Recently, I got information that a "creative izakaya" in the Kujo area of Nishi-ku is super delicious and trending, so I decided to check it out. After getting off at Exit 6 of Kujo Station, I walked straight into the shopping arcade on the left for about three minutes and found the restaurant. Today's spot is "Shunmi Manzai Izakaya Mikan" (pronounced "Mikan"). ⬜︎ Today's order: Premium Course with 9 items (with all-you-can-drink) for 4,980 yen, ×2 ◯ Assorted sashimi ◯ Roast beef spring rolls ◯ Pork belly and daikon radish ◯ Oven-baked onions ◯ Fried oysters ◯ Grilled horse mackerel neck ◯ Hiuchi steak ◯ Seasoned rice with dashi chazuke ◯ Vanilla ice cream ⬜︎ Drinks: Draft beer, highballs ×2, oolong tea ×2 First off, since this place is quite popular, the earliest reservation available was at 8:00 PM, and when I arrived, it was completely full. This was on a weekday at 8 PM! The seating arrangements provide some privacy, with curtains separating the tables so you can't see your neighbors. Now, to cut to the chase, this course was absolutely amazing. Everything was delicious and paired perfectly with drinks. I tried to pace myself for my "liver's sake," but it was so tempting that I wanted to drink more and more! I’ll highlight a few standout dishes instead of going through everything, as that would take too long. ⬜︎ Assorted sashimi: Each serving was beautifully plated and divided. It was incredibly fresh, with a variety of types, and simply gorgeous and tasty. ⬜︎ Oven-baked onions: This one is a must-try for onion lovers. The beautifully caramelized onions are incredibly sweet. Personally, I think you can't miss this dish! ⬜︎ Grilled horse mackerel neck: This dish was impressively thick and delicious, like something you'd expect from a much higher-end course. My friend loved it and I ended up sharing half of mine with them! ⬜︎ Hiuchi steak: It was perfectly proportioned, not too greasy, just right. Having hiuchi as part of the course was a pleasant surprise. I also borrowed half of my friend's portion! ⬜︎ Seasoned rice with dashi chazuke: When both my friend and I took a bite at the same time, we both exclaimed "Wow!" and even made the staff laugh. This was definitely the best dashi chazuke I've had recently! It had a gentle aroma and a hint of sweetness that really whet our appetites. Overall, I can confidently say that the quality of this creative cuisine is top-notch, and with such a luxurious and delicious lineup for only 5,000 yen including all-you-can-drink, it is truly unbeatable. The staff, including some really cheerful and cute girls, provided attentive and pleasant service. In the Kujo area, where there are many delicious restaurants, this place's popularity is well-deserved, and I highly recommend visiting at least once. You'll be hooked! It was incredibly delicious! Just a 2-minute walk from Kujo Station, this stylish izakaya offers creative Japanese and Western dishes that make generous use of seasonal ingredients. We enjoyed a course with 90 minutes of all-you-can-drink options. The dishes are beautifully presented and quite delicious, making it a high-quality gourmet-focused establishment. The spacious interior, which is much larger than it appears from the entrance, features semi-private booths and can accommodate parties of up to 50 people. Reservations for year-end and New Year gatherings are recommended. This trendy izakaya is also perfect for gourmet girls' nights out or sophisticated dates!

I visited on Culture Day, in the middle of a three-day weekend (Sunday). I had a vegetable appetizer platter, a special egg omelet, baked onions, a meat platter, and cream pasta with shrimp and blue crab, along with bottled beer and a highball. All the dishes were delicious. In particular, the cream pasta with shrimp and blue crab was outstanding. While eating, I couldn’t help but silently repeat "Watarigani no kurīmu supagetti" (cream spaghetti with blue crab). The restaurant was beautiful, and the staff were refreshing and kind. That day, there happened to be a lively reunion in the back, which added to the atmosphere.

The oven-baked onions were so melty and delicious, with a lovely sweetness! The special rolled omelet was also incredibly fluffy and tasty. The assorted vegetable dishes were beautifully presented, allowing us to enjoy a variety of flavors. The salmon was tender and delicious, and the finishing fried rice was also amazing. Each dish was simply delightful, making this restaurant highly recommended! The interior was clean and inviting too. Definitely worth a visit!

This izakaya offers dishes made with incredibly fresh seasonal vegetables and fish. I decided to visit since it recently opened near Kujo Station (Osaka Metro), which I have a special connection to. I was looking forward to the daily recommended vegetable menu and creative dishes, but I wasn't as impressed as I had hoped. When I say I wasn't impressed, I mean that there wasn't much creativity in the dishes; however, the taste was good.

I ordered a lunch with chicken nanban, ebi mayo, and dashi-maki. There were lots of bits of fried chicken on top of the vegetables, all covered in tartar sauce, and I really questioned if this was right. The ebi mayo had such a thick batter, it felt like more than half of it was just the coating, which made the texture off-putting. The miso soup had cucumbers in it, making it feel like leftover ingredients were just thrown in. I was really let down by this lunch, especially since I already knew the place and won't be coming back.

It's great for both solo diners and groups, regardless of the cuisine type. The freshness of the vegetables is excellent, and the drinks are significantly cheaper than at other places! Being able to enjoy well-known brands of alcohol at a good price is a treat for drink enthusiasts. Even for those who don't drink, the drink menu is extensive, and there are meat and fish options available, making it highly recommendable.

I believe the reason for the bustling crowd is the affordable menu filled with a variety of fresh ingredients sourced daily from the market. For example, their signature dish, the Awaji onion oven-baked dish, is slow-cooked until incredibly soft and only costs 380 yen per plate. While observing the customers, I noticed a mix of groups, including cheerful gatherings of moms, colleagues before work, and business meetings, showcasing the versatile and stylish atmosphere. Despite being reasonably priced, it feels like a place loved by the locals, truly representing the Kujo area. As I was browsing through the menu on the touch panel, more and more interesting options kept popping up, and I found myself thinking, "I'll order this next time," only to forget about them later. On October 26, I visited "Shunmi Mansai Izakaya Ajikura," which will be relocating and reopening in June 2024. It’s a stylish and wonderful place! I started with a super dry medium-sized Asahi beer for 590 yen and a small veggie appetizer platter, or "vegi-sake mori," for 890 yen, featuring pickled shallots, meat-miso cucumbers, and stir-fried bell peppers, all in small portions—perfect for sharing! Next was roasted Awaji onion for 390 yen, sweet and juicy, followed by a large角ハイボール (kaku highball) for 499 yen. The fluffy, juicy rolled omelet (dashimaki) was a delight at 390 yen. The sashimi platter, shown in the opening photo, costs 1,300 yen and includes a variety of fish like tuna, bonito, marinated mackerel, squid, octopus, and salmon—all incredibly delicious! I enjoyed the uniquely fragrant barley shochu "Kanpachi" on the rocks for 399 yen. The meat dishes are also worth trying, like the wagyu tataki with salt and ponzu sauce for 890 yen.
