I came to Juso for drinks with a longtime junior colleague. We went to Warayaki Shin, a restaurant famous for its warayaki dishes. Right when you enter the restaurant, there’s a counter seating area for standing drinks only. In the back, there are several tables that can accommodate 2 to 4 people, complete with chairs for a more relaxed drinking experience. It seemed like a popular spot, as the standing area was constantly filled with customers coming and going, both men and women. As for the food, they offer various ingredients cooked using the warayaki technique, but we obviously had to order the raw bonito (katsu). Normally, it comes with 5 slices, but since there were two of us, the chef kindly added an extra slice to make it 6, so we wouldn’t fight over it. That was really nice of him. The taste was fantastic; the rich flavor of the raw bonito combined beautifully with the aroma of the straw, making it incredibly delicious. Just a few days ago, I had warayaki bonito at a different chain restaurant, but this place's bonito was overwhelmingly better. Fresh bonito really makes a difference. In addition to the warayaki, there were many tempting snacks perfect for drink lovers, and each one was made with care and was delicious. Plus, they were reasonably priced. Feeling great, we left the restaurant. Thank you for the meal!

On my second stop in my wandering trip around Juso, I was taken to a restaurant called “Warayaki-dokoro Shin” by a friend, known for its incredibly delicious smoked bonito (katsu). The eye-catching red lantern at the front of the shop drew me in. Inside, there is a standing drinking area at the front and tables at the back. With an open kitchen, you can enjoy watching the bonito, toro (fatty tuna), and Awa-ō Chicken being prepared right in front of you, which adds to the fun. I had high expectations and ordered the following items (★ marks my personal favorites): ★ Shin’s Potato Salad ¥430 Spicy Cod Roe Warayaki ¥380 Smoked Chicken Thigh with Ponzu ¥380 ★ Smoked Bonito ¥1,280 ★ Smoked Awa-ō Chicken ¥980 Daily Fried Vegetables in Seaweed Batter ¥380 Each dish was substantial for the price, and I was thoroughly satisfied with the cost-performance ratio, taste, and atmosphere of the restaurant! The minced daikon and garlic served with the smoked bonito were excellent as well! Only garlic from Aomori Prefecture would provide the right spiciness and freshness… it was delicious!! Most notably, the thickness of the bonito was extraordinary. It was an amazing restaurant. Thank you for the meal!

We found an izakaya in Shijō that has a bright atmosphere and a wide age range among the guests. We started off with a toast and a beer! The beer served in these thin glasses was delicious!!! The bonito was also large, and everyone was very satisfied! It seems like a great place for large groups, so I would love to visit again!

This restaurant is about a 5-minute walk from Juusan Station. You can enjoy standing drinks, but this time we chose to sit at a table in the back. First, we ordered the signature dish, grilled bonito with straw. When paired with garlic and myoga, it was delicious. Feeling good, we also ordered a platter of five types of sushi, and indeed, everything was tasty. They served Premium Malt's beer, and there was a variety of sake available, making it a great place to enjoy both a quiet drink at the counter or a lively time while standing. I did notice that the staff were a bit busy, but that was not a significant issue. Overall, it was a satisfying experience.

The grilled dishes were all delicious! Both the bonito and chicken were cooked just right, and I was very happy with the flavors. The smoked gakku (daikon) was especially delicious! Since the total cost, including food and drinks, was around 3,500 yen, it was also very reasonable. I definitely want to go back again!

It's a specialty restaurant for bonito tataki, so naturally I ordered the signature dish, the raw bonito tataki. It comes with three thickly sliced pieces for 690 yen. I enjoyed it with salt. The condiments included plenty of onion, garlic, ginger, myoga, and daikon sprouts, which was a nice touch. Upon tasting it, I thought, hmm, it's not as great as I expected. Bonito tataki can be quite tricky to get right. I'm not sure what it is, but something just didn’t click. Anyway, I decided to have a cold draft beer. The restaurant was quite popular and fully packed, creating a vibrant atmosphere. They also had various other fish sashimi options on the menu.

I visited "Warayaki-dokoro Shin," which is located at the east exit of Sh十三 Station. There are a few table seats in the back of the restaurant, but I recommend making a reservation because it fills up quickly! The drink menu was quite extensive. And the highlight of the place is definitely the straw-grilled fresh bonito! Many people come just for this dish. We ordered 20 slices for four people. The Awa-cho chicken is also highly recommended! If you're in a small group, sitting at the counter allows you to enjoy the live experience of the grilling. I definitely want to come back to this restaurant. Thank you for the meal!

This is my second visit. We toasted with beer while enjoying grilled bonito, a sashimi platter, and potato salad. This is the place where I first fell in love with grilled bonito! The fresh bonito has no unpleasant smell, is thick, and is incredibly satisfying to eat! I recommend enjoying it with salt. Thank you for the delicious meal! ❤️❤️

After having a light snack of skewered cutlets, I visited this place for the second stop. I walked in with the memory of the exquisite grilled tataki I had in Kochi. The area near the entrance is a standing bar, while the back has table seating for a more relaxed experience. With high hopes, I ordered the signature dishes, and while they were good, they didn't quite meet my expectations. Personally, I felt there was a lack of the straw aroma that I was looking for. However, the firefly squid with vinegar miso was great. If I get the chance, I would like to try it again.

