Daruma-san is famous for their "Muddy Ramen," but on this day, I was curious about this black one that I had been wanting to try. Its name is Black Salt Ramen. When it was served, it was really black, which surprised me. When you scoop the soup with a spoon, it is actually salt ramen inside! Of course, since it's salt ramen, it's normal. Just by looking at it, you might think it's extremely bitter and strong, but it's actually a delicious salt ramen! Thanks to the lard, the soup stayed hot until the end.

I'm in Kitami City on a business trip. Due to the pandemic, I planned to just have ramen for dinner and quietly drink in my room. But I ended up at a place where I couldn't help but order a beer. It had a casual vibe. I ordered a bottle of beer and some gyoza. While waiting for the gyoza, I enjoyed some bean sprout namul. The menu had a tempting photo of braised pork, so I ordered that too. I thought I would get full before eating the ramen, but the portions of namul and braised pork were smaller than expected. I tried the DORO Ramen (their most popular dish) and that was it. I was pretty full by the end. The braised pork was delicious though. ⭐

This particular ramen shop, known for catering to late-night drinkers, is currently open for lunch as well. Today, I tried their Salt Ramen for 700 yen. The soup is a light brown color with lard and sesame floating on top, offering a gentle flavor that is somewhat similar to soy sauce. The noodles are medium-thin and slightly soft. The dish also includes pork, bamboo shoots, egg, green onions, and seaweed. Despite the lack of customers during my visit, the situation seems tough for the restaurant. Overall, it would probably taste better after a night of drinking.

Darumaya was open for lunch. Many bars and restaurants are working hard to stay open during the pandemic, offering lunch menus or takeout options. I want to support them by eating at their establishments. Darumaya is known for its popular Doro Ramen, but they also have Doro Spicy Ramen on the menu. I haven't tried it before and you can choose the level of spiciness, so I decided to go for the 3x spicy option. The soup was hot and not too sweet, which I liked. The noodles were slightly curly and cooked perfectly. The slightly thick soup coated the noodles nicely and was delicious. The 3x spiciness was manageable for me, so I think I could handle even a 10x spiciness level. It was slightly salty, which I thought was perfect for a meal after drinking. I'm thinking of going to TRUNK for gelato for dessert.

The piping hot Dora ramen was really delicious (๑´ڡ`๑). It might be even better than the Haruhikari store. The gyoza seemed to be lacking in the way it was cooked, so I'll try it at another restaurant. I heard it was delicious, so I tried the miso ramen. The miso was tasty, but I preferred the Dora ramen. It felt like the amount of noodles was a bit less. The rice portion was generous. The ramen rice combo was excellent. They mentioned that they will also be open for lunch starting tomorrow.

Inside the shop, there were two groups enjoying beer and gyoza, as well as three customers at the counter. The soup, which has a hint of sweetness, is indeed thick and gooey rather than rich. It has a strong flavor that can be felt even when drunk, so it seems good with rice and ramen. The perfectly cooked yellow noodles also blend well, and it was nice to have a boiled egg on top. Hmm... I remember having ramen at the neighboring soba shop last year. It was the day before when we decided to eat in Kitami, so we booked a hotel and met up in Kitami on Friday. My wife and I met up in Kitami to eat, which was something we hadn't done in a long time. However, for some reason, we couldn't really eat and our excitement dropped after visiting two places. As we were looking for a third place, we ended up in Tanukikoji (the sign has been removed now) and saw that "Daruma-ya" had opened. I was surprised, thinking, "Huh? Daruma-ya is now a night spot?" By the time we were looking for the third place, my wife, who was not very enthusiastic, said, "Let's just finish at Daruma-ya." Reluctantly, I managed to convince her to go to a third place, which turned out to be "Daruma-ya at night." The counter was empty, and the staff asked, "Are you a couple?" We ordered beer, which was served in a cold glass, and it tasted great. We ordered "gyoza" first, which arrived in 5 minutes. The gyoza was delicious, just like the gyoza at Daruma-ya. However, it seemed like it wasn't cooked enough, maybe it was my fault for not putting in enough effort. My wife ordered the "miso ramen" but ended up getting the "muddy ramen" because it was Daruma-ya. It took less than 7 minutes for the ramen to arrive, and while it looked like muddy ramen, it seemed a bit cheap. My wife enjoyed it, saying it was delicious. I tried it too, and while it was indeed muddy ramen, it felt a bit light in flavor. It seemed good for the body but lacked richness and depth for me. What bothered me was the lack of friendliness. Both the staff and the atmosphere lacked the freshness of a new restaurant, and there was no sense of "we look forward to serving you in the future." When I asked my wife the next day if she noticed the lack of friendliness, she said, "Yeah, I felt it too."
