Located in Higashi-ku, Sapporo, Hokkaido, at 5-19-1 Kita 8-jo Higashi, Yakiniku Tokusu is a spacious restaurant along Kita 8-jo Street. It shares the same premises as Seven Eleven and the revolving sushi restaurant Triton, with ample parking available. Tokusu is a chain of yakiniku restaurants in Sapporo. I visited during lunchtime on a weekday at 12 pm. As soon as I entered, the staff greeted me and promptly showed me to a table. Despite dining alone, they seated me at a spacious round table for four. Many salarymen and housewives were enjoying yakiniku for lunch. The interior seemed to have been renovated, as it was very clean and provided a comfortable dining space. I ordered the following:
- Wagyu seared kalbi set (90g) for 1,133 yen
- Extra meat +30g for 253 yen
The lunch menu and grand menu were placed on the table, featuring appetizing photos. The regular portion was 90g, and the photo showed the large portion with an additional 30g, totaling 120g. I opted for the larger portion without hesitation. The thinly sliced Wagyu kalbi consisted of 8 pieces, served with cabbage underneath. The set also included rice, soup, salad, kimchi, and namul. Rice options included extra-large, large, medium, and small. The soup was a light seaweed soup with a salty broth. The salad comprised shredded daikon, finely chopped paprika for color, corn, and more. There was also white cabbage kimchi, bean sprout namul, and pumpkin. I proceeded to grill the meat on the table's gas stove. The sauce was a light one with added spicy miso for extra flavor. The thin slices of meat cooked quickly, releasing the sweet beef fat. The rice was delicious, and opting for the larger portion was the right choice. With the additional 30g, the 120g kalbi was very filling, offering a satisfying meal.
