I visited a restaurant that opened last year in Osaka Shinmachi for a networking event. The layout includes a long counter and two table seats, with potted plants displayed throughout. It was an extremely hot day, so the air conditioning was set to maximum, making the table seats in the back uncomfortably cold. Despite the poor facilities, the restaurant was quite busy, with around 30 seats and a near-full occupancy due to customer turnover. However, the staff was limited, resulting in very poor operation, with drinks taking a long time to arrive. There were long stretches when my glass was removed, but I had nothing to drink. When I sought improvements, some of the staff provided quite poor service, making the experience uncomfortable.
The billing system is also unusual in that they do not accept bills over 6,000 yen, but if the total is over that amount, they reduce it to 6,000 yen by discounting up to 2,500 yen. They also have a mysterious homemade lemon sour priced at 199 yen, which adds to the restaurant's oddities. The food was fairly tasty, and I believe it would appeal to a certain demographic, especially younger people. Personally, I dislike places with poor service and uncomfortable facilities, but for those who can overlook these issues, it might be a good choice.
The dishes were:
- Appetizers: Chilled tofu, crispy bacon potato salad, refreshing mixed myoga and eggplant, wasabi pickled edamame, mini celery kimchi, A5 Wagyu sirloin sushi, charcoal-grilled harami, charcoal-grilled sirloin, "must-try before you die" soba bowl, and a clay pot rice with Wagyu beef and burdock.
The rice portion was about four servings, which is a bit much for two people.
I would rate it a 3.43 out of 5, with a budget of 6,000 yen. Reservations can be made through Tabelog.
