In 2008, the famous yakiniku restaurant "Yakiniku Inoue" opened its first location. Now, they are introducing a new concept. While some may have expected an upscale store in Ginza with a total renovation cost of 100 million yen, they also launched a hormone (offal) restaurant that can double as an izakaya. On a weekday before 7 PM, I visited the place with two former colleagues to celebrate one of their new jobs. We reserved a course with all-you-can-drink for 5,000 yen on Tabelog.
After a 3 to 4-minute walk from Shinjuku Station, passing by the large guard and heading north on the Ootakibashi street towards Okubo, we turned into a five-way intersection where Fukushin is located. The stylish building caught our eye with diners enjoying meals on the terrace. We took the elevator to the third floor and announced our reservation at the front desk, where we were seated at a table next to the terrace. The interior was bright and clean. The table was fully prepared with plates and paper aprons, ready for us. Since the course did not require any ordering, we just asked for drinks to start! It was great to find that the all-you-can-drink option included Hoppi as well. One of my colleagues, who doesn't drink much, enjoyed the outer part of the Hoppi as a soft drink.
By the way, there were several types of paper aprons, all designed in fun visuals. I ended up with one that looked like Godzilla. The course menu listed online includes the following: signature natto yukke, kimchi platter, appetizer salad, daily meat sashimi, assorted beef (three kinds), assorted pork and chicken (three kinds), and shijimi (clam) tea rice to help prevent hangovers. Everything was delicious, but the signature natto yukke was exceptionally impactful. It's wrapped in seaweed, and the harmony of natto and yukke just makes you want to drink more beer—absolutely wonderful. Additionally, the kimchi platter, featuring napa cabbage, nagaimo, and cream cheese, was unique and a great conversation starter.
Since it had been a while since seeing each other, we couldn't stop talking, so I can't quite remember the specifics of the dishes, but I believe that was thanks to the unobtrusive service from the staff and the delightfully tasty food that kept the atmosphere lively. It was perfect for a casual gathering with friends. As we enjoyed ourselves, we even forgot to take photos in the latter half of the meal. Feeling a bit unsatisfied, we decided to order a few additional grilled items to finish off.
Overall, the portions weren't enough to fully satiate a growing boy, so I think it's wise for those with hearty appetites to order a la carte or finish off at a nearby famous ramen shop. When we settled the bill at the table and were about to leave, the restaurant surprised us with a handwritten note and a little gift of candies. I'm particularly weak to things like that. The staff was all lively and friendly, which made me think that’s why this place is so popular. It’s really a great restaurant for when you want to meet up with friends and chat in Shinjuku. Highly recommended!
