Visited my 9th fried rice spot in 2020 in May. Lately, I've been on a "fried rice" spree, exploring fried rice dishes at various local Chinese restaurants. I can't help but order fried rice whenever it's available, even at ramen shops - I'm a fried rice enthusiast. As a result, I'm taking a break from my "anzake noodle" exploration for now. I had some business in the Tonden area and decided to visit a local Chinese restaurant that has been on my mind. This area seems to be purely residential, so I assume these are neighborhood-oriented shops. I ordered the "Gomoku Fried Rice" for 880 yen, which includes shrimp, char siu, green peas, egg, and green onions. The fried rice had a strong soy sauce flavor and a slightly dry texture. It was decently sized and had shrimp in it, but honestly, I thought it was a bit pricey. The taste was a bit monotonous. The soup with seaweed was just okay. I also tried the "Set A" for 1,180 yen, which included the popular "anzake yakisoba" - a type of yakisoba with a light sauce. The dish was filled with ingredients like napa cabbage, pork, squid, shrimp, komatsuna, bamboo shoots, and mushrooms. The mushrooms seemed to be canned, but they were authentic. The side dish was bamboo shoot chicken with a delicious dressing. My companion mentioned that the almond jelly dessert was surprisingly tasty. Overall, the restaurant had a "local Chinese" vibe and seemed a bit on the expensive side. I expected more reasonable prices for a local Chinese restaurant. Paying 1,380 yen for a "ramen set" at lunch just doesn't seem right.
