Sushi refugees find solace in fried oysters and macaroni salad. After that, my husband is fine as long as he can drink alcohol, so we decided to check out this place we found at that time! We entered from the back, so we couldn't see the whole picture of the place and were unsure if it was open. "Are you open?" I asked, and the response was, "Yes, please come in." Inside, there was a large screen playing music videos. The adult gentleman working there had a slim figure and a wolf cut hairstyle, giving off a vibe that he might be into music. We looked at the handwritten menu of the day's specials and noticed the attention to detail. The options included Gâteau au Chocolat with homemade rum raisin ice cream, orange juice, gin and tonic, and orange gin and tonic. When my husband asked about the gin and tonic options, the gentleman pointed to the second shelf on a shelf and let him choose from the high-end gins available. Here's where it gets interesting! I have been suffering from severe back pain and taking a lot of medication, so I have been avoiding alcohol. I ordered orange juice, and the gentleman kindly showed me the bottle of rum raisins, saying, "The rum is well soaked, so the alcohol has evaporated. Are you okay with that?" Alcohol is not completely off-limits with my medication, so a little bit is fine. Later, the gentleman started whipping the cream for the Gâteau au Chocolat! I was surprised to see him, with his appearance, making desserts by hand. It's a nice touch! After a short wait, the cream arrived, perfectly whipped to seven minutes. It must be hard to make it in advance, I see! The Gâteau au Chocolat came with two slices, and it was rich and incredibly delicious. The center was gooey, and it paired well with the cream. The rum raisins were plump and fresh, bursting in the mouth with a strong rum flavor. Together with the ice cream, it was amazing. The orange gin and tonic was freshly squeezed and strained, showing the effort put into making it. A couple in the back was enjoying pasta, which must have been delicious. This place was a complete surprise, as we had no prior knowledge of it when we decided to visit. As we looked into it further while inside, we found out that the gentleman had worked with Chef Ochiai, which was interesting. We were lucky to have found such a great restaurant, and my husband's keen sense of smell led us to it. With no cover charge, the total bill was only 3,600 yen! Affordable, delicious, and entertaining. If we're ever in the area, we'll definitely be back! Thank you for the wonderful meal.

I visited this restaurant for the first time! The à la carte drink menu seemed a bit expensive, so I opted for the all-you-can-drink option. The variety of drinks on the all-you-can-drink menu is not extensive, but you can enjoy authentic cocktails. They don't serve drinks with the usual alcohol content you find elsewhere, so they brought us a pitcher of water haha. The owner has a unique atmosphere haha. However, the dishes they create have very delicate flavors. The appetizer salad had prosciutto! From octopus carpaccio to simmered pork... They even serve roast beef, so it's quite a generous portion haha! The pasta was a light fish pasta. I wanted to try all the drinks on the all-you-can-drink menu, but I got too drunk haha. I love french fries, so I ordered an additional serving of Hokkaido potato fries. Delicious drinks and delicious food. It was amazing. Thank you for the meal.

I was drawn in when I passed by this place in mid-April. What I had this time: Scallop Carpaccio, Rosemary Gin and Tonic, Assorted Sausages. I might have had one more drink? That's about it, I think it was around 4000 yen. The owner, who seemed to have trained in Tokyo, was a good storyteller and shared about his journey to opening the restaurant. The food portions are quite generous, so it's better to go with 2-3 people if you want to order food as well. Overall, the taste: Rosemary Gin and Tonic was a first for me, so it may not be helpful. It had a nice acidity and was enjoyable. I think most people would find it decent, with no one really disliking it. A slightly higher rating of 3.5 stars. Service was normal, nothing special, so 3 stars. The atmosphere didn't quite get me excited, maybe because of the unfamiliar drinks I had. The owner is chatty, which can be a hit or miss depending on personal preference. I found it a bit overwhelming this time, so a normal rating of 3 stars. In terms of value, the food portions were satisfying, unlike other places where you might feel hungry after spending the same amount. So, a higher rating of 4 stars. As for drinks, there were many unfamiliar ones, making it a bit confusing for me. Personally, I tend to rate higher for unfamiliar drinks, so 3.5 stars overall. The slightly mysterious vibe of the place might become addictive. I'm not sure if they are open during this time with the COVID situation, but I plan to visit again once things settle down.

