Chicken Tempura Rice Bowl Set - Hot - 920 yen Today's lunch was at Waraian restaurant. The lunch set menu comes with a small portion of soba noodles. The thick country-style soba noodles were delicious. The chicken tempura was also tasty with a sweet and savory sauce and three tender pieces of chicken. The portion size was just right.

The Tori Tendon Set for 950 yen, with a 100 yen option for extra soba noodles, at Izumi Shokudo in Monbetsu offers the taste of Asahikawa. The udon-like thick rural soba noodles are irresistible for those who love them. While the rice bowl dishes are delicious, I still want to eat a lot of soba noodles, so next time I want to try the extra large soba noodles on their own.

I used it for lunch on a regular day. I visited around 1:30 pm, past the lunch peak, so I was able to enjoy my meal leisurely with only 2 customers before me and 1 customer after me. The menu seems relatively extensive, and lunch menu is available until 2:30 pm. They had a set menu of soba and curry. I like curry from soba shops, so I ordered the "Curry Set" (770 yen including tax) which includes a mini curry and a small portion of soba. I chose cold soba. The soba noodles were thick and curly, which was a unique texture. The slightly firm texture of the soba allowed me to fully taste its flavor as I chewed. The dipping sauce was a bit sweet and complemented the soba well. The curry was hearty and had a Japanese-style broth flavor. It contained a good amount of pork and was quite delicious. Despite being a mini curry, the portion was decent. The soba water served was light. The set was just the right amount for lunch. Let's do our best for the afternoon work!

When it comes to Christmas, it's all about soba noodles! Balancing breakfast and dinner, lunch has become a light meal. Tonight, I had a Christmas feast for the second day in a row. Breakfast turned into brunch as I couldn't eat right away. So, the restaurant I had planned to visit but didn't, Ryoan, came to mind. I couldn't find a suitable place nearby, so I opted for a restaurant that was open all day. I decided to go for the shrimp tempura soba to add some excitement to the meal. After a short wait, two piping hot shrimp tempura arrived. They were plump and delicious. The soba noodles were twisted and rustic, but they were just right when served warm. The thickness of the noodles provided a satisfying chewiness, similar to fettuccine in fresh pasta. It reminded me of the inspired twist on flat thick noodles from Izumi Shokudo, a famous restaurant in Hidakamonbetsu. The soba noodles were more rustic than before, but I no longer have an aversion to them (as long as they're warm), and I enjoyed them. Tonight, I will have another feast at home.

Last time, my first impression was... a unique soba that seemed like it would be good with something warm... After that, I came across a picture of delicious curry soba in a review by "Miporun"! I thought, "Ah, that soba would probably go well with curry." My imagination quickly matched them up, and I thought I should go there soon, but... I finally went there after all (laughs). It's a popular restaurant that gets quite crowded at lunchtime. The curry soba costs 880 yen. Do you want to use the paper apron? It's a nice touch, I appreciate it! I'm confident that I'll make a mess, so I'll use it! The curry broth is quite thick and flavorful. The taste... yeah, it's delicious. It has a homely flavor as a base, slightly spicy with a rich taste, and the soba noodles are well coated. As I started eating, I immediately thought, "Rice would be good with this." The combination of this flavor and the thickness... it's like it's already turned into a "curry soba rice" menu item (laughs). Towards the end, when the curry broth is clearly left, I end up saying, "Excuse me, can I have some rice?" It's already quite filling, but the desire to add rice wins (laughs). This almost curry rice-like curry soba was delicious. I'll definitely do it again!

Here, the reviews seem to be quite divided, but I don't mind thick country-style soba, and I do notice when the soba is curly. So this time, I really wanted to try the Curry Nanban mode! I went to a place called Waraian that seemed to be known for its warm soba based on reviews. I ordered Curry Nanban and topped the Toriten (chicken tempura) with donburi sauce. I wanted to try the mini Toriten donburi, but since my partner wasn't with me, I was worried I wouldn't be able to finish it and it would be disrespectful to the restaurant staff. They gave me a paper apron for the Curry Nanban, which was a nice touch! This kind of thoughtfulness really builds up expectations. The Curry Nanban looked great with its thick and curly soba, and the broth was pleasantly thick. I took a sip... oh, delicious! The spicy and thick broth coated the thick, curly soba perfectly. This broth might be my favorite among all the Curry Nanban I've tried so far! The Toriten was tender and tasty. But I did feel like I wanted more rice with the donburi sauce... The sauce was more salty than sweet. Even if you're not a fan of the soba here, I highly recommend trying the Curry Nanban! It might not be the typical choice for cold soba, but the Curry Nanban here was really delicious! If I ever crave Curry Nanban again, I'll definitely come back here. Delicious Curry Nanban, Toriten, thank you for the meal!

The parking lot gives off a somewhat intimidating vibe, with heavy traffic making it hard to enter without hesitation. The restaurant seems to have a unique soba menu, which may have caused delays in visiting. I decided to try the lunch menu, opting for the Tempura Set and Cold Soba. The soba noodles were thick and had a distinct hand-cut appearance, with a gentle flavor and slight sweetness. The Tempura was large and juicy, but could use a bit more effort in draining excess oil. Overall, the meal was enjoyable, and I learned that next time, I should request extra sauce for the Tempura.

