On 2023/06/21, I visited Nakau Susukino Nishi store and had the "Yamawasabi Zaru Soba / Special" for ¥680. I was in the mood for cold soba that morning. I remembered that the regular portion disappeared after about 3 bites, so this time I ordered the regular Zaru Soba for ¥480 and upgraded to the special size for an additional ¥200. The special size had a good amount of soba, and even though it was a bit pricey, it was very satisfying. The soba had a nice aroma, and the combination of the sharp scent of mountain wasabi and the sweetness of the fried tempura flakes made it enjoyable until the last bite. On 2023/05/05, I went to Nakau Susukino Nishi store and tried a menu I had never eaten before. It was the simplest form of udon, but for some reason, I had never felt like ordering it. And that's how I ended up ordering the "Kamatama Udon + Mentaiko Rice" combo! The udon comes with a separate bag of bonito flakes. Some people may not like the raw egg white, so an egg separator is provided, but I actually like the white, so I mixed it directly and sprinkled bonito flakes around it. Then I mixed the egg with the sauce poured over the udon and slurped it all up. And then I took a bite of the Mentaiko Rice. It was delicious! At the end, I poured the remaining sauce and raw egg from the udon over the remaining Mentaiko Rice and enjoyed it till the last bite. Overall, the Kamatama Udon was tasty, but it didn't have that special something that would make me order it again. The wasabi mixed dipping sauce that stimulates your nostrils is the highlight of the cold udon! The noodles were just right, and even in a large portion, I could slurp them up easily. The simple yet delicious rice with spicy cod roe and fragrant sesame seeds was also tasty. I even tried putting a little bit of cod roe on the udon, and it was super delicious. But before I knew it, the spicy cod roe rice had disappeared from the menu. I was completely satisfied but extremely disappointed at the same time.