In my opinion in August 2019, people in Otaru do not eat sea urchin bowls at restaurants. It's because it's more cost-effective to buy sea urchin from the market and eat it at home, and it's not much different from eating at a restaurant. Some people say sea urchin bowls are not a dish, but leaving that aside, I am also someone who eats sea urchin bowls at home except when writing about it as a topic. However, when it comes to sea urchin pasta, it's a different story! If you want to eat sea urchin pasta in Otaru, there's no other place to consider than here, and as part of our routine every year at this time, we visited "orange otaru" again this year. This restaurant has the same atmosphere as when it was a different restaurant before, especially at night it gives a dim impression that may make it intimidating for first-time visitors, but first we quenched our thirst with draft beer and ordered the "Grilled 100% Black Pork Salsiccia" as a side dish, and the tightly packed meat flavor and herb aroma are truly addictive. The carpaccio of live octopus uses locally sourced octopus from Otaru, and the unique chewy texture of raw octopus is really good. Also, we always order the homemade roast beef when we come here, and this time I noticed a soft and elastic texture. I heard that they used to use lamb before, but they switched to pork for certain reasons. Well, the flavor of the meat is excellent, so it's not a problem. When we visited, we were the only ones there, but it took some time for the food to be served after another couple arrived. It's understandable since they were understaffed and the food is delicious, so you have to be patient (^^;) Now, regarding the sea urchin cream pasta, I've written about it in the past so I'll skip the details, but it's not on the menu and it's available from June to July or around August during the Obon festival, and you need to make a reservation by the previous day at noon. However, there are times when it's not available, so you need to be careful. By the way, I don't know the price. I've never asked before, and it's probably market price. However, I have eaten sea urchin pasta at other restaurants, but sea urchin pasta priced below 2,000 yen is not very promising. Because at that price range, there will likely be a small amount of sea urchin and the rich flavor won't come out! Finally, as a side note, I plan to include a "Eat this at this restaurant when you come to Otaru!" section in the future when I have time, and the sea urchin pasta here will definitely be included.

I had always wanted to visit "orang otaru" as the exterior looked fun and mysterious, but I hesitated to go alone. However, on this day, I was with drinking buddies so I gathered my courage and went in. This summer is hot! I started with a beer. Their specialty roast beef (half size) was satisfying with thick slices of meat. Since they were out of octopus, we tried the flounder carpaccio, and the pizza without marinara sauce. The prosciutto and pork cutlet were good choices. The food was decent overall. They have various cocktails made with fresh fruits, which were fun and delicious. The only downside was the wait time for the food to come out. If you're patient, give it a try.

The atmosphere of the shop is stylish, the owner is friendly and easy to talk to, and the prices for drinks and food are reasonable for a bar.

In July, when summer comes, I remember the creamy sea urchin pasta here! It's made by Chef Ochiai, using fresh sea urchin from Otaru without reservation. The roast beef with Hokkaido lamb is delicious, and the gravy sauce is equally tasty. The most popular dish here is the Niigata snow-aged pork cutlet, which is juicy and flavorful. The atmosphere is like a pub, but the food is surprisingly delicious, similar to the restaurant "boite de nuit haco" run by a female owner in Hanazono.

The Godiva chocolate and banana cocktail I ordered as a dessert after pizza and pasta was amazing. I also tried 100% cocoa for the first time and was happy to find it. I even ate the peel (lol). I sprinkled cocoa on the cocktail mentioned above and it was delicious. The interior was stylish too, so I will definitely come back!

I found this cafe by searching online for places open late. It was incredibly stylish and felt like a hidden gem. The Italian food and drink menu were both extensive and everything looked delicious! I definitely want to come back and try their food next time.

