking was allowed in these old-fashioned coffee shops was a downside. The morning toast set came with coffee, 2 slices of toast, and a boiled egg for ¥500. The coffee was delicious and the toast was quite thick. For this price, the value was great. The master, who seemed to be in his early 70s, was running the place alone. He was friendly and even engaged in conversation with me, but sometimes he would suddenly bring up topics like big motorcycles, leaving me unsure how to respond (laughs). I enjoyed the blissful morning while eavesdropping on the conversations between the kind master and the regular customers. The lunch menu, with a signboard advertising "light meals," also looked appealing. If I have the chance, I would like to try the Napolitan next time.

It was a bit hidden in the back of a complex building on the first floor, but I'm glad I went.

The atmosphere inside is lovely, with worn-in, sunken sofas that make you feel like time has stopped. It's a rare find these days to have a smoking area, but when I visited, no one was smoking, it's all just a matter of luck. The lunch comes with coffee, but since I don't drink, I opted for the "Pilaf" dish. Served on a large plate, it was a light meal with no heavy portions, which was perfect for me. The seasoning was like consommé, with some unevenly sautéed parts, but that added to the charm of a traditional coffee shop. There were plenty of mushrooms, onions, leeks, finely chopped carrots, and a small amount of mysterious meat. The dish was refreshing, and the consommé soup served as a palate cleanser. On a day like this, it's best to eat lunch nearby, right? So, yesterday afternoon, after making a deposit at Hokuyo Bank in front of Sapporo Station, I was walking towards Yodobashi thinking of grabbing a meal at McDonald's, when I saw a sign that caught my eye. It said "Light meals and coffee" which sounded nice. I arrived just before 11 am, and the small interior of the shop had a nostalgic Showa era vibe. It was dimly lit, with a few men in business attire relaxing inside. I don't think they were skipping work, though (laughs). Back in the Showa era, I used to see salesmen like that. I looked at the menu that the old lady brought over. Flipping through the pages, I saw a variety of drinks like coffee, tea, and soft drinks, and a selection of dishes like spaghetti, curry, fried rice, and more. I found a lunchtime service that included coffee with dishes like meat sauce and curry, but when I tried to order the lunchtime omelette rice, the lady said, "It's still before 11 am." It was only 10:54 am. The lunchtime service starts from 11 am to 3 pm. So, I ended up ordering just the omelette rice. The interior of the shop was cool, with the BGM playing screen music. It wasn't music from the 70s or 80s. If you heard "Rufuran," you'd probably think of Noboru Inoue (laughs). Noboru Inoue debuted in May 1979 with "Rufuran." Although he wasn't a successful idol singer, he is now active as a music producer. I learned today that Noboru Inoue's husband is Ed Yamaguchi, the older brother of Moto Fuyuki from the comedy song and impersonation band "Busy For." They even have a YouTube channel called "Ed & Noboru Singing Banzai Enka." It's like seeing the face of a classmate from 40 years ago (laughs). The omelette rice arrived in about 5 minutes. It was served on a large plate with a side salad of cabbage, cucumber, and tomato with French dressing. And it came with soup. The rice was wrapped in a thin omelette and topped with ketchup. It wasn't the fluffy type. I took a bite. I love mushrooms. The ketchup rice was just right, not too strong or too light, but there was no chicken in it. I'm not imagining that the chopped char siu was in it, right? It was delicious. You can eat it quickly. The consomme soup also had a good flavor. It's a light meal that you would expect from a cafe. It was simply delicious. Next time, I'll try the meat sauce and spaghetti, but there's only a Japanese-style option. I wonder how that will taste. Thank you for the meal (laughs).

Today's lunch was decided in advance! I had the Neapolitan at a Showa-style coffee shop! I arrived around 14:00 on a weekday without looking at the menu and ordered the Neapolitan. There was one customer before me, so I waited a bit for a seat of my choice... and then it arrived - the Neapolitan! The dish had beautifully shredded cabbage, cucumber, and tomato on top. The Neapolitan itself had onions, sausages, bell peppers, and mushrooms mixed perfectly with the noodles. The taste was mildly sweet and sour, and the noodles were slightly chewy. The only downside was the visible cotton dust on the air conditioner right in front of me... But overall, the Neapolitan was delicious!

This café has a nostalgic atmosphere with a slightly outdated but cozy feel, perfect for enjoying Dry Curry and reminiscing about the past. The menu offers Dry Curry and Curry Pilaf. I asked the owner about the difference, and Dry Curry is curry-flavored fried rice, while Curry Pilaf is pilaf topped with curry. I ordered the Dry Curry without hesitation. It was a bit mild in flavor, but exactly as I imagined - fluffy rice, a hint of curry, and a variety of vegetables like carrots, green onions, eggs, meat, and onions. The plate also included shredded cabbage, cucumber, tomato, and Fukujinzuke, all well-balanced and delicious. I wish there was more Curry Pilaf, but perhaps the portion is just right to leave you wanting more. I have tried other dishes at this café, like Ginger Pork and Napolitan, and they were all delicious. Properly boiling an egg should be a basic skill for a café. Overall, I didn't find any compelling reason to choose this café over others. Maybe I'll give it another try during lunchtime if I have the chance.

It's been so long since I last visited this place! I ordered a cafe au lait for 580 yen. I'm not sure why I chose cafe au lait, but it just came out of my mouth! It was a simple drink, but with the added flavor of nostalgia, it tasted delicious. This is a classic "kissaten" (Japanese-style cafe) with a retro vibe that I love. ◆Sapporo Station Area - Ruffran (Lunch)◆ This is my second visit to Ruffran, located just outside the north exit of Sapporo Station, right after crossing the pedestrian crossing. I apologize to non-smokers, but for us smokers, this is a really relaxing space. During lunchtime (11:00 am to 3:00 pm), prices range from ¥600 to ¥600 for Dry Curry (includes soup and hot coffee). The atmosphere inside and the taste are reminiscent of the good old days of Showa-era "coffee shops". The coffee is delicious too. If there was a good shop like this near my workplace, I would definitely become a regular customer.
