Today, I'm going for a walk to do some shopping at "Ni-Yon" (Two-Four). By the way, I wonder why it's "Ni-Yon" and not "Ni-yon"? Well, it says "Ni-Yon" on the official website of the Kitaku Ward Office too (laughs). Anyway, yesterday was Sunday, and the Kita 24 Street and Shinkawa Street were busy with a marathon event. Today, I need to go shopping because my stock of masks is running low, so I'm headed to Tsuruha. It's funny that there are two Tsuruha stores in the same neighborhood, both taking over former pachinko parlors (laughs). Speaking of which, in the neighborhood with the bus terminal, there are Lawson stores on the north and south sides (laughs).
Before shopping, I think I'll grab some lunch. I received a flyer in the mail about a joint sale for the Kunitachi and Sapporo Kita 24 stores, and I remembered, “Oh yeah, it came with a 10% OFF coupon...” When I checked the flyer, I saw that the coupon is valid from October 1st to October 31st, 2024…?? Seriously? It’s still August, and it skips September to October? Well, whatever (laughs).
I arrived just after 11:00 AM, shortly after opening, and I don't think there were any other customers. When I told the staff I was alone, they seated me at a four-person kotatsu-like table. I placed my order using a tablet, but the tablet at the first table was powered down. When the staff turned it on, it displayed a "Please charge" message. So, I moved to a table by the window, where the view wasn't too great.
I browsed the menu for a set meal and chose the "Kalbi and Harami Set Meal for 1,188 yen." While looking at the alcohol menu, I noticed "Asahi Super Dry Draft Beer for 319 yen"?? That's too cheap (laughs), so I couldn't resist ordering it. While fiddling with my smartphone, I suddenly felt something warm in front of me — was that a shichirin (grill)? (laughs) I had forgotten that's the name of the restaurant.
Next, my chilled draft beer appeared. Having a nice cold beer during the day at a restaurant is... fantastic! Soon after, within five minutes, my kalbi and harami arrived. The rice was a bit smaller, but it was packed well. There was a wakame seaweed soup, and what was that green item in the middle? It’s not spinach, right? When I tried it as a beer snack, I found it was seasoned with sesame oil and quite good.
I placed the meat on the grill. The smoke from the grilling kalbi was intense, but the smoke extraction worked well, so it wasn't too smoky. The sauce was pretty tasty as well. Halfway through, I tried the chili miso that was provided on the table, and it was pretty delicious! However, the harami pieces were really large—having scissors would have been helpful (laughs).
Overall, it was cheap, tasty, and well worth it. Thank you for the meal!
