Today, I had lunch at this place near Azabu-Juban Station. It was Wednesday at 12:00, and the restaurant was empty, allowing me to sit at a spacious table comfortably. It also had a clean and tidy atmosphere. This time, I ordered the grilled salmon set meal for ¥1,800 and the grilled yellowtail set meal for ¥2,000. Cost performance: 3. Food: 3.2. Atmosphere: 3.2. Service: 3.

I really wanted to have a Japanese-style breakfast, so I did some research and found a place to go! You can choose between two types of fish (salmon or mackerel), and it comes with two small side dishes. I also ordered some kinpira, pickled plum, takana (mustard leaf), and kelp separately, along with natto. It was the perfect Japanese set meal! I was very satisfied!

We enjoyed a 5,500 yen course together with a friend. For drinks, we had recommended Japanese sake served from chilled to warmed. The appetizer (maybe called hassun?) featured spicy simmered cabbage, dashimaki tamago (Japanese omelet), and kinpira gobo (braised burdock root). These snacks had a homemade feel while still showcasing professional skills, making them pair wonderfully with the sake!
Next up were the grilled eggplant and vegetables in a thickened sauce. The flavors were healthy and gentle. Then we shifted gears to hearty fried items: cream croquettes paired with ketchup, which were really addictive! We also had some fried oysters and a bit of fried chicken. Of course, tartar sauce was a must! The tartar had hard-boiled eggs and was chopped for a fun texture.
There was grilled fish, which was likely miso-marinated cod... if I remember correctly. To wrap things up, we had salmon and brown rice Japanese-style fried rice... (this part is a bit hazy in my memory, haha). Thanks to Charlie's friendly service, we relaxed and enjoyed drinks and conversation at our leisure. It was such a lovely restaurant, and we left feeling very satisfied. One point to note: the lighting was quite bright, which made the food look good, but my companion said it wasn't very forgiving on the complexion (laughs). On the other hand, the bar in the same chain had a much moodier ambiance...

The restaurant opens at 7:30 AM. I chose the grilled mackerel and salmon, which came as part of a Japanese set meal. The small side dishes included deep-fried tofu and boiled greens, and there was grated daikon and kinpira gobo (stir-fried burdock root) served alongside the fish. Arranged on the plate were bamboo shoots, kelp, and pickled plum. There was also a self-serve option for rice and miso soup. The seasoning was refined, and the moderate sweetness of the honey-pickled plum made sense knowing that the owner is from Wakayama Prefecture. I enjoyed it very much.

In a quiet area of Azabu-Juban, there is a beautiful dining establishment. The large windows provide a great view of the interior. Although the restaurant is not very big, it has a calm atmosphere that allows guests to relax. For lunch, diners can choose from options such as grilled mackerel, grilled salmon, grilled yellowtail, domestic Kobe beef, seafood fritters, and pork cutlet. The photo shows the domestic Kobe beef, which was satisfying in both taste and portion. Starting with sashimi, the lunch set features a variety of well-balanced side dishes, which is delightful. Each dish, especially the main course, is carefully prepared and delicious. This place is highly recommended for gatherings and luxurious lunches.

I hadn't visited since my last experience, where I had to wait a long time for lunch. After the restaurant moved, I saw that the person behind the counter was different from before, so I thought I’d give it another try. Unfortunately, it was a mistake. There were four groups inside the restaurant, and one person was handling both the dining room and delivery orders. Multiple delivery drivers came in, but since it was just one person, everything was slow. They mentioned a 10% service charge, but it seemed the staff was overwhelmed, so I felt I had to reach out to them first. I wanted a quick dinner, but it took three and a half hours... The portion sizes were all small. I questioned whether the sashimi was really worth 1,600 yen based on its appearance; the myoga was poorly chopped, and the green onion was cut too large. The back of the counter was a mess, with bags and items piled up that were visible from outside, and the dividers between seats were shabby, made of torn black fabric. I won’t be returning and wouldn’t recommend it to anyone. I think the restaurant needs to focus more on improving customer satisfaction than just making a profit.

