After buying taiyaki at Tanakaya, I decided to go to another place nearby that also sells "white taiyaki". It's only about 200 meters away, so you can easily try both regular taiyaki and white taiyaki. This place is located in a prefab building outside of Hokuren, so be careful not to confuse the two. They offer 10 varieties of taiyaki for 150 yen each, including red bean, white bean, cream, sweet potato, black sesame, soy milk, vanilla, cheese, matcha, and chocolate. The sign mentioned that all their ingredients are sourced from the same wholesaler as a famous local confectionery shop. I was lucky to get a freshly baked, piping hot taiyaki this time! Even though it was hot, it wasn't crispy but rather chewy and stretchy. Almost like mochi. Is it because it's made of tapioca that it's white? However, even when it cooled down, it remained chewy and delicious, so maybe the white one is actually recommended as a souvenir? My husband chose cream as a souvenir, while I went for black sesame. The sesame red bean filling was also delicious! It's been so long since I last had white taiyaki... I was too full this time to try, but I was intrigued by the octopus balls sold in a pack of 8 for 300 yen... Isn't that cheap? Cheaper than the takoyaki shop in Anping. I'll definitely try them next time. Despite the low prices, they even have a stamp card, and the staff stamped it generously... Thank you... It was a delicious meal!

On a certain holiday, I visited a shop in Chitose City, on the grounds of the HOKUREN SHOP East Suburbs, that I had been curious about for some time. I parked in the parking lot on the HOKUREN SHOP grounds. A small prefabricated building in one corner of the parking lot was where the shop was located, and a senior lady welcomed me. From the menu on that day, there were various options, but the lady took the initiative and said, "What we have now is..." and I made my selection from a few choices. I chose the "Red Bean Paste (150 yen)" which was said to be delicious even when cold, and indeed, it was served cold. When I took a bite in the car, I found that the pure white dough made from tapioca had a unique soft and stretchy texture, although it didn't have much flavor. There was not much red bean paste inside, but the sweetness was well balanced. I also tried the "Cream (150 yen)" which for some reason was served piping hot. The soft and stretchy dough was the same, and the hot cream inside was surprisingly good. I hope the shop stays warm as the weather gets colder. Take care of yourselves. Thank you for the meal.

After feeling a bit down from eating ramen, I stumbled upon this shop while shopping at "Hokuren". I had tried their white taiyaki last month and decided to buy it again this time! It seems like the shop had temporarily closed but has reopened. They offer 11 different flavors, and I chose the "Vanilla (¥150)" and "Sweet Potato (¥150)" taiyaki. They were not freshly baked, but that worked out well for me since I was in a hurry. I shared them later. The texture was soft and the dough was sticky, making it a bit difficult to cut. The dough was chewy and stretchy, more like mochi than taiyaki! I preferred the Sweet Potato flavor, it was sweet and comforting. The inside was red, just like the Sweet Potato itself! The Vanilla had a gooey texture, more like cheese than vanilla, but lacked the richness of cheese which I didn't like much. It was a different texture compared to the nearby "Tamagoya", and I found it refreshing. While crispy textures are more popular, this unique texture was also good. I'm curious about the other flavors and hope this shop continues for a long time. Take care, Grandma. Thank you for the meal.

I found a taiyaki shop that I saw in Miyu-chan's review when I came to buy bread near here! I stopped by right away and they had just opened, so the only options available were red bean paste and cream. I bought one of each (*^^*) They were freshly baked and piping hot! They were so chewy and mochi-like! I wanted to take a picture of the cross-section, but it stretched out and looked messy, so I didn't take it (;´∀`) The red bean paste was sweet and the cream was creamy and sweet. It felt more like eating a daifuku than a taiyaki (#^.^#) By the way, they mentioned that starting in May, the 130 yen taiyaki will be raised to 150 yen. I'm curious about the cheese flavor available only in May, so I'll go buy it again soon (*´∇`) Thank you, Ebisudo!

It's been a while since I had a white taiyaki. I got red bean paste, white bean paste, vanilla, chocolate, and sweet potato flavors, 5 in total. The auntie even gave me an extra one (*≧∀≦*). The texture was chewy and it was delicious in a different way from the ones at Tanaka's house. I had it as a snack when I got home.

After eating ramen at Jill, I tried the white taiyaki with red bean paste at "Shiroi Taiyaki Ebisu-do" in front of the Hokuren Shop in Higashiko 2-chome, Chitose City (130 yen). You can see the color of the red bean paste through the white taiyaki skin. The menu includes options like red bean paste (130 yen), white bean paste (130 yen), custard (130 yen), chocolate (130 yen), vanilla (140 yen), matcha (140 yen), soy milk (140 yen), and cheese (150 yen). White taiyaki was popular for a while. The skin is chewy but also soft. I think I prefer regular taiyaki. Overall, it was a nice treat.

When I visited the Chitose area, I found that there were hardly any places selling white taiyaki anymore, even though a few years ago they were sold in many places. I used to quite like white taiyaki, so it's a shame. But then I discovered that there was still a place selling white taiyaki, and they had three flavors available: vanilla, matcha, and red bean paste. I wanted the red bean paste filling, but they only had the chunky kind, so I settled for that. The white taiyaki was soft and chewy, but a bit undercooked. I prefer a crispy and chewy white taiyaki.

I found out about this place from a follower's review. They offer red bean paste for 130 yen, vanilla for 140 yen, custard for 130 yen, and chocolate for 130 yen. There used to be a white taiyaki shop before, but it seems to have closed down and now a new one has opened. They had all five flavors available, except for white bean paste which was sold out. I was lucky because I planned to buy the other flavors anyway. The taiyaki is small, soft, and chewy. It's different from the brown taiyaki. I struggled a bit to cut it cleanly with a knife. I like to save my favorite part for last, so I ate half of each flavor in this order: red bean paste, vanilla, custard, and chocolate (I ate all of the chocolate). The red bean paste was the most delicious. Even eating just half of each, I ended up feeling quite full. Thank you for the meal.

In 2009, when the white taiyaki (fish-shaped cake) became a big trend, two chain stores opened in Chitose. However, one of them quickly closed down. The trend faded away, and white taiyaki was no longer a hot topic. In the midst of this, "Ebisu-do Chitose Store" continued to operate steadily, but finally closed on August 31st this year. However, recently while shopping at Homac, I noticed that a curtain was hung at the store that was supposed to be closed. I visited the store and found a small flower celebrating the opening. The store is now run by an elderly woman, not the previous one. When I asked about the closure on August 31st, I was told that the previous woman had health issues and returned home, so a new owner took over and reopened the store as a new business. I bought one taiyaki with red bean paste and one with custard cream, but I still don't like the soft mochi-like texture. I hope the new store will prosper in the future.