Last time I had forest soba, so this time I tried curry soba. The thick noodles are as good as ever, and the curry coats them nicely. It's also nice that they provide aprons. The rice bowls look delicious too. I might come back next time for a set meal.

It was a day off, so I visited with my wife. We had high expectations for the countryside soba. First, we ordered the Mori (plain) soba in a large portion. My wife had the hot soba (I didn't see it). It took a bit of time to arrive, but when it did, I was surprised. The noodles were thicker than I had imagined. And they seemed to be twisted in some way? I tried the noodles as they were. Wow. The noodles were firm, making it a bit tiring to eat... But they had a nice flavor and were delicious. The broth was slightly sweet and light. I also tried my wife's broth, which seemed delicious as well. As mentioned in other reviews, I'm curious about their curry soba too. I'll definitely come back soon to try it. By the way, even on weekdays, the place was quickly filled up at lunchtime, with 2-3 groups leaving right after me.

Even though we say "inaka soba" (countryside soba), it would be more accurate to call it Hokkaido-style inaka soba, like the famous Izumi Shokudo in the Hidaka region. I had always been curious about this place, located on a main road in Asahikawa City. At lunchtime, I drove there alone and parked my car in front of the restaurant. The small interior, with well-placed table counters, is simple and clean. Despite its size, there are quite a few staff members. I observed the staff while looking through the menu. I ended up ordering my usual large serving. The soba came in a large portion, which surprised me. It was thicker and heartier than I expected. The large serving was a good deal, and the generous portion made me wonder if I really needed it. The soba was quite chewy, and I struggled to finish it all. The dipping sauce was on the spicier side, so I diluted it with some soba broth towards the end. It was a satisfying meal, although I felt quite full afterwards. The total bill was 760 yen, which was a great deal.

The noodles are thick and have a satisfying chewy texture. However, the broth is too strong with soy sauce, which is disappointing.

The noodles were too hard and the broth was too salty, honestly disappointing. But if you lower your expectations, it might be just delicious as usual?

I stopped by for lunch. I ordered a tempura bowl set with extra noodles, while my companion ordered the lunch inari set. The noodles were quite thick, about the size of chopsticks, and had a substantial volume. They were slightly chewy, with a bit of a firm texture. The tempura ingredients included large shrimp, bell pepper, squid, and eggplant. It was a bit oily, but considering the price, it was quite filling. Thank you for the meal.

I didn't plan to come back, but my friend said, "Is there really such a hard soba?" so we revisited together. I had the pork seiro and mountain vegetable rice, while my friend had the curry set. For some reason, the soba wasn't as tough as last time, but it seemed to be beyond the realm of being 100% soba or local soba. My friend said it was acceptable at this level.笑

The companion had visited once before and said it was delicious, so we decided to go. I ordered the mountain kake soba with a raw egg topping, while my companion ordered the tempura soba with grated yam topping. However, when the dishes arrived, they were not served in a soba bowl but in a regular bowl. My mountain kake soba was missing the raw egg, so I asked the staff for it. And my companion's tempura soba was missing the grated yam. Overall, the noodles were thick and chewy like Sapporo ramen noodles, which I didn't enjoy. The grated yam was just regular nagaimo. The soba broth was decent, but I don't think I'll be coming back. This place might be a hit or miss depending on personal preference.

"I visited Shoujo-an in Asahikawa, but I arrived quite late and missed the lunch hours. I decided to explore other restaurants listed in my notes. Since I had a big meal last night, I opted for soba noodles for lunch. It was challenging to choose a restaurant as I ended up at a highly-rated one. The exterior and interior of the restaurant were clean and pleasant. The background music consisted of TV noise and laughter from the staff. I sat at a two-person table near the counter. The staff was quite attentive, and the restaurant seemed to get busy. The smell was not to my liking. I ordered the 'mori' soba for 650 yen. The presentation was not impressive, with uneven and thick noodles. The broth was on the salty side, and the wasabi was not shaped properly. Despite the initial disappointment, the soba noodles had a good flavor and texture. The noodles were thick but smooth, making it easy to slurp. The draining of water was good, although it might become noticeable towards the bottom. The broth was slightly sweet and weak. The soba water was served alongside, and it was well-prepared. It was a satisfying meal, but the broth could have been improved. Overall, the soba was delicious, affordable, and served in generous portions. My jaw got tired from all the chewing. The service was good, although I was disappointed with the lackluster response when I complimented the food. In conclusion, it was a good meal, but there is room for improvement in some areas."

On my way back from a business trip to Kitami, I had lunch at a place in Asahikawa and tried the "Inari Set (Mori Soba) for 880 yen". I arrived at the place at noon, so it became my lunch. This time, I ordered the limited 10 servings per day "Inari Set" with mori soba. The soba here is said to be country-style soba. The first impression of this soba was its twisted shape. I've never had soba in this shape before. I took a bite. Wow, it's chewy like udon! But the taste is definitely soba. It seems like this is the type of soba that you should chew well to savor, rather than just enjoying the smoothness. The broth had a slightly sweet taste. I felt like the broth didn't quite match the unique texture of the soba. I tried drinking it with the white, cloudy soba water, but I'm not sure about that... The inari sushi and daily side dishes were delicious as usual. When I arrived a little before 12 o'clock, there was only one customer, but before I knew it, the restaurant was full. It seems to be quite a popular place. Next time, I would like to try the hot soba.
