I visited an izakaya located in Karasuma Oike for lunch. I ordered the lunch menu tantanmen rice set for 950 yen. It features chicken-based creamy broth, Kyoto-grown Kujo green onions, and Saikyo miso. The tantanmen has a smooth and rich soup, which is a unique style not commonly found elsewhere. It's great to have a rice set for under 1000 yen.

Even though it's in Kyoto, the sashimi was delicious, and every item on the menu was tasty! The inexperienced staff member did their best and provided attentive service, and there were no faults at all! The restaurant was clean, with a wide variety of drinks, and the menu had so many options that I was spoiled for choice!

I parked my car at a nearby coin parking lot and arrived around 11:30. I had heard that they recently started serving lunch from 11:30 to 13:00, so I decided to check it out. I sat at the counter and looked at the menu. It seemed that during lunch hours, the options were limited to the "Tantanmen" noodle dish as a single item or set menus, so I opted for the "Tantanmen" by itself for 850 yen. The bowl was topped with chicken chashu, chopped green onions, and minced chicken, and the broth was white and frothy. The soup had a rich and creamy base made from chicken bone broth, using Saikyo miso, which gave it a deep, mellow flavor that paired well with the sesame. The noodles were straight, thin, with a chewy texture that complemented the broth nicely. The chashu was made from thick slices of chicken breast, which was moist and tender, with a savory flavor that permeated from within. The broth itself wasn’t spicy, but there was a container of chili oil placed on the side, which I added to enhance the aroma of sesame oil and add a kick of heat, allowing for a different enjoyment of the dish. While I had the "Tantanmen" as a single item this time, I could tell that the soup would pair well with rice, so I think the set menu with rice would also be a great choice.

A new standing and seated counter-style izakaya has opened near Shin-Pukan in Karasuma Oike, Kyoto. They offer a wide range of creative menu items, including meat dishes, seafood, fried foods, and unique dishes, as well as options for finishing meals. The ability to enjoy drinks starting from 3 PM is also an appealing feature. Here’s what I ordered: - Mild Dan Dan Noodles (850 yen) - 075 Chicken Chashu (680 yen) - Octopus with Lots of Green Onion (680 yen) The Dan Dan Noodles, which I initially planned to have as my finale, are based on Kyoto's white miso and come in a substantial portion. You can choose between mild or spicy. This dish will also be available for lunch starting August 19, making it a generous portion for a lunch option.

To be frank, this is a disappointing restaurant. I tried the chicken nanban, but the ingredients were really poor quality. The chicken tasted like cheap broiler meat, and the rice seemed like it was bought on discount. The miso soup also had a taste that suggested it was from a discount store. Customers are paying attention to these details. I won’t be coming back again.

I saw a notice from the restaurant that they would start serving lunch from August 19, 2024, so I went to try it the next day. The restaurant operates with just one staff member, so depending on the number of customers, there might be a wait. I waited about 15 minutes as there were 4 customers ahead of me. ### Menu - Tartare Chicken Nanban Set: 900 yen - Dandan Noodles (single order): 850 yen - Rice: +100 yen ### Order I ordered the Dandan Noodles (single order) for 850 yen. ### Impression It didn't taste quite as good as I remembered from my previous visit, and I wondered why. The chicken seemed to have been poorly processed and had a strong raw chicken smell. However, since there was plenty of chili oil available, I used that to mask the flavor, and it became easier to eat. The soup was still delicious as it had been before, so that was a relief.

I found a stylish izakaya just near Karasuma Oike. I happened to walk by in the early afternoon and decided to go in. It seems they didn't have a lunch set menu available yet, but they were able to prepare a set with chicken nanban, salad, and white rice on the spot. The chicken nanban was perfectly crispy, and it went really well with the rice. The tartar sauce was loaded with chopped vegetables, making it feel almost like eating a salad, and it was delicious. The prices were reasonable, and the service was very attentive, leaving me extremely satisfied. Although the interior only has counter seating, the space is bright and has a light wood decor, making it a great place to relax.

