Makuake Early Bird: Support purchase for the Santos Omakase Course with all-you-can-drink option for one person, plus a special limited offer. From Omotesando Station, head towards Shibuya. Go a little along Route 246 and on your right, you’ll find La Porta Aoyama on the basement floor next to Omotesandoria, where you will find Sushi Suntos (turn right at the front of the building, then take a small path on the left a bit further along that leads to stairs on the right). It can be hard to find, as there’s no sign for Sushi Suntos on the building directory, which might cause some stress.
Starting in October, there are two seatings at 6 PM and 8:30 PM. The restaurant has 6 counter seats, one table for 4, and 3 tables for 2, accommodating a total of 7 customers, including myself as a solo diner, with a joint start at 8:30 PM. If you prefer the counter for two or more, it’s advisable to make a request.
The course features 25 dishes that are visually and tastefully satisfying, showcasing an excellent arrangement. The chef, with over 30 years of experience, personally prepares about 10 pieces of sushi, including rolls. I requested smaller rice portions. It seems the dishes are prepared by the neighboring Omotesandoria. The fried items are well done, lightly greased, and fresh. More surprising than the food was the selection of wines. I had thought pairing sushi with wine would be challenging, but I learned a lot. Each wine was interesting on its own. The combination with ingredients like oysters, cream cheese, tuna, ankimo, and anago was impressive. I was particularly thrilled to find wines that paired well with kohada, gari, and aji.
There are three sommeliers, including the representative Tsunashima, which seems to be a strong point for the restaurant. The representative personally serves the wine and food. It was an experience unique to this place, and I truly appreciated it. However, I did feel slightly unsatisfied, wishing I could have had a bit more sushi. I might have been able to order extra sushi, but I felt there was no time within the course as it wrapped up. It seems that this place is more about enjoying the wine and dishes rather than just the sushi. Their other locations are quite popular as well. I think the owner is a wonderful person both as a manager and a practitioner. I will definitely come back. Thank you for the meal.