In August 2016, I visited the Chinese restaurant "Tenrenka" in the city and coincidentally met the owner. I remembered having a special order of sea urchin pasta last summer, so I inquired if I could have it this year with a prior reservation, which was confirmed. I wanted to have it again this year, so I visited with my family. It had been a year since our last visit, and the menu had slightly expanded. We enjoyed a platter of prosciutto and cheese, gorgonzola and honey baguette, and salmon carpaccio with a few glasses of white wine as appetizers. The gorgonzola and honey baguette seemed like something I could try making at home. The sea urchin pasta, a special order, had a stronger taste of cream compared to the one I had a year ago. Despite that, it was delicious, given that it was prepared by a chef trained at Ginza's "La Bettola". If you want to have sea urchin pasta in Otaru, this is the place to go! In September 2015, my family of five visited the restaurant at night, mainly for the sea urchin pasta. The owner had trained at "La Bettola" in Ginza, which intrigued me. Additionally, seeing an elderly reviewer enjoying sea urchin bowls in Shakotan and Mashike this summer inspired me. However, sea urchin bowls are just rice topped with sea urchin, while here, they introduced sea urchin pasta for the first time in Japan, prepared by a chef who trained under the renowned Ryohei Hieda. Our meal included a platter of saucisson and cheese, Caesar salad with a soft-boiled egg, homemade roast beef made from Hokkaido beef, and corn potage loved by the kids. The Margherita and Quattro Formaggi pizzas were delightful, especially with the thin and crispy crust. Finally, we indulged in the sea urchin pasta, made with fresh sea urchin from Otaru, priced at 2,000 yen per piece. The pasta was cooked to perfection, highlighting the sweetness of the sea urchin. It was the second-best sea urchin pasta I've had, with the best being at a now-closed restaurant in Sapporo.

A challenging trip to Hokkaido. I traveled from Hakodate to Otaru, and now I'm here for the night ✧٩(ˊωˋ*)و✧ First, I tried the apple wine sangria made with fruit ice. The ice contains various fruits inside. I couldn't resist the temptation and ate them all (・ω・) I also enjoyed pasta and roast beef. The pasta had shrimp with shells that you can eat, in a tomato sauce. It was delicious~ The roast beef was thickly sliced and the meat was cooked perfectly. Thank you for the wonderful meal ♡

I visited for dinner and I was quite lost on the way there. Be careful with Google Maps as the pin location is slightly off. Even if you enter the address into your car's navigation system, the location may be different. The place is not on a narrow road but faces a relatively wide street. If you enter a narrow road, there may be dead ends. The interior of the restaurant has a Jamaican vibe, with some unique seating arrangements. I ordered a homemade ginger ale for drinks, roast beef, and shrimp tomato sauce pasta. The ginger ale was not too sweet and had a strong ginger flavor. The roast beef was delicious, made from Hokkaido beef. The pasta had shrimp in a tomato sauce, and the mushrooms were tastier than the shrimp.

Visit on January 10, 2016. First, about the title, I won a 5000 yen meal voucher for this place in the November issue of "Kazer," a local information magazine in Otaru published by the Hokkaido Shimbun. I applied for the campaign and was lucky enough to win, so I came here today! It was a place I was already interested in, so my partner is also thrilled. When we arrived around 5:00 pm, there were only two women at the counter, and it stayed that way from the entrance to the exit. The interior was slightly dim with a cozy, hideaway atmosphere. I like this feeling! First, we ordered drinks. I had a draft beer (Sapporo Classic) and my partner chose the recommended drink, a mandarin gin and tonic! Cheers! The mandarin gin and tonic was very easy to drink and delicious. My partner said it might hit later. Now, onto the food order. Here's what we ordered this time: ・Today's original salad (half) 500 yen ・Potato fries 400 yen ・Margherita pizza 800 yen ・Today's tomato sauce pasta 800 yen ・Roast beef (half) 500 yen The salad of the day was a Caesar salad with a French salami called "Sosison" mixed in, and the dressing was very tasty. My partner was eating it eagerly. It was seasoned so well that even the half portion was gone in no time! The Sosison was a nice touch! My partner loves potato fries, so we always order them wherever we go. They had powdered cheese sprinkled on them, but they were just regular potato fries. The Margherita pizza had a thin crust and was perfect as a snack with drinks! The cheese was delicious! Today's tomato sauce pasta (forgot the name) was a pasta with fried shrimp and mushrooms! The shrimp was whole, so I bit into it, and it was very delicious. The tomato sauce was also excellent. They offer a daily pasta special for lunch, so that's a sure bet. The roast beef (half) was the main dish I had been wanting to try at this restaurant! It lived up to its reputation, tender and tasty. I wish I had ordered the full portion! I'm very satisfied! My partner tried various drinks, so I'll mention them. ・Moscow Mule with homemade ginger ale ・Hazelnut liqueur with milk ・Chocolate banana cocktail with Godiva chocolate liqueur I tasted a sip of each, and they were all unique drinks that showed the owner's dedication. The cocktails start at 700-800 yen, which is a bit pricey (the owner even said it's not cheap). But they use homemade ginger ale, banana jam, and other unique ingredients, so these original cocktails can only be enjoyed here. I think it's worth it! The owner loves rum, so I tried rum for the first time today! I think I'm going to get hooked on this. I only had one drink this time, but I promise to come back and learn more about different rums here. The owner asked about my preferences, made cocktails for me, explained the dishes, and was very friendly and approachable. I was very impressed. I've decided to come back for sure! Thank you for the meal!

