For lunch today, I felt like having curry after a long time. I wanted to visit a restaurant in one of the fiercest curry battlegrounds in Kansai. So, today I visited this restaurant. I climbed the narrow stairs of the building all the way up to the 3rd floor, and at the end of the floor, I saw a door with "丁子" written on it. I thought the door was left open, but it was separated by a plastic curtain. Upon entering the restaurant, I experienced a paradise of coolness. The inside was surprisingly spacious and had a sense of openness that couldn't be imagined from the entrance. I sat at the counter and looked at the menu. I had done some research beforehand, but I wanted to double-check. On the far right, there was a menu called "Spicy Chicken Keema." In the past, I would have ordered it without hesitation as a stable menu. But now, I immediately rejected it (laughs). However, I still wanted to eat something spicy to promote sweating in the hot summer. So, what I ordered today was this, "Mala Keema" for 990 yen. The menu described it as "a keema curry with plenty of pork that combines the numbing and spicy flavors." This restaurant doesn't call it curry but "wa-re" (Japanese-style curry). The owner is said to be from the famous restaurant "Goyakura" in Minamisenba, and he has been taught the Goyakura menu "wa-re." I haven't visited Goyakura, but I feel like I can experience the taste of Goyakura at this restaurant. By the way, coleslaw is served as a set and provided immediately after ordering. I chose the olive oil salt dressing from the 5 dressings available. I had it while waiting for the curry, and the dressing was really good. It was my first experience, and I feel like trying it at home. Although I don't cook at home (laughs). While I was enjoying that, the curry arrived. Surprisingly, it was served in a bowl! It was surprising and fresh. Is this the reason it's called "wa-re"? It looked delicious with plenty of pork packed in. When I tasted it, I felt a moderate numbness and spiciness attacking at the same time, but it was not like "It's spicy!" or "It's numbing!" It felt mild. With this, even those who want to eat spicy food but feel hesitant can enjoy it without worry. I felt that the amount of rice was generous. There are options for large, regular, and small, with large being 450 grams, regular being 300 grams, and small being 200 grams. When I looked up the typical amount of curry rice on the internet, it was 200-300 grams. Generally, the amount of rice at curry restaurants is said to be 300 grams. So, is that normal? (^◇^;) I felt like it was a lot, maybe because my stomach has gotten smaller? But my weight hasn't decreased at all (laughs). I enjoyed it. Next time, I will go for 200 grams. Choosing the small size will give you a discount of 110 yen.