This was my first visit. Despite not being able to find anything delicious in Nakanu, I discovered this place! It was fantastic! The tataki was still warm, perfectly infused with the aroma of the straw-grilling—so tasty! The other dishes were also very carefully prepared and delicious. The chef and staff provided excellent service, making my time there really enjoyable. I had another appointment and couldn’t stay long this time, but I will definitely come back again!

I wanted to eat grilled bonito, so I went to the restaurant on Friday night! The bonito was fresh, with no odor at all, and it was thick and incredibly delicious! It paired perfectly with beer, and I couldn't stop drinking ꉂꉂ(¯ᗜ¯艸). Personally, I enjoyed it the most with salt and garlic chips! The food was served quickly, and the atmosphere was very pleasant!

I craved Katsuo no Tataki and was looking for a restaurant when I found one that serves not only katsuo but also chicken cooked with straw. It was a quaint little place with a counter and a couple of tables in the back. The straw grilling was impressive! The freshly grilled salt tataki was outstanding! I also tried the chicken and sawara, all grilled with straw, and everything was delicious. I don’t usually go out for drinks in Juusou, but I’m definitely planning to come back!

A seafood drinking spot close to Shinjuku Station. Unfortunately, they were out of bonito, so I couldn't try their signature dish, the bonito tataki. The tempura of sweetfish was delicious, and I also enjoyed the sashimi platter, which included rare grilled firefly squid and seasonal boiled broccoli. They had a great selection of daily sake, and as I was leaving, they generously offered me a glass of a rare sake.

I visited Warayaki-dokoro Shin, and just the name sounds delicious! I wanted to eat bonito! Oh, and they also have my favorite Awaodori chicken! Their selection is fantastic☆ The variety of dishes is abundant, and everything I tried was a hit, making the drinks flow smoothly. I’ll definitely come back again♪

I randomly dropped by this restaurant, which has a standing bar vibe, but there are also table seats in the back for those who want to enjoy their time at a more relaxed pace. It’s a place that’s easy to enter for couples or groups of girls. I had two cups of sake along with some fresh bonito, Awa Odori chicken grilled over straw, and tempura. Both the bonito and the chicken were substantial and filling. They paired perfectly with hot sake on a cold day. Thank you for the meal!

The main offerings are grilled dishes and seafood accompaniments, and other traditional Japanese dishes like ohitashi (blanched vegetables) and tempura were delicious as well. During this season, you can enjoy various preparations of the prized cod roe, such as shabu-shabu, salt-grilled, or with ponzu sauce. The chef also offers a selection of freshly made sushi, which was very satisfying✨ The chef enjoys fishing, and he prepares the fish he catches himself. I was able to enjoy delicious food and sake while sitting in a prime seat, watching the Japanese Series✨

On September 29, 2023, our second stop, just a three-minute walk from "Dashi-dokoro Yamada-ya," was "Warayaki-dokoro Shin." As it turns out, this place is part of the same restaurant group—what a surprise! The concept here is "warayaki" (straw-grilled), and I was immediately captivated by the flames as soon as I entered the restaurant. For our toast, I enjoyed a healthy Red Eye, made with Premium Malt’s beer, which added a rich flavor that was delightful. After having some appetizers, we ordered the signature "Shin's Potato Salad." The texture of the fluffy potatoes was excellent and delicious. Next, we tried the signature "warayaki" dishes: "Awaodori Chicken" and "Fresh Bonito." Both dishes were wonderfully complemented by the aromatic flavor of the warayaki cooking, making them incredibly tasty—truly GOOD! We also had the "Exquisite Tamagoyaki," which not only looked fantastic but also tasted amazing! We enjoyed the "Bacon Warayaki with Cheese" as well. This dish featured thick-cut bacon that was grilled to perfection, making it incredibly delicious, especially with the added cheese—definitely a winner! To finish things off, we took the manager's recommendation of the "Assorted Nigiri 5 pieces," priced at just 1,280 yen. I was blown away by the quality for such a price! You might wonder why a grilled specialty restaurant would serve sushi, but it was genuinely delicious! The nigiri included Umeyiro from Kagoshima, fresh Honmaguro from Kushimoto, Hirame from Ehime, Sayori from Ishikawa, and Nakaochi, reflecting serious sushi-making skills! The "Honmaguro from Kushimoto" was particularly outstanding! Thank you so much for a fantastic experience from start to finish! I’m truly grateful! Now, onto the next adventure!!!

It's a store located just a short walk from Shisan Station. When I entered the shop, the owner was actually roasting straw. The dishes had a wonderfully fragrant aroma and were exceptionally delicious. I also tried the sushi recommended by the chef, and it was fantastic. Thank you for the meal!
