The gyoza and oden were incredibly delicious! Every other a la carte item was also delightful, and there were so many tempting menu options. The cheerful owner and staff made it fun to spend time there at the counter, so feel free to check it out! The restaurant is located along the Nawa-te street in Gion Shijo, nestled in a hidden space underground in a building. The U-shaped counter allows for a close view of the oden lined up right in front of the central seats. Next to it, there's a large pot of beef tendon stew, which was so enticing! It's perfect for solo diners, and there are table seats available for a second gathering, too. The concept here seems to be that while you wait for your gyoza to cook, you can enjoy delicious oden that is ready to be served right away. ✫…………………………………………………………… What I ordered: ● Oden assortment of 5 types ● Beef tendon stew ● Ginger gyoza ● Sicilian lemonade (I’m a kid at heart) ● Fried taro ● Salmon ochazuke (with oden broth for the ochazuke♡) The ginger gyoza is without garlic, making it easy to eat and light! There are also gyoza with garlic and steamed gyoza available. The oden has a wide variety, so if you're unsure, you can get a mixed assortment or choose three of your favorites and let them pick the rest! And while munching through the gyoza, I noticed a message written on the plate: "We look forward to seeing you twice a week!" (laughs) That shows just how good it is! (*^^*) The a la carte fried taro was hot, salty, and delicious, while the beef tendon stew was perfectly infused with flavor. The ochazuke was a delightful surprise! The ochazuke made with the oden broth was just incredible. It was the perfect way to end the meal! I wanted to try other items on the menu, but I was completely satisfied and full. It's delicious and affordable—highly recommended. Thank you for the wonderful meal!

I had an intense craving for dumplings and visited a place near Gion. I ordered the famous ginger dumplings along with a few other dishes. The ginger dumplings were small, just regular dumplings with ginger added. The potato salad was bland and it was unclear where the potatoes were sourced from. The stewed dish was rather salty, and the flavor of the daikon was overshadowed by the strong taste of the stew. I thought it might be better if they used kombu broth or made it in a style typical of Kansai. The location is good, though...

I was looking for a place for dinner and found this restaurant. My friend said they wanted to eat oden, so I decided right away after seeing the pictures. We made a reservation and went there. We were lucky to sit at the counter where we could see the oden being served, allowing us to fully enjoy the wonderful aroma of the broth. The taste was also excellent. The ginger-infused gyoza was delicious too! I would love to visit again if I have the chance.

Since it's located in Gion, there were fewer customers, allowing for a quiet dining experience. The seating consisted of a U-shaped counter and two semi-private tables. It felt like there weren't enough staff to provide ample service. I couldn't try many dishes (sorry, I went there when I wasn't very hungry), but the daikon in the oden was deliciously infused all the way to the center. It was disappointing that the serving of taro oden (300 yen for one serving) only came with two small pieces. However, there weren't any side dishes, so perhaps that’s just how it is. If the service were a bit better, I would feel comfortable visiting alone. It's nice to be able to avoid crowds and still enjoy a meal. Thank you for the food!

The restaurant is famous for its oden and gyoza. I ordered the signature ginger gyoza, boiled gyoza (with ginger), a selection of five types of oden, simmered beef tendon, menma (bamboo shoots), beef tendon fried rice, and for dessert, red and white Yuki Mitarashi mochi. The oden was incredibly flavorful! The gyoza had a hint of ginger that made it so delicious, I could easily want to visit twice a week. The beef tendon fried rice was originally a staff meal, but it was so good that it was added to the menu. The beef tendon was very tender, and I highly recommend it!

I visited Gion Shoga Gyoza Suicho in Gion, Kyoto this time! The restaurant is famous for its oden and gyoza, so I ordered a variety. We had a sampler of three types of quickly served dishes, gyoza in three flavors, a five-item oden platter, fried chicken, yakisoba, and some drinks including Ebisu beer, Yamazaki distillery stored umeshu, and Craft Kyoto Yuzu. The gyoza came in three types: ginger, garlic, and boiled, and they all paired perfectly with drinks. The oden was incredibly flavorful—probably the best I've had, and I was surprised by the color of the deep-fried tofu! The yakisoba had a strong taste, which is perfect for those who love to drink. Above all, the warmth and hospitality of the staff made for a truly pleasant dining experience. This place is a must-visit when you come to Kyoto!

Opened in October 2023 in Gion! A restaurant serving gyoza and oden with a tempting aroma of dashi wafting through the air. The open counter in a U-shape creates a lovely atmosphere! I visited as a second stop on my food journey. Here's what I ordered: - Oden (five kinds) 1,200 yen - Famous ginger gyoza 600 yen - Garlic gyoza 600 yen - Boiled gyoza (ginger) 600 yen - Fried chicken 800 yen - Kimchi with cabbage and yam 500 yen - Yakisoba 1,000 yen - Highball 600 yen - Takarazuka craft Kyoto yuzu 800 yen - Takarazuka craft Aotani plum 800 yen Thinking it over, I realized I ate quite a lot for a second stop, which surprised me! Everything was so delicious that I couldn't help but eat more. The gyoza are perfectly sized, not too big, and the ginger gyoza became my favorite, along with the boiled gyoza! The chewy texture was irresistible. The oden has a richer, more robust dashi flavor typical of Kanto style, and I got some exquisite beef tendon dashi poured from a pot brimming with beef tendon. It was delicious! They’re open until 3 AM, so I can see myself returning for a second or third round of gyoza and snacks with a highball, or even as a pre-first stop gathering! It’s great for solo diners or couples, and they even have private rooms for larger groups. I didn’t see it on the menu, but when I asked if I could take some gyoza to go, they kindly agreed, so I ended up taking some home! Follow me @mapollo_gourmet if you enjoy solo dining! I’m showcasing tasty gourmet spots around Kyoto Station, Gojo, and Shijo! Great cost-performance, with meals that feel like a well-deserved treat!

