Yakitori Minami in Kitashinchi, a restaurant listed in the top 100 on Tabelog and awarded the Michelin Bib Gourmand, offers a variety of courses ranging from 4,900 to 9,300 yen. I opted for the most expensive A course priced at 9,300 yen, which included appetizers, sashimi, palate cleanser, grilled skewers, salad, soup, main dish, and dessert.
Highlights from the meal included black soybean oil marinated dish, refreshing yam noodles in a slightly thick dashi broth, tender chicken skewers with a tangy ponzu sauce, flavorful sake lees cream cheese with olives, and moist and bouncy Yamato chicken with kelp.
The grilled skewers featured items like tender chicken tenderloin with wasabi, savory meatballs with a robust sauce, lean and lightly chewy chicken neck, thinly sliced gizzard with a satisfying texture, and thick and meaty chicken thighs with a flavorful sauce. The meal ended with a choice of rice dishes - I picked the egg over rice with bonito flakes and seaweed, which was a comforting and delicious option.
Overall, the yakitori experience at Yakitori Minami was reminiscent of Ayamuya, with elegant and refined portion sizes. Personal favorites included the chicken heart skewers, meatballs, quail eggs, and pork belly with shiso. The meal was healthy and satisfying, and I would recommend choosing the smallest course and adding on extra skewers based on your preferences. I look forward to exploring more top-rated yakitori restaurants in the future.
