I finally went to the Chinese restaurant Marucho that I've been curious about on YouTube. It's about a 3-minute walk from Higashi-ku Yakusho-mae Station, so the access is good. At 11:30, there were many customers, mostly middle-aged women, so it seems like a relaxing place. I ordered the large portion of fried rice and 3 pieces of fried chicken (Zangi). The fried rice had my favorite seasoning, salt, pepper, and soy sauce, which was excellent. The fried chicken (Zangi) was also well-seasoned and popular, appealing to people of all ages and genders.

It's been about 9 years since my last visit. Started with a cheers with an Oolong Highball.
- Duck smoked appetizer: full of savory flavor
- Zasai (pickled mustard greens): crunchy and lightly seasoned
- Grilled dumplings: juicy and delicious
- Mapo tofu: silken tofu, mildly spicy and easy to eat with a good hint of Sichuan pepper flavor
- Shumai: piping hot and meaty
I want to revisit because you can have lunch starting from 600 yen. (June 2023)

After enjoying the first party with lots of negima skewers, we headed over to this zone for the second party! It's located in the "New Sapporo Higashi Building", just a short walk from the negima skewer place! It's a pretty deep zone, and although I've driven by here before, walking here for drinks was a first for me! There are several deep shops on the second floor, giving me a strange feeling like I'm not in Sapporo anymore! By the way, the movie theater around here has already closed. A friend recommended this place for lunch, saying it's "cheap and delicious", so we decided to stop by for the second party! The atmosphere is like a typical Chinese restaurant, and the weekday lunch is only 600 yen. The most popular dish is the ankake yakisoba. We ordered some Chinese dishes that seemed perfect for drinking, like zasai, gyoza, shumai, and mapo tofu. The shumai was especially delicious! I'm curious about their lunch menu too! This zone is so much fun for drinking! I want to come back to Naebo for drinks and explore more local drinking spots. Let's head to the third place now! Thank you for the meal!

This is a Chinese restaurant located around the intersection of Kitako Line and Fighters Street in Higashi Ward, Sapporo City. I was intrigued by the Curry Chahan Don and visited for the first time. During lunchtime on a weekday, the interior of the restaurant was slightly dim with only one customer and it seemed like the owner and one staff member were managing the place. I ordered the Curry Chahan Don, which had a strong curry flavor in the sauce, a good thickness, and a moderate spiciness. The ingredients included pork, cabbage, carrots, snow peas, bamboo shoots, wood ear mushrooms, shrimp, and squid, making it a true Chinese-style rice bowl. The only downside was that the portion was a bit small, but overall, it was a quite delicious Curry Chahan Don. I am curious about the other menu items and would like to visit this restaurant again if I have the chance. Thank you for the meal~(^_^)

New Sapporo Building 1F, Higashi-ku, Sapporo City, Hokkaido, located near Higashi Ward Office. A Chinese restaurant on the first floor of New Sapporo Building. Visited around noon. The interior is narrow and more like an izakaya than a Chinese restaurant. There are 4 counter seats in front of the kitchen, 2 four-person table seats, and a solo counter attached to the wall. Two customers at the counter, one at the solo table, and a group of 4 businessmen arrived almost at the same time, almost causing a full house situation. Phew. After that, more customers kept coming in, and it became fully booked, with people being turned away. The lunch menu has 4 options priced at 550 yen. I chose the Ankake Yakisoba.
Lunch: Ankake Yakisoba 550 yen
Well, I was kept waiting. I waited for about 20 minutes after the 3 customers before me were served. Maybe because it's cheap, but it lacks volume. I would pay more, like 800 yen, for a larger portion... The dish looked delicious. It had pork, cabbage, carrots, snow peas, bean sprouts, and wood ear mushrooms. The pork was coated in flour and stir-fried, giving it a flavorful taste. The consistency of the ankake sauce was quite good. It had a lighter taste than expected. I wish it had more broth flavor. The noodles were thin with a crispy texture from being slightly pan-fried. They seem to be high-hydration noodles. I had to quickly speak up when the businessman who arrived after me tried to serve the ankake yakisoba first. It was already taking a long time, so I couldn't afford to be pushed back in line.

I had some errands at the ward office and was looking for a place to eat nearby when I stumbled upon this restaurant. It was like a mix between a snack bar, a cafe, and a Chinese restaurant. I decided to order the fried rice, and surprisingly, it was really delicious!

Exploring the Hokusei area in the heavy snow, I happened to notice a restaurant called "Chuka Marucho" with its door tightly closed, making me think it was closed. However, there was a sign in front of the door saying "Open", so I made excuses about being really hungry and entered the restaurant like a food blogger. The interior of the restaurant had dim lighting, resembling a Showa-era snack bar, with about 6-7 counter seats and 10 table seats. There were three salarymen-like customers already there, ordering a lot of Cantonese noodles. The lunch menu included options like "Ankake Yakisoba, Cantonese noodles, Mapo Tofu", all priced at 550 yen, available only on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. I ordered the "Char siu fried rice @550" and in about 10 minutes, a plate of fried rice with pickles on the side was served. The rice was cooked to my liking and the generous amount of char siu made it a great deal, but the char siu seemed to have a sweet seasoning, making the overall dish a bit too sweet. Considering the price, it's hard to complain, but having soup would have been a nice addition. There are many affordable lunch options in this area. I might try the Cantonese noodles next time. Thank you for the meal.

