The cost performance was good and the portion size was generous. The Western-style meat and potato stew served as a starter was not to my liking, but the fried tofu and boiled dumplings I ordered were cheap and satisfying. The fried tofu was made with silk tofu wrapped in seaweed, not thick fried tofu, and the seaweed did a great job. Delicious. The boiled dumplings came with five dumplings and two chicken wings for around 500 yen. The broth was tasty, and if I had room in my stomach, I would have wanted to add some porridge or ramen. The signature menu item is a pork cutlet with rice inside, or a pork cutlet with natto inside, so I will try that next time.

During my student days, I rarely went to fashionable izakayas. But when I did go occasionally, I thought the "katsumeshi" and "katsu natto" were delicious, proving why it was a popular spot. After graduating and moving away from Sapporo, I didn't have the chance to go back for a long time. However, on a recent business trip, I wanted to reminisce about my student days and the first thing that came to mind was to eat "katsumeshi". It had been a long time. I enjoyed the "katsumeshi", "katsu natto", and a chu-hi drink in a style reminiscent of my broke student days. Looking back, it was affordable, but at the time, it felt like a luxury. #North24Jo #MemoriesOfStudentDays #KatsuNatto #KatsuMeshi

I went to the izakaya "Ochan" on North 21st Street. It's been over 30 years, but I'm happy that there are still restaurants I used to frequent. It has a slightly trendy atmosphere now, but I'm pleased that the classic menu items from back then are still available. Katsudon is a dish where rice is wrapped in pork cutlet. You pour soy sauce over it and mix it with egg. They also have Katsunatto, where natto is wrapped in cutlet instead of rice. What makes me happy at this restaurant is that they have a relatively wide selection of sake. And the prices are reasonable too. You can drink plenty of sake in a big cup and get drunk one after another for sure! 😂

At the north end of 21st Street, there is a izakaya that I used to frequent during my student days. I would often stop by on my way back from the public bathhouse across the street. Back then, the shop was still small, with just a counter and a couple of tables in the back from what I remember... I always used to order the pork cutlet rice bowl, natto with pork cutlet, and braised pork. I loved the enoki mushrooms that came with the braised pork♡ Also, the potato cheese spring rolls, chicken cheese rolls, and horse sashimi. Nowadays, the shop has expanded to three stories inside, and the entrance has been relocated to the second floor. It has become more stylish!! They still have the pork cutlet rice bowl and natto with pork cutlet!! They have also been slightly upgraded, with the potato cheese spring rolls now looking like ribbons www The pork cutlet rice bowl is made by wrapping rice in pork and frying it. It's the taste of my youth.

Recommended by a senior, this izakaya seems to be popular for its deep-fried cutlets with natto sandwiched in between and cutlets with rice sandwiched in between. Most menu items are around 400 yen. I tried a drink called "Chukatsugen" for the first time, and I lost count of how many I had, but I was able to eat and drink to my heart's content for less than 5,000 yen. What a great deal!
