I agree with Mr. Hashimoto! As far as I know, there are four kamaboko shops in Abashiri. Do we really need four kamaboko shops in this local town? Well, as they say, "that's none of your business!" By the way, the other day when I passed by one of the four shops, it looked like it might have closed down, which got me curious. I had never tried their kamaboko before, but I decided to conquer my goal of trying all the shops. It was a bit tricky to find the entrance to this particular shop, but once inside, I was greeted by a friendly man who directed me to the menu. There were quite a few options, and after some hesitation, I ended up getting a variety of kamaboko. The total came to 1,050 yen, which seemed reasonable. I wished they had given me a discount and charged only 1,000 yen since I didn't have any change on me. When I got home, I arranged the kamaboko and took a photo before asking my wife if she wanted to try them. She happily took the scallop kamaboko and enjoyed it. I then heated up the vegetable tempura, cheese, and chorizo kamaboko. The vegetable tempura was sweet and tasty, the cheese kamaboko had a mild flavor, and the chorizo kamaboko had a nice smoky aroma and a hint of spiciness, which I liked the most. The rest of the kamaboko would be perfect for a barbecue. Frying the kamaboko can be tricky as they tend to burn easily. Overall, the kamaboko were quite sweet, which may not be to everyone's liking, but my wife didn't seem to mind.

◆January 2016◆ One of the four fish cake shops in Abashiri. It is located right near Abashiri Mister Donut. The entrance is not in the front, but on the left side of the shop. I have seen their products often at Michi-no-Eki and supermarkets, so I occasionally buy from them, but this was my first visit to their direct sales store. Inside the store, there are many products lined up, so you can choose and purchase your favorites. Especially, the popular "Choten" is lined up a lot. I heard that Choten is like a soul food for the people of Abashiri, and some households even put it in curry. The products are mainly vacuum-packed, and it seems like they don't offer freshly fried products here. [Fish cakes purchased] - Squid tempura, scallop tempura, shrimp tempura - Ginger tempura, cheese tempura, Choten I might have bought too much (laughs). In terms of taste, they are just delicious fish cakes. Among these, I like the ginger tempura and cheese tempura. Needless to say, they go well with shochu. Choten is a bit tastier when slightly fried. I prefer Yoko Yama and Kitami Foods because they offer freshly fried products (they may offer it here too), but this place is relatively reasonable, and the staff are very kind, which left a good impression.

I stayed in Abashiri for one night in October 2022, and the next morning before heading back to Kushiro, I searched on Google to see if there were any souvenirs to buy. I found a kamaboko shop that was open in the morning, so I decided to go there to buy some. When I arrived, I was unsure if it was a shop in front of the factory or if I could actually buy kamaboko there. However, when I opened the door, I saw a showcase where I could purchase kamaboko. They had various flavors available for 180 yen each. I decided to buy all the different flavors. It was a great experience buying kamaboko in a place like this, and just the experience itself made the kamaboko taste delicious. When I got back, I heated them in the toaster and tried each one. They were all delicious! I definitely want to buy them again. If I visit Abashiri again, I will definitely stop by this shop. Thank you for the delicious food.

I came to Abashiri! I visited Oya Kamaboko Store, which I happened to learn about before. I love fish cakes, so I had been curious about this place for a while. The entrance to the shop is not in the front, but from the side. When you enter the shop, it feels like a factory with lots of fish cakes. While looking at the menu, the staff appeared. I bought handmade Choten (2 pieces for 300 yen), Cheese (180 yen), and Shrimp (180 yen). They are not freshly fried, but vacuum-packed. - Choten: A popular item. It was delicious when baked. Crispy on the outside and juicy inside. - Cheese: It has plenty of cheese and the fish cake is juicy without being too rich. - Shrimp: This was delicious. The shrimp had a fragrant and flavorful taste. It's thick, so it's satisfying to eat. Fish cakes from this shop are tasty and juicy. Since they are vacuum-packed, they make a good souvenir. It seems like there are other fish cake shops in Abashiri, so I should check them out too. I'll definitely go again. Thank you for the meal!

I searched for a kamaboko shop that I had never been to before and ended up at what seemed to be a factory. There were two entrances, so I wasn't sure which one to go to, but I peeked inside. I must have looked suspicious wandering around. The lights were on, but I wasn't sure if they were open for business. Eventually, someone came out from inside and greeted me. Luckily, they were open for business. It didn't look like a regular store, but they had a price list, so it seemed like they also sold retail. They said they didn't serve freshly fried kamaboko. I bought 5 pieces of ginger tempura for 400 yen, as well as scallop, squid, shrimp, and cheese for 180 yen each. Later, I noticed they had monkfish liver, which seemed rare, and I regretted not buying it. I planned to eat the vacuum-packed kamaboko later, but I unexpectedly found freshly fried kamaboko at an event in Abashiri City. It was only 20 yen more expensive than the vacuum-packed ones, which was very reasonable. I also bought some chorizo (spicy sausage) and cheese, and I really enjoyed the kamaboko here because I prefer the unsweetened kind. Thank you for the delicious food.