I recently visited a restaurant for lunch and had the pork cutlet set meal. Recently, a nearby modest tonkatsu (pork cutlet) shop in Azabu-Juban closed down, leaving me in search of fried food. I heard that Ami-jo has started offering a tonkatsu set, so I quickly ordered it. Its full name is "Aged Roast Katsu Zen."
As for the taste, I must say, it was juicy and delicious, almost comparable to that of a specialized tonkatsu shop. The cutlet is made from pork loin, with little fat and no odor. The sauce was particularly tasty! Interestingly, it doesn’t come with cabbage. By the way, why do tonkatsu dishes always come with cabbage? I personally feel there’s no necessary reason for it.
The standout feature was definitely the sauce! It wasn’t thick like regular tonkatsu sauce; rather, it was light and soaked into the batter, with a hint of sweetness that enhanced the meat's flavor. The sauce was perfectly balanced—not too overpowering, just right!
The small side dishes were, as always, elegantly flavored. They provided a gentle taste that complimented the main dish, serving as a nice palate cleanser. I was particularly impressed by the flavor of the blanched greens (perhaps komatsuna?).
It seems they’ve added new items to the menu, including oyster fritters, shrimp fritters, and mixed fritters, so I’m looking forward to trying all of them next time. My partner loves oyster fritters, so he asked the staff to increase the quantity, which they kindly accommodated (laughs). I reaffirmed that this is a lovely and versatile place to dine!

I've been curious about this restaurant in Azabu-Juban for a while. I ended up here since I couldn't visit some of the places I wanted to go. The inside of the restaurant is small, with a counter and a couple of tables—maybe two or three? However, it has a somewhat cluttered feel that makes it seem less inviting from outside. Looking at the menu, everything seems well-rounded and delicious! I ordered some side dishes like potato salad, grilled mentaiko, and daikon tempura. All of them were pretty good. The drinks were also enjoyable. When I heard they had sanma (Pacific saury), I ordered it grilled with salt, and it was nicely charcoal-grilled and tasty. The atmosphere wasn't bad, and the food was good. Still, I rarely see it bustling with customers. Even this time, it was just us there. It's a mystery, but when I saw the bill, it all made sense. Given this atmosphere and this pricing, it's understandable why it's not more crowded.

I heard that Ami-jo has moved near Azabu-Juban and serves breakfast sets, which is a rare find in the area with limited breakfast options. Before work, I decided to visit during opening hours, and there were no other customers at the time, allowing me to relax and sit down. I ordered the breakfast set for ¥1,200, with grilled mackerel as the main dish.
After about ten minutes, the breakfast set was served. I started with the miso soup, which, like the rice, was piping hot. The mackerel was small but had a good amount of fat, making it perfect for breakfast. The dish included various sides: kinpira (sautéed burdock), spring noodles, a small cup of chilled tofu, and some moderately salty pickled plum, takuan (pickled daikon), and kelp from the tsukudani.
I could have refilled my rice and miso soup, but I made sure not to overeat so early in the day. It’s rare to find a place serving breakfast sets like this, especially in a neighborhood where few places open for breakfast. This makes it a top choice for morning meals in the area.

Before the move, I visited for lunch and thought it was a great set meal. After relocating nearby, it has become smaller and more casual. After the move, they even started serving breakfast! I had the domestic black wagyu beef set meal for lunch (2,200 yen) and it was delicious, prepared in a sukiyaki style. The rice was really tasty too. Next, I want to try the crab cream croquette set meal. (I did notice that the air conditioning wasn't very effective, which was a minor concern.) Money spent: 2,200 yen. Rating: 4 points. 5 points: Definitely want to visit again! 4 points: Would like to visit again if the opportunity arises! 3 points: It’s okay to visit again. 2 points: One visit is enough. 1 point: No need to go.

I really like casual restaurants. The reason is that I usually eat out on weekends, but eating in a formal setting can be tiring. I prefer a more relaxed dining experience. This place has a vibe that doesn’t match its appearance, which I find really appealing. The prices are super cheap too, especially compared to other places in Azabu-Juban. When it was near Ajino Park, I went there about 3 to 4 times. It has changed a lot and has become more laid-back, which I really enjoy. I definitely want to go at least once a month, and I’m even considering going in the morning since they open early.

This is a review of Ami-Jo, a Japanese restaurant located near exits 1 and 4 of Azabu-Juban Station, which moved to a new location in June 2024. On this day, I had lunch here. I ordered the "Ichiju-Gosai Ami-Jo Lunch Set" featuring grilled salmon over charcoal. The presentation of the meal was beautiful and meticulous. The small dishes, miso soup, and rice were all delicious, and I enjoyed the wonderful flavor of the grilled salmon. It was a lovely lunch set. Since they also serve breakfast, I plan to visit again in the morning. Thank you for the meal!

