It's a lunch on a holiday. This is a specialty shop for Sendai beef tongue located on Odori Street in Asahikawa City. It is a sister store of Sendai's "Kisuke". It opened in 1996, so it has become well established in Asahikawa as a "delicious beef tongue restaurant". Although we didn't talk, the owner seems to have been at "Kisuke". Otherwise, they wouldn't be able to proudly call themselves a sister store... Lunchtime can get quite crowded at times, so arriving 5 minutes before opening, there are already cars parked. The regular beef tongue set is 1,760 yen, and the thick-cut set is 2,420 yen. Even though it's a holiday, crossing the 2,000 yen mark for lunch... I hesitated a bit, but there are few places in Asahikawa where you can eat authentic beef tongue, so I went for the thick-cut set... I ordered the "thick-cut set" (2,420 yen)!
The meal arrived in about 10 minutes. The set includes beef tongue, oxtail soup, pickles, and barley rice, and you can have up to 3 servings of barley rice for free. I haven't been to Sendai in a while, so it's been a while since I had authentic beef tongue, but the thick-cut one is clearly thicker than the beef tongue set that others ordered. When you bite into it, the meat juice spreads in your mouth. The meat is relatively tender and easy to eat. You can enjoy it with just salt, dip it in the "miso nanban" miso provided, or dip it in the wasabi with green onions. There are various ways to enjoy it! The oxtail soup is delicious with a moderate amount of salt. The oxtail is simmered to a melt-in-your-mouth texture. The barley rice can be refilled up to 3 servings, they said. There is plenty of cabbage pickles, should I get a refill? I thought, but surprisingly, it was served in a large bowl, so one serving was enough. I was thinking of ordering the grated yam for 260 yen, but if I order it, I might end up eating three servings... so I stopped myself and had a delicious meal on this day!
