After visiting the Shikabe Geothermal Spring, I looked for a day trip hot spring on my way back. Unfortunately, some facilities were closed due to the pandemic. I ended up stopping by this local hot spring near Lake Onuma. It's like a super public bathhouse used by locals, but surprisingly only costs 500 yen. It has a large bath, a natural hot spring open-air bath, a sauna, and more. The hot spring water is quite ordinary, but it helped me relax and warm up after driving. After soaking, I enjoyed some milk and soft serve ice cream. The bottled milk from Komagamine Milk is pasteurized at low temperatures, rich and creamy with milk fat sticking to the underside of the cap. It was delicious. The soft serve ice cream was also rich and tasty. The spacious bath made it easy to enjoy even with many people around. It was a great hot spring facility.

On the second day of my trip to southern Hokkaido in October 2019, I traveled on National Route 278. This road goes from Hakodate City, around the coast of Kamida Peninsula, to Mori Town. To be honest, if you want to go from Hakodate City to Mori Town, it's much faster to use National Route 5, and there are no major tourist attractions along Route 278. It seems like the main role of this road is to serve as a daily route for local residents and as a detour route in case of trouble on Route 5. However, when it comes to the Michi-no-Eki stamp rally, Route 278 becomes more interesting, as there are four Michi-no-Eki (roadside stations) along the way: "Natowa E-san," "Jomon Romance Minami Kayabe," "Shikabe Intermittent Spring Park," and "Tsudoru Plaza Sawara." It's quite impressive, right? Additionally, Shikabe Intermittent Spring Park is actually located along Hokkaido Road 43, which runs parallel to National Route 278, but for convenience, I included it as part of the Route 278 area. In more detail, the road facing the station used to be part of National Route 278, but when a bypass was completed, the bypass was designated as Route 278, and the road facing the station was changed to Hokkaido Road on April 1, 2017. Who would read such a geeky road explanation... (laughs) Moving on to "Komagamine Onsen Chappu Hayashikan." This hot spring facility is located along Hokkaido Road 43 (strictly speaking, about 100 meters away). Geographically, it is on the inland side of the route from Kayabe Town. The reason I didn't continue on National Route 278 towards Mori Town is because I needed to buy Lucky Pierrot hamburgers as souvenirs. In Mori Town, Red River is the northern limit of Lucky Pierrot. If you continue on Route 278, you will overshoot the location. So, I decided to stop by this hot spring facility. I went alone. It's the Lonely Chappu Hayashikan, hahaha! The hot spring water is alkaline simple hot spring. It's slightly warm but very nice. However, shampoo and body soap are not provided. I forgot to bring them! So, I discreetly borrowed some from another customer who was soaking in the bath... which would be considered theft, haha. After bathing, I drank Komagatake Milk. It was creamy and rich, delicious milk. That's all for now.

The venison hamburger from Koma-ga-take in Morimachi was extremely delicious. The bath and sauna were also excellent.

Many hot spring reviews in 2015/9 revisit are monopolized by "Keipon-san". They are completely imitating the reviews. I used to visit this hot spring often when I was working in Donan. Such as Wakaba in Ochibe, Wa in Yakumo, and Chappu Hayashikan. All of them are for day trips only. This day was the last night in Donan. Before going to the usual izakaya in Morimachi, I took a bath. The bath here is spacious and cozy, with an outdoor sauna hut and three open-air baths. A magnificent bath overlooking Mount Komagatake. After the bath, the customary milk is a must. "Komagatake Milk" is thick and delicious. I think it is a double-edged sword compared to "Yamakawa". Licking off the fat on the lid is a secret direction. (^_^;) Morimachi is a town with many hot springs, but in the direction of Mount Komagatake, I hope this casual hot spring will continue for a long time.
