I used to stroll around the Nihonbashi Honmachi area trying out various foods, but I haven't done so in a while. In the past, there were many charming shops hidden in the backstreets, but with the ongoing redevelopment in the Nihonbashi area, the alleys around Honmachi have become quite desolate. While walking through one of these alleys, I discovered a new restaurant. It used to be a Chinese restaurant, but it seems that it has changed ownership. When I checked the store information, I found out that it opened on October 2, 2023. It's a recent opening. On this day, I was coming back from work in the afternoon, so I decided to visit for lunch another day.
When I checked the lunch menu outside, the fried rice was priced at 900 yen, and the other items were all 1,000 yen, with a total of six menu options. Upon entering, I found the restaurant had a stylish atmosphere. I sat at an available table and ordered the tantanmen (spicy sesame noodle soup). After a while, my order was brought out on a tray. Along with the tantanmen, there was half a serving of fried rice and an almond jelly for dessert. The toppings for the tantanmen were coarsely ground meat, greens, and scallions—simple ingredients. The soup had a soy sauce base instead of sesame, and the noodles were curled Chinese noodles.
When I tasted it, I found it to be light thanks to the soy sauce base. Although there was a bit of chili oil used, it was in small amounts, so it wasn’t spicy. It wasn’t bad, but both in appearance and taste, it felt very simple. The half-fried rice had finely chopped carrots and eggs, making it another straightforward dish. The flavor was good, and the texture was just right, but somehow it felt lacking in something.
The almond jelly was homemade, boasting a rich taste, but it was a bit watery. It had goji berries as a topping. Overall, while the flavors were good, the dishes were very basic. Along with the restaurant's clean interior, it felt like refined Chinese cuisine. Personally, I felt that paying 1,000 yen for this meal was a bit pricey, reflecting the Nihonbashi pricing. On the other hand, perhaps it suited the location. Wishing them the best for the future. Thank you for the meal!
