My favorite Ankake Yakisoba in Otaru! This time, instead of Silphid on the 1st floor, I guided to Houshi on the 2nd floor. I visited to use up my T points on Tabelog, and I was more satisfied than expected. Writing an article on Tabelog earns you T points. I had been saving up my points without using them, but I found out that over 100 points will expire on December 15th! What a waste! I like to visit various restaurants in Hokkaido on holidays, so I decided to find a restaurant in Otaru where I could go during work breaks. Come to think of it, I haven't had Ankake Yakisoba here recently. I made a reservation on Tabelog the day before and visited. I like the Ankake Yakisoba at Silphid, but it's a bit pricey at 1,300 yen, making it hard to use regularly. However, using the T points I had accumulated made it feel like a good deal. Just before 11:30 am, I parked my car in the hotel parking lot. The parking fee is free. As soon as I entered the entrance, there was a sign saying that today's lunch is at a restaurant called Houshi on the 2nd floor. I didn't realize there was a restaurant on the 2nd floor! I took the elevator up to Houshi, right above Silphid. I told them my reservation name and went inside. It was a spacious restaurant, but there was only one other group of customers. Although I had decided on Ankake Yakisoba, I was briefly tempted by the Chinese lunch of pork and sliced green peppers (1,500 yen), but I calmed myself down and stuck to my original plan of ordering the Ankake Yakisoba for 1,300 yen. By using 720 T points, I only had to pay 580 yen. The Ankake Yakisoba looked fantastic. You could tell it was going to be delicious even before eating it. The hot sauce, well-cooked noodles, and oily texture made it a proper Chinese-style Yakisoba. The dish was generously filled with ingredients, and the flavors were well-balanced. The seasoning was on the slightly stronger side with a soy sauce base, but that's what made it so good! It was delicious...♪ Adding mustard for flavor variation was a nice touch. The mustard added a great accent to the dish. Adding plenty of vinegar at the end for another flavor change was perfect. Ahh... This is it. Refreshing, satisfied feeling after finishing the meal. The ability to change the taste twice is something that only Ankake Yakisoba can offer. Adding mustard, vinegar, or enjoying it as it is, they all fit perfectly. The egg soup had a nice balance of saltiness and the soft texture of the egg was delightful. I used to think of the soup as just a bonus, but I realized it's a wonderful side dish. The pickled vegetables were a perfect palate cleanser. It was a great accent to eat in between bites of the Ankake Yakisoba. Maybe it was because I skipped breakfast and was hungry, but the deliciousness was exceptional. I heard that the taste had declined recently, and I was a bit skeptical when I visited this time, but it was as delicious as it was a few years ago!... I think the 1,300 yen price is worth it, but as a local resident, it's a bit hesitant to use it for everyday dining. If there were services like a 10% discount for local residents with ID verification, it might be easier to use. It was a bit lonely to see only a few groups of customers in a spacious space, even though it was a weekday. In terms of service, I was surprised when a female staff member silently placed a large plate in front of me from behind without any words like "Excuse me from behind" or "Thank you for waiting." I flinched! I wished for a voice cue if they were going to serve from behind. Despite that, I was satisfied with the delicious Ankake Yakisoba. The male staff who handled the payment was smooth and had a good demeanor. I'll visit again when I accumulate more points!
