I found these at a Michi-no-Eki in Abashiri. Sweet pickled wakasagi and shrimp tsukudani. They are made by the Abashiri-based "Miura Yoshimi Shop." Their products include wakasagi tsukudani, sweet pickled wakasagi, shrimp tsukudani, and vacuum-packed shijimi clams. The sweet pickled wakasagi is from Hokkaido. It is larger than the wakasagi used in the tsukudani. It is tender and delicious. The shrimp tsukudani is made from sujiebi (river shrimp) from Lake Abashiri. It has a savory shrimp flavor and a vibrant red color. Both are perfect as a side dish with rice. I will definitely buy them again. (o^O^o)

I found some large clams in Sparbenri in Hokkaido after a long time. I used to buy clams with sand already removed from a fish market because I couldn't make it taste good myself, but the store closed down and now clams are no longer on our dining table! Apparently, freezing the clams increases the flavor. These clams from Lake Abashiri in Hokkaido hold over 70% share of clams caught in Hokkaido. Unfortunately, there was an issue with the water quality which led to the suspension of clam collection. I was wondering what happened to the clams I used to eat back then, and then they disappeared from the store shelves. When I saw them in the store, I mistook them for scallops instead of clams, so it's good news. And they are so easy and delicious to eat! One pack of 150g is enough for 2-3 people and costs around 380 yen! Just put the frozen clams in the pot once the water boils. "Hello from the Bottom of the River" is a Japanese movie about a clam factory in Tokyo, and it always makes me feel better after eating clams. I will continue to enjoy these frozen clams with sand removed. Bon appétit!

I received a gift from my relatives, thank you very much! Even though it's just my wife and I living together, 1.5 kilograms of tsukudani is a lot (^^; But hey, both of them are delicious! They are perfect as a side dish for rice or as a snack with drinks! I can eat them endlessly, so they disappear quickly. I'll have to order more soon! Thank you for the 1 kilogram of wakasagi tsukudani and 500 grams of shrimp tsukudani, both specialties of Lake Abashiri! (^^)v

It was by chance that I stopped by "Miura Yoshitomo Store" to use the restroom. I felt bad for not buying anything, so I decided to look around the shop. It's a roadside station, so it's not really necessary to feel bad, but still. I found some pickled wakasagi fish there. I actually prefer pickled small shrimp, but they didn't have any, so I settled for the wakasagi. They are caught in the ice fishing of Lake Abashiri. The pickled fish from Abashiri has a strong sweetness and is quite hard. It's so hard that you might break your chopsticks. I'm not kidding, I've actually broken chopsticks a few times. It's a bit of a shock, even with disposable chopsticks. It's disappointing when something you use regularly breaks. I hate that pickled fish. I always thought that was normal, but the wakasagi pickled fish I bought in Kushiro was loose and not as hard as the Abashiri one. It was a bit of a culture shock. Well, it cost around 350 yen, which is quite expensive, but at this price, it's easy to buy. They've priced it just right. I got back from my night shift, and for me, it was the middle of the night. I should just go to bed, but I decided to have some pickled fish as a snack. Who's calling me a night bug? This pickled fish is not as strong in sweetness as what I usually eat, so the bitterness of the fish comes through. The seasoning is not too strong, so the slight bitterness is quite pleasant. As expected, the pickled wakasagi from Abashiri is delicious. I also like the pickled small shrimp from there. I haven't seen it around lately.
