I crave Thai food. I crave Thai food. Like a silly child, I constantly search for Thai food day by day. Once I get hooked, I indulge until I get bored, then suddenly realize and calm down a bit. During the cold season, I was all about European-style curry. I relentlessly sought after European-style curry. Hmmm? But maybe my Thai food craze has been ongoing. In this subtropical Japan, spicy! Sour! Delicious! Thai and Vietnamese dishes are the best. I've persistently written on sites like Tabelog about my obsession with Seven-Eleven's Yum Woon Sen. The other day, I excitedly asked the chubby, marshmallow-bodied gentleman at my neighborhood Seven-Eleven, wearing a name tag, “How long will you be selling this?” He seemed quite taken aback. Seriously, Seven-Eleven’s Yum Woon Sen is incredibly tasty. If they end sales this summer, I might feel compelled to send a complaint email to Seven-Eleven. No, I wouldn’t do that, but I kind of want to send them an email saying, “Please keep it in stock!”
Yum Woon Sen is typically enjoyed hot in Thailand, but I prefer it ice-cold. Now, let’s talk about a Thai restaurant named Skontar. Before, when I stayed at a ryokan in Toba with my parents in Nara, I thought about grabbing something delicious for lunch while transferring at Nagoya station! That place, I realized, had unexpectedly opened in Tokyo after I had a lovely lunch with my dear Eiko at the neighboring Italian restaurant! I finally got to visit it with my friend for dinner. I’ve been dying to try the soft-shell crab curry stir-fry! I also wanted Yum Woon Sen, shrimp toast, and fresh spring rolls, depending on how full I felt. To drink, I ordered cold jasmine tea.
First up, Yum Woon Sen! The fancy dish was hard to share, but it was packed with nuts and absolutely delicious. My friend dislikes wood ear mushrooms, so I gobbled those up. The dish presentation could use some improvement! But Skontar's Yum Woon Sen is a must-try!! Delicious! The shrimp toast was great too! Fresh spring rolls were tightly rolled but still tasty. The soft-shell crab curry stir-fry was really good! It had barely any spiciness. I thought about adding rice but didn’t end up needing it since I drizzled the sauce over the soft-shell crab. The soft-shell crab was tasty, but I didn’t quite feel the crab flavor. I’d be satisfied even with just the fluffy egg curry stir-fry. Sorry for my unrefined taste! I could eat more, but my friend had to call it quits! Well, we were heading to indulge in dessert at a second stop. We left very satisfied, with each of us spending about 3,000 yen. Just two people who don’t drink got in and out quickly.
I want to come for lunch too! Ah, Thai food is so delicious... I’m really happy... I could eat so much! That day, I walked from around Kabukiza in Higashi-Ginza to Toranomon Hills Station Tower, totaling about 18,000 steps since morning. However, my appetite has been strong, and I’ve been steadily gaining weight.
Now it’s Saturday evening. I woke up slowly at 8, did laundry, prepared lunch, and then had a wonderful yoga session! After my relaxing yoga, I went back home for an afternoon meal, then walked in the scorching heat to buy groceries with my husband. After that, we walked to the library. Before heading out, I asked my husband if there was anything he wanted for dinner. He hadn’t stepped outside all day and had devoured a whole rice serving for lunch, so I expected a light dinner response, but to my surprise, he said, “I want to eat Ni Hao Fried Rice!” Wow, his appetite is impressive!
My husband's birthday is in the fall, and when I asked him if we could still handle buffet-style meals, he replied, “I can totally manage, a buffet lunch would be great.” He’s seven years older than me but has an amazing appetite. Seriously, he’s impressive...
