関西将棋会館道場の常連客
Date of Visit: November 24, 2024, at 12:10 PM. This was my third stop on a food walk in Takatsuki, at the Chinese restaurant "Fukuhou." It's located about a three-minute walk west from Hankyu Takatsuki City Station, down a narrow alley off Takatsuki Center Street. The restaurant opened this summer, but given the cuisine's spiciness, I avoided visiting during the hot season. Now that it's getting cooler, I decided to stop by just before heading home. I ordered "Mala Daoxiao Mian" (spicy knife-cut noodles) with a side of white rice. I was informed that I could lower the spice level, but I opted for the standard level.
**Food & Taste: 3.2**
The "Mala Daoxiao Mian" came topped with a boiled egg, spinach, and green onions. The broth had a strong mala flavor, particularly leaning towards spiciness (from chili). I thought this level of spice would be suitable for a semi-solid dish like mapo tofu, but as a noodle soup, it was quite intense—almost overwhelming even for someone like me who enjoys spicy food. The knife-cut noodles were about 2 centimeters wide and softer than I expected. They weren't as firm as thinner noodles, but they did a good job of soaking up the broth, which kept the spiciness prevalent. Achieving that level of heat likely requires many spices, and the noodles have a unique texture. However, I did notice a lack of ingredients, which was a bit disappointing. Unfortunately, I couldn’t find any way to mitigate the spiciness, and I ended up sweating quite a bit. It took me about 30 minutes to finish the dish. Overall, the flavor was good.
**Service: 3.1**
The lunch service was provided by a female owner and a male staff member. The male staff seemed a bit inexperienced (service was slow, and there was confusion during checkout), but they showed a willingness to provide good service, so I expect things will improve over time. As I was leaving, the female owner kindly saw me off at the entrance. The rice was complimentary with my order. Since this was the third stop on my food walk, I requested a small portion, but it felt like a standard size. They mentioned that items like cilantro are available on a separate table.
**Atmosphere: 3.1**
The restaurant had a spacious interior with plenty of room at the table. However, there were some cardboard boxes stacked up, and what looked like a gas cylinder at the edge of the counter. The background music was Western pop. There were no customers when I arrived, but about seven people came in after me, presumably regular customers from a local Chinese group.
**Cost Performance: 3.0**
The "Mala Daoxiao Mian" was 900 yen, and the white rice was free.
**Drinks:** - The details are unknown.
After I placed my order, I overheard a pair of Japanese women talking about how spicy the food was, so it wasn't just me who found the dishes hot. I also noticed that there was a standalone option for "Sichuan Mapo Tofu," which might have suited my preference better. Ordering rice alongside the main dish might have been a more fitting choice for me as well.