I visited the place on a weekday night for my second stop. They offered both ginger and regular grilled gyoza, so I tried both. I also ordered some oden. Despite it being a weekday evening, the place was quite popular and nearly full. Given the location, the age range of the customers seemed to be primarily in their late 30s to around 60. It’s a gyoza shop with a counter (although there was one table), and the place is only about six months old, so it’s very clean inside. It seems like it would appeal to younger women as well. The gyoza was tasty, but their garlic and ginger flavor was milder, more like gyoza from Gion Hobey. The size and cooking style were similar, but the filling felt a bit coarser. The base flavor was definitely something I liked, so I’d rate it positively. However, the cost-performance ratio wasn’t that great. Overall, it was a nice experience, and the staff was very friendly, which I appreciated. I would definitely consider visiting again if I get the chance!

One piece of oden for 300 yen is definitely a Gion price. The taste is also mediocre, comparable to convenience store food. As for the gyoza, 600 yen??? I'm really surprised. The cost must be less than 1% of that, it seems. I guess in Gion, this price might be understandable. Take care.

I attended a big banquet and visited a dumpling restaurant with private rooms, which was very convenient. The ginger dumplings were recommended by the restaurant, so I tried those. They were light and refreshing, making it easy to eat several. I also enjoyed the oden, which was delicious. Thank you for the meal!

I went to a new dumpling restaurant that opened in Gion, Kyoto. **Gion Ginger Dumplings Suzuchō** is located roughly halfway between Gion Shijo and Sanjo stations. The owner, who has experience running an Italian restaurant, has now ventured into the dumpling business with this new establishment. The entrance features a pink neon sign and is situated in the basement of a building that houses various eateries. The restaurant has a U-shaped counter and is adorned with intricate wooden decorations, along with several table seats. Suzuchō specializes in ginger-based dumplings, offering three types: "Ginger Dumplings," "Garlic Dumplings," and "Boiled Dumplings," all priced at 600 yen for six pieces. They also serve oden, available for 300 yen each. The oden is prepared in the Kanto style, characterized by the use of dark soy sauce. The broth is a careful blend of bonito, kelp, and beef tendon simmered together. We decided to try a recommended assortment of oden. It included classic items like chikuwa, daikon, thick fried tofu, and beef tendon, enough for two people. A highlight of the oden is the "tsukune" (meatball), which comes highly recommended. You can enjoy it with mustard or yuzu pepper for extra flavor. The plump fried tofu is filled with plenty of green onions and ginger, bursting with savory broth flavor when bitten into. The lotus root in the tsukune was well-seasoned, offering a delightful combination of ginger aroma and texture. Next, the dumplings arrived. I ordered a set of six pieces each of the "Ginger Dumplings" and "Garlic Dumplings." **Ginger Dumplings:** These are nicely grilled with a fragrant texture. They have a light ginger flavor that makes them very easy to eat. **Garlic Dumplings:** These have a strong garlic punch and salty seasoning. They were quite addictive, perfect for pairing with drinks. They also have some light snack options. **Potato Salad:** Creamy potatoes seasoned with a touch of black pepper. **Yodare Chicken:** Juicy chicken topped with plenty of green onions and a spicy sauce that whets your appetite. **Boiled Dumplings:** The thin-skinned dumplings have a smooth texture. They are filled with ginger and meat, allowing you to savor the meat's flavor thanks to the thin skin. The dipping sauce complements the ginger flavor beautifully. **Yakisoba (Pork):** A hearty serving of yakisoba packed with pork and cabbage, garnished with green onions and bonito flakes. The noodles are thin and firm, creating a satisfying dish that’s more substantial than it looks. It’s just the right amount for two people to share. I enjoyed the boiled dumplings so much that I ordered another serving to savor. Overall, I was extremely satisfied with the ginger-based dumplings and oden I had during my visit.

This is a great place where you can enjoy waiting for gyoza while being served oden. The water dumplings are also delicious. I ordered yakisoba to finish off the meal, which was spicy and tasty. Given its location in Gion, it’s a nice spot to stop by after drinking. It’s easy to go there alone as well. I’d like to pop in again sometime.

In the calm atmosphere of Gion, entering the restaurant made me feel excited sitting at the nice counter seats. I learned that the staff member I had planned to see wasn’t there, so the person working was incredibly busy handling everything alone. The only other customers were international guests, which made things even more challenging for the staff. Unfortunately, it took a while for the food to arrive, but everything we had was delicious and reasonably priced. The ambiance is great, making it a perfect place to enjoy a leisurely meal and conversation. I would definitely visit again.

The gyoza was delicious, just as they advertise. It's a shame I couldn't try the garlic gyoza since I was worried about tomorrow. As for the oden, since it’s in Gion, I wish they had perfected the Kansai style, but it was more like Kanto style.

The atmosphere of the restaurant is nice, but despite making a reservation for a group, our seats were separated. They should have mentioned this in advance.

I felt that the signature dumplings were a bit undercooked and didn't taste very good to me (just my personal opinion). However, the stew was very delicious.

The dumplings were quite tasty. The restaurant had a different vibe, almost like a snack bar, and didn't really feel much like a dumpling shop. The student part-timers were friendly and welcoming.