In the past, the choices included wagyu and grilled fish, but now they've added a fried food menu. There were options like shrimp tempura, cream croquettes, and fried horse mackerel, but I didn't hesitate and chose the pork cutlet (my favorite). It was a mature pork loin cutlet, so it had a good volume and the fat was just the right thickness, making it delicious! The tonkatsu sauce had a nice balance of acidity and sweetness, which was wonderful! While they didn't have cabbage like a traditional tonkatsu restaurant, I was pleased with the variety of small dishes in the lunch set at Amijo. I requested a second serving of rice and miso soup. Thank you for the meal! It seems that the private dining rooms are no longer available, but the counter and table seats are spacious and provide a nice open atmosphere, so I recommend making a reservation for those who want to enjoy a leisurely lunch.

This is a new restaurant near Azabu-Juban Station. The interior is clean but quite simple. I visited for lunch and ordered the salmon set meal. There are about four other fish options to choose from as well. Given that there are other places nearby like Takishita and Anmei that also offer fish set lunches, I have the impression that it might be tough for this restaurant to compete, considering the ambiance and other factors.

I used this place for lunch. The prices and the items offered were a bit disappointing, I guess. The female staff wasn't very friendly, and the rice refills had a microwave smell from the plastic wrap, which was a bit disappointing... The side dishes and the main course were normally tasty, however...

I recently visited the newly renovated Ami Castle with a friend who lives nearby! In the past, we had to climb stairs to reach the second floor, but the new location is on the ground floor, making it much easier to see inside and enter. The prices for the dishes are very reasonable. I was particularly pleased to see that there are no longer any cover charges or service charges.
I highly recommend the flavored vegetable simmered in broth, the simmered dish, and the fish grilled over charcoal. All of them have a gentle flavor, which pairs well with alcohol, but they also make you crave white rice. This place is famous for its silver rice served in a clay pot, so when we ordered the Wagyu grilled with fragrant flavors (like a sukiyaki style!?), we decided to also get some silver rice. It's great that they cook it fresh from one go. They asked if I wanted crispy rice on the bottom, so I requested it with the crispy layer (^o^). The Wagyu was domestic black-haired beef, which was very tender and delicious!

Just a 2-minute walk from Azabu-Juban Station, I visited 【Azabu Ami-jo】! Founded in April 2016 next to Ajido Park in Azabu-Juban, 【Azabu Ami-jo】 has gained popularity for offering high-quality Japanese cuisine, especially since the chef is a former member of "Nadaman". On June 8, 2024, they relocated and renewed their restaurant nearby! Their menu features a variety of options that you’ll want to enjoy every day, including charcoal-grilled dishes using binchotan, stews, and fried foods. At dinner, they offer a self-service free drink option for just ¥1,650 for an hour, allowing you to enjoy drinks while snacking!
The restaurant is situated along a street just off the main road. The bright and casual interior includes 18 seats, both at the counter and at tables, making it a comfortable place to dine. This time, I ordered the "Ami-jo Breakfast Set" for ¥1,200, which is an exclusive menu available every morning from 7:30 to 10:00!
The set includes:
- Two types of daily small side dishes
- Grilled fish (salmon or mackerel)
- Kinpira gobo (stir-fried burdock root)
- Kombu tsukudani (kelp simmered in soy sauce)
- Pickles
- Kishu Nanko plums
- Miso soup
- Freshly cooked Koshihikari rice
It’s a hearty meal with a lot of volume! Plus, thanks to a Tabelog coupon, I received an extra small dish, making it an amazing deal! Each item was made with care, and the freshly grilled fish was particularly to my liking. I also appreciated that I could get refills on rice and miso soup! Overall, it was a very satisfying breakfast. I would love to visit again for lunch or dinner if the opportunity arises. Thank you for the meal!

It seems that the two-person tables are pet-friendly. The menu hasn't changed much from the old location, except that horse sashimi is no longer available. They mentioned it might return someday. They grill fish and meat over charcoal, so you can enjoy them hot and delicious. On this day, I had sautéed Spanish mackerel with miso and a cut of beef called "ichibo," both cooked perfectly and very tasty. There seem to be daily specials and hidden menu items that aren't listed, so it's worth asking about those. The drinks are self-service, which is great because you can enjoy as much of your favorite drink as you like. I recommend eating at the counter while chatting with the chef. He seems to have traveled around the world and you can ask him various things, making your food and drink even more enjoyable!

I visited before and found the food to be fairly average—nothing particularly special, but also not bad. I think it's a good place to go when you want some casual Japanese cuisine. The menu offers plenty of options that are likely to appeal to both children and adults. I visited before the renovation, but I've heard they now serve breakfast as well. I'd like to try going for breakfast next time I'm nearby.