I went to this restaurant for the first time. The lunch menu includes pizza (various kinds), pasta, and roast beef, each served with salad and a drink. Since I had pizza yesterday, I chose pasta. The salad had Caesar dressing on watercress with black pepper, which was delicious. Even though I'm not a fan of Caesar dressing, I couldn't get enough of it. I'll try making it at home next time. The pasta was Salsiccia and onion cream pasta (with cheese and black pepper), and it was delicious. I finished it all in one go. I will definitely visit again! The owner turned on the light for me when I was taking a picture of the pasta. Thank you very much!

I visited Otaru on a business trip. After the first meeting, I stumbled upon a dining bar that was a really wonderful place. When you enter the restaurant, the first thing you notice is the counter. Behind the counter, there are a few tables. And if you go up the stairs, there is a hidden space that feels like a secret hideaway. It reminded me of the adventures I read about in Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn as a child. This is a place where adults can forget their usual serious faces and just have a good time. As for the drinks, they have original cocktails made with fresh fruits as well as classic options, providing a variety of choices. I started with a pear gin and tonic. The crisp texture and aroma of the pear really complemented the gin. Next, I decided to try a rum, and it turns out the owner also loves rum, so I wanted to try all the rums he recommended. I ordered the Dictador, which had hints of coffee and chocolate, and it was truly delicious! It made me appreciate the greatness of rum even more. Then, I tried the Pampero Aniversario, which was well-balanced and dangerously easy to drink. As others have mentioned, the owner used to work under a famous chef in Tokyo. I couldn't resist ordering the Quattro Formaggi, and it was absolutely delicious. Lastly, I had the Moscow Mule, which had homemade ginger ale and was one of the best I've ever had. If I ever visit Otaru again, I would definitely want to taste it once more. The food, drinks, and conversations with the owner made for a very enjoyable memory. Even for a traveler like me who may only visit once, they provide top-notch service and make you feel welcome. It's a truly wonderful place. If I lived in Otaru, I would probably visit three times a week. Quattro Formaggi: 1,000 yen

I went to Otaru. It's Orange Otaru. The parking lot was spacious with dirt, and I parked my bike and went inside the shop right away. This time, I visited based on the review of the well-known reviewer, Hidanda Kimatta. The chef is young but very friendly. He seemed busy by himself, so I refrained from chatting too much. While he was preparing my lunch, more and more customers kept coming in. It seems like they came based on information from a local magazine in the Otaru area. I ordered the Boscaiola (980 yen), which comes with pizza, a mini salad, and a drink. The Boscaiola had a thin and crispy crust with plenty of cheese and mushrooms on top of tomato paste. It was a well-balanced pizza, not too salty. Although I couldn't see the full potential of the chef's skills in the pizza, it might be more evident during the evening service. Thank you, Hidanda Kimatta, for coming all the way to visit. It was nice to see your face.

Welcome! In May 2015, in the Shounai district of Otaru City, if you walk down towards the canal from JR Otaru Station, you will find the historical building of Hanagokoro right away. In front of it is the Marguerite Blanc hamburger facade. The atmosphere hasn't changed, right? The owner seems friendly and talkative. When asked about the previous owner, the response was like this. All lunch items are the same price, including pizza, pasta, fish & chips, salad, and a drink. There are various types of pizza to choose from, making it difficult to decide. When asked about the daily pasta, the answer was immediate. The evening lighting is calm and sophisticated. And the salad, which is also Italian style, has a generous portion. The Caesar dressing and balsamic vinaigrette with the bitterness of onions and watercress are delicious. The watercress can be prickly, so be careful when eating. Today's daily special was Neapolitan pasta. The owner proudly said, "I cooked it by pouring a lot of ketchup!" It had a great impact and was delicious. The pasta was chewy and the ingredients included onions, green peppers, wieners, and even bacon. Eating it with ketchup was a great experience. The Neapolitan pasta in Otaru surpassed the nostalgic Showa-era coffee shop version, and it was even more impressive than Senjoro (which I haven't reviewed yet). It's a one-of-a-kind experience depending on the owner's mood. The pizza from the previous customer looked tempting, and I'm looking forward to what they offer in the evening next time. Thank you for the delicious meal!
