I was looking forward to enjoying the silver rice at this restaurant run by a rice shop that also has a rice milling section. As I went up the stairs, I noticed there were standing seats, and I confirmed if this was the right place for my 9:00 PM reservation. I arrived at 8:55 PM, waited five minutes, and immediately ordered the silver rice among other items. This is a typical Osaka izakaya! The customers were so loud that I could hardly hear the background music. It really felt like Osaka... I had been eagerly anticipating the silver rice, which arrived around 8:50 PM.
Then, at 9:00 PM, an incident occurred! The staff announced that smoking would be allowed from 9:00 PM and started distributing ashtrays, aggressively. The two people on my right began smoking regular cigarettes, while the left side lit up with e-cigarettes. I found myself trapped between invisible smoke and swirling clouds of smoke! I felt like an asthma attack was coming, and I didn’t even have time to take a photo of my egg over rice before I had to escape!!!
As I hurried to the register to settle the bill, I was told to pay at my seat. There was no way I was going back there, so I insisted on paying here! Despite my request for a non-smoking or smoke-free area, they completely ignored it! I was right in the middle of the smoke. For a non-smoker, it was unbearable!
Here’s my detailed evaluation: 2 points.
Price/Standard: 2800/5000
Landmark:
Target dish: Refer to photos
Taste feedback: The white rice was delicious, but it had a burnt and shriveled appearance, possibly due to the pot? Even though I cook in a pot at home, I never get such burn. The shishamo with mentaiko was completely falling apart; there was no need to put it together. The tofu was nice, but the grilled chicken was a bit soggy.
Atmosphere: Noisy
Staff: Average
Hygiene: ?
Points: I should have chosen Bibiu instead, but since I had made a reservation, I felt stuck.
*Rating Guidelines:
5 points and above: A place I wouldn’t want to tell anyone about... so I won’t mention it. (Rarely, I might write about some 5-point places outside of their rated category.)
5 points: I only give this to one favorite place in each category (one for ramen, one for curry, etc.).
4.5 and above: A place I want to visit repeatedly, even if it requires traveling and waiting in line.
4 points and above: A place I want to visit multiple times, suitable for business meetings and friends.
3.5 and above: A place on my revisit list.
3 points and above: If I’m nearby... I might go if there’s no other option.
2 points: I will look for another place and won’t go there again.
1 point: Never going back, even if invited.
Below 1 point: Not even fit for food; shouldn’t be in the hospitality business.
(Note: Even if a place gets 3.5 or above, if I get bored of the menu after several visits, my rating may drop.)
