In a small soba restaurant located near a subway station in the western part of Sapporo, it may seem like a standing-eating place at first glance, but looking at the menu, they also offer udon, rice dishes, and "Coffee time is available from 1:30 PM." Originally, soba restaurants in the Edo period were like today's cafes, where people would casually stop by for some soba. This place gives off a vibe of being in a downtown area. The restaurant has been in this location for over 10 years, and before that, it was in Kotoni for over 40 years. The seating is limited, and it gets quite crowded, but the turnover is not slow. In front of the open kitchen, there is a tempura frying station, where the owner carefully fries the ingredients. The aroma is delightful. The "Tendon set (kake, mori, your choice)" for 980 yen is a must-try here! While it may not be the same nowadays, when I was a child, tempura rice bowls seemed to be a step above other rice bowls. Katsudon was popular for its taste, while Tempura rice bowls had a more sophisticated and special feel. Due to this, even though I love Katsudon and Oyakodon, I still have this misconception that Tempura rice bowls are a bit more special. The set arrived in about 5 minutes, and at first glance, the tempura rice bowl looked cool! In recent years, this kind of presentation has become popular, and you can see it in many places. Even though the shrimp tempura overflowing from the bowl was a common sight since I was a child, it still exudes a sense of coolness typical of downtown areas. Of course, tempura is at its best when hot! As soon as I took a quick photo, I reached for my chopsticks. The tempura had a crispy texture at the edge, reminiscent of a snack, asserting its freshly fried quality. As expected, it was exciting. The tempura rice bowl had a sweet and savory sauce that suited it well. The soba was typical of a local soba restaurant, with medium-thin noodles, soft texture, and a mild flavor. The dipping sauce was a balanced medium-thick type that spread the dashi flavor on the tongue. The green onions, wasabi powder, and soba-yu were also included. The service was friendly and homey. Thank you for the meal. Next time, I might stop by for some coffee. The restaurant has a parking lot not only in front but also at the back of the shop.
