A bar quietly opened on the third floor of the central building of the colloquially known "Islam Alley," just northwest of Shin-Okubo Station. During lunch hours, they serve curry. There’s no sign, so I felt a bit uncertain as I climbed the stairs from the back of the building and opened the door with a wooden poster on it. Inside, the atmosphere is decorated with a handmade forest theme, and I met a young Japanese master. The menu features two types of curry: Spice Keema Curry for 850 yen, and Spice Tuna Menchi Katsu Curry for 900 yen, as well as a combination of the two for 900 yen. Toppings like egg, cilantro, and cheese are also available. I ordered the combination with cilantro topping.
In the dish, the rice is molded in the center and surrounded by the two types of curry, with one tuna menchi katsu placed on top of the rice. There’s a generous amount of sauce, which feels quite satisfying. The tuna menchi katsu curry is rich and mildly sweet, offering a gentle and soft curry experience. In contrast, the keema curry is spicy. Mixing the two while eating creates a great balance of flavors, enhancing the overall deliciousness.
