I heard that you can enjoy authentic coffee and lunch in the former vault of the registered tangible cultural property, Shibukawa Building, so I went to Mall & Hosoi Coffees. The voluminous Croque Madame and seasonal coffee set lunch including Avocado Bacon Egg Sandwich start from 990 yen. The shop is located just a few minutes' walk from Yodoyabashi Station. The Shibukawa Building, built in 1927, has a solid and imposing exterior, with a characteristic design inspired by the ancient civilizations of South America, the Maya and Inca. Inside the building, you can feel a cool and unique atmosphere. The decorations such as the handrails of the stairs are also unique and give a sense of exoticism reminiscent of the Inca and Maya cultures. The shop is located on the basement floor, down the stairs. As it used to be a former underground vault, the thick metal door catches your eye. The interior of the shop has a cave-like atmosphere. The curved walls and shelves that follow them perfectly, the stylish and unique decorations, and the sense of exoticism of the Inca and Maya cultures can be felt in the interior. The shop has only a counter with 9 seats, giving it a bar-like appearance. The high stools are comfortable to sit on, and the cool and hard stone counter adds to the atmosphere. The various cups, glasses, and coffee gadgets waiting to be used, illuminated by the soft ball lamps, along with the stylish art pieces, create a serene atmosphere. The record plays quietly, creating a moist and high-quality adult secret base. Lunch is served from around 11:30 on weekdays and 12:00 on weekends, with last orders at 14:00 (closed on Mondays). Please check the shop's Instagram for the current operating status and hours (please confirm the latest information from the shop). NEW Croque Madame Lunch 990 yen (Comes with salad, seasonal coffee or orange juice) Wow, it looks so luxurious! The shiny orange fried egg on top of the crispy cheese Croque Madame. The salad comes with carrot rapé and pickles. NEW Croque Madame A Croque Monsieur sandwich filled with ham, cheese, and bechamel sauce, topped with cheese and baked to create a Croque Madame. There is a big piece with a fried egg on top, and a half-size Croque Monsieur on the side, so it's practically 1.5 slices, a happy amount! When you cut into the crispy bread, you'll find roast ham, homemade? bechamel sauce, and rich cheese melting inside. The cheese on the surface is also crispy and fragrant, and when you break the dark yellow yolk of the fried egg, it flows out perfectly delicious! The rye bread is crispy and fragrant, with the saltiness of the ham and cheese, and the richness of the egg yolk creating a perfect taste! The cheese, which has a good flavor, is it Gruyère? According to the female staff, there are three types of cheese, and various ingredients are also added to the bechamel sauce. If that's all, it might seem too heavy, but the basil sauce with a refreshing aroma and the peppery flavor that bursts give a mature finish. The basil sauce has a refreshing aroma, and the pink pepper adds a spicy flavor. There is also the scent of cumin and caraway seeds. It's a sophisticated Croque Madame with a deep flavor, and even though it's a huge portion, I couldn't get enough of it. The half Croque Monsieur without the fried egg has a gentle sweetness from honey. The mild bechamel, the fragrant cheese and ham, and the sweetness of the honey make an irresistible combination of sweet and salty! The black pepper and fried onions are good accents. The carrot rapé with a hint of mustard and the tangy cornichon (small cucumber pickles) are a nice palate cleanser. The dressing for the salad is also homemade, I wonder? The sophisticated and refreshing basil sauce, the pickled carrot rapé, and the tangy cornichon make for a perfect combination.