I went to Chuka Marucho! The 550 yen lunch was so cheap and delicious! The taste was like homemade, just the way I like it. It was crowded because it's cheap and tasty! Thank you for the meal!

The night covered in leeks is wrapped up here, at Marucho-san. Located in the New Sapporo Higashi Building, which I consider to have the most suspicious atmosphere in Sapporo. It's easy to enter from the outside, making it one of the more accessible stores in this building. Most of the ramen and Chinese restaurants around here close around 9 or 10 pm, so this place that stays open late is quite valuable. There are two 4-person tables, two 6-person tables, one 2-person table, and a counter with 5 seats. There are 3 customers already seated and no customers waiting. The interior of the store has a somewhat old-fashioned feel. I wonder why there are so many stores with this kind of atmosphere near the Higashi Ward Office, I don't dislike it though, lol. Looking at the menu, there are various meal options as well as a good selection of dishes that seem suitable for snacking. Today, since I was here for a late-night meal, I ordered the Ankake Yakisoba with soy sauce for 800 yen. It arrived in about 10 minutes. The dish consisted of stir-fried noodles topped with Chinese cabbage, snow peas, carrots, bamboo shoots, wood ear mushrooms, and pork in a thick sauce. The taste was just what you would expect from a standard Ankake Yakisoba, not too strong or weak, making it hard to describe its characteristics (^_^;) Reservations are required in advance, but they also offer all-you-can-eat options and banquet menus. If I have the chance, I would like to come back for drinks as well (^_^)

I tried the Ankake Yakisoba for 550 yen that I had been curious about for a while. I visited around 1:30 PM and there were no other customers. The interior of the restaurant is a bit dim, and the taste was really just average. I wish they would clean up the place a bit more.

On my way home from work, I went straight to Marucho Chinese restaurant. The lunch ankake yakisoba and lunch fried rice are consistently delicious! You can also add extra large portion for 150 yen. It's a taste that never disappoints!

It's a regular ankake yakisoba. I visited around 7 pm on a weekday. I was alone. It seemed like there were two people running the place. I ordered the ankake yakisoba since it was advertised. It cost 800 yen and arrived in about 15 minutes. The portion was a bit small, but it was a regular ankake yakisoba with firm sauce. There are many other menu options and they also serve alcohol, so it could be a good place to casually drink as well!

Today, I revisited a restaurant that was featured in a magazine called "oton" as I wasn't in the mood for ramen due to the consecutive hot summer days. I ordered the Chahan (fried rice) for 720 yen, which was generously topped with char siu. The flavor was slightly sweet, with a simple combination of egg and green onions. It was a bit oily and on the savory side. The soup had wakame seaweed in it but was on the lighter side. Surprisingly, it came with takuan (pickled daikon radish). They also offer daily specials, which I think is great for office workers. The restaurant is open until late at night, where you can enjoy Chinese food and drinks, but I haven't had the chance to visit during the evening.
In March 2014, I visited this restaurant after reading a review by piitantan. There are many delicious Chinese restaurants in the Higashi (East) area, but the Sapporo Toei Theater, also known as the Fighter's Street, has been a landmark in the deep downtown area for a long time. Among the various eateries in the Sapporo Building, this particular one caught my attention. Previously, it was a creative cuisine restaurant, but now it seems to be operating as a Chinese restaurant. Intrigued by the yellow flag, I ordered the Ankake Yakisoba (stir-fried noodles with thick starchy sauce), which was quite standard. My partner had the Small Plate Set (800 yen) with dishes like shrimp chili, mapo tofu, zangi (deep-fried chicken), shumai (steamed dumplings), salad, and soup. The portions were generous, with the shrimp chili being wrapped in egg. The mapo tofu was sweet with no spiciness. Since the owner runs the place alone, the zangi and shumai arrived later. The lunch menu is quite standard, but they offer a variety of appetizers. I plan to visit in the evening next time.

Visited for a weekday lunch. The owner runs the place by themselves, so there can be quite a wait during lunch hours. It can be tough if you have a time limit for your lunch break. LP ordered their favorite ankake yakisoba. It had the classic flavor that everyone loves, not too strong or too weak, just a normal and delicious ankake yakisoba. The tantanmen lacked a distinct sesame flavor, it could use a bit more kick. Overall, a brief pause for now, but it seems like it has the potential to become a strong contender. Bon appétit!

Sapporo Deep Zone, also known as "Oblique Street". Along this street, there is still a yellow adult movie theater called "Sapporo Toei Theater". Near the Higashi Ward Office in Sapporo, there are many restaurants crowded in the mixed-use building "New Sapporo Building". At night, the area becomes even more deep. One of the restaurants there is this Chinese restaurant. When you enter the restaurant, it has a cozy atmosphere like a bar. The vinyl tablecloth on the table is nice. I ordered fried rice (normal size). The sound of the pot and ladle clashing rhythmically at high volume is lively. The rice is nicely separated, probably due to the sound of the pot (laughs). There is plenty of char siu, which is nice. The salt and pepper seasoning is good, and I finished eating without any stress. It was a type of fried rice that I like. I would like to try the fried rice in a large size next time. Thank you for the meal.
