I still have some draft material for Sapporo, but as a break, I will post this first. Before getting into the main topic, I have a question for everyone: Do you consciously aim for milestone numbers? Personally, I sometimes do and sometimes don't! This time, as I visited my 200th dining establishment in Chitose, I decided to have a luxurious meal at "Yokaro" for dinner. Previous milestone restaurants I chose were: - 100th in Ebetsu: "Ko***ji" - 100th in Chitose: "Menya ***" - 100th in Sapporo: I wasn't conscious of it (but it was "Ne***hana Ma***ya") - 200th in Sapporo: "Ka***l Mo***ta" - 300th in Sapporo: To be decided! - 10th Curry Shop in the Top 100: "I***ji Curry Shop" (I probably won't be conscious of it unless it's the 50th) There was only one group of customers before us. Before deciding on the menu, the staff kindly hung up our coats and asked if we were comfortable, creating a homely and welcoming atmosphere that reminded me of my childhood. This time, I ordered the "Yokaro Donburi (¥1800)" and the "3 Duck Meatballs (¥400)". The dishes arrived about 10 minutes after ordering, which was faster than expected. The Yokaro Donburi is served in a deep bowl with rice, sea urchin, spicy cod roe, salmon roe, and parsley as decoration. It's a luxurious dish that allows you to enjoy three different toppings in one bowl, similar to a "mentai donburi". The sea urchin is sweet and rich, melting in your mouth without even chewing. The spicy cod roe is mildly spicy and has a gentle flavor, which is more enjoyable than a strong overpowering taste when combined with seafood. The salmon roe is large and has a pleasant crunch, with a balance of sourness and sweetness from the vinegar. The rice is not vinegared but plain, at a temperature that maintains the freshness of the sea urchin. Although vinegared rice might enhance the toppings, the fact that plain rice can still be this delicious shows the high quality of the dish. The side dishes are home-cooked and comforting, with the shimeji mushroom dish being the standout. The duck meatballs are hot, juicy, and have a mild flavor without any unpleasant smell, reflecting the effort put into the skewers at this izakaya. The bowl was generously filled, and with the additional meatballs, my stomach was full. On milestone days, you have to indulge a bit! At almost ¥2000 for just the bowl, it's not something I can afford regularly, but considering the freshness of the sea urchin, the variety of side dishes, and the overall service, it's a reasonable price compared to touristy donburi places. It might also be enjoyable as an izakaya experience! Thank you for the delicious meal.