I think everything was delicious. The 075 potato salad, 075 grilled salt chicken hokkebi, fried chicken, cream cheese with miso, and tai shiso tempura were all tasty. I spent a long time there from 6 PM on a weekday, and the place was full. I heard they open from 3 PM, so I'm glad to know I can enjoy drinks after finishing work early. I'm excited to have found such a wonderful restaurant!

The izakaya "Nakaya," located in Nishin, opened in April 2024. I visited for the first time on April 17th. The place offers both standing and seated drinking options; the entrance area is for standing, while the back has seated spaces with six reservations available. The people next to me had reserved seats. Since I was alone, I intended to sit in the standing area, but the staff kindly invited me to the seated area, which made me happy. The chairs are incredibly comfortable, without sharp corners—definitely a plus! There’s also a handy bag rack near the chairs. The texture of their shop cards is really pleasant too. ### Menu Food prices start from 400 yen. They offer a variety of items including sashimi, grilled dishes, fried foods, simmered dishes, salads, dan dan noodles, and desserts. ### What I Ordered and Had The appetizer (tsukidashi) varies for each customer and seems to differ depending on the number of people; for instance, two types are served for two people. My appetizer was broccoli namul, which had a nice softness—not bad at all. 1. **Potato Salad (450 yen)**: This had deliciously mixed onions, and underneath were crunchy broccoli pieces with plenty of bacon. 2. **Okan's Fried Chicken (580 yen)**: Four pieces were served on a plate, with seasoning on the plate and ponzu in a separate dish, allowing for two different flavor experiences. The chicken was crispy on the outside and juicy inside, perfectly fried! 3. **Dan Dan Noodles (800 yen)**: I could choose between spicy and mild flavor. I expected a small serving since it's an izakaya, but was surprised by the substantial portion. The flavor was just right for me, and I learned they plan to start lunch soon, so I hope this will be on the menu then. 4. **Umeshu (Plum Wine) (550 yen)**: It was my first time ordering it with water on the rocks, but I think I prefer it straight. The staff mentioned they could add more if it was too weak, but I didn't know how to judge it, so I just drank it as it was. I've heard the desserts are also recommended, but I was too full from the dan dan noodles to try any. The grilled dried yellowtail collar that the person next to me had looked big and meaty, so I definitely want to try that next time. Overall, I'm looking forward to returning and think this place is perfect for regular visits!

I recently came across a new restaurant and, noticing it was open, decided to go in. The last time I saw it, there were customers standing and drinking, so I couldn't see inside, but it turns out there are counter seats available! I was guided to the counter seat by the staff. I ordered a highball and the first dish was deep-fried eggplant in a soaking sauce. The atmosphere was lovely, reminiscent of a wine bar, and I was delighted to find they serve Japanese food too. I ordered smoked octopus with lots of green onions as my main dish. The octopus was really loaded with scallions, making it a great side dish. Beer, highballs, white wine, and sake would all pair well with it. Since I ordered smoked dishes, I switched to white wine. At ¥580, this is quite reasonable for the Karasuma Oike area, so I appreciated it. I enjoyed a lemon sour drink while listening to nostalgic music playing in the background. Since they were out of rice, I pondered having some bread. Thankfully, since it was not crowded, they offered me one piece each of two types of baguettes on one plate just for today, allowing me to try both. Thank you! I decided to enjoy these as dessert and ordered a glass of red wine to finish my meal. It seems to be a new branch of a restaurant in Nishin, as the people around me appeared to know about it. They seemed like regulars? However, it was easy to enter solo, and the fact they open at 3 PM is a major plus. I’m glad I decided to drop by. Thank you very much!

All the dishes were delicious, and the sashimi of mackerel and horse mackerel was thick and served in generous portions. If you tell the master your preferences, he will recommend several types of sake. I wanted to try the dandan noodles, but I was already full by that point. I think it's also a great place for solo dining.

There are a wide variety of alcoholic beverages, and since I can't drink much, I want to go back again. The sashimi made from freshly caught amberjack and octopus, as well as the squid tempura, were delicious. The homemade ginger ale was also very tasty.
