This shop was one I had been wanting to visit many times. There is no parking lot, so I couldn't find the right timing, but finally I passed through the curtain and was impressed (laughs). It's a long-established soba restaurant with a lot of atmosphere. They had duck on the menu, but no duck soba?! I was a little disappointed (laughs). I ordered the following: Tempura Soba for 1300 yen, Tanuki Topped Soba for 800 yen. Tanuki Topped Soba is when you close it with an egg. It was cold, so I went with the unusual Tanuki Topped Soba. Soba filled with fluffy egg. The combination of egg and tempura bits is perfect for a cold day. Delicious~♪ The broth is also tasty. Why is soba broth so delicious? I also like the soba at Hachitenan. The tempura is crispy. I had one shrimp tempura. This will be my last restaurant soba of the year. I will also have soba at home on the 31st, but I didn't visit many soba restaurants this year (laughs). Thank you for a wonderful year of posting on Tabelog! Please continue to support me next year as well. Have a great New Year~٩(^‿^)۶

I had been curious about this place because it's in my neighborhood, but I finally visited. I went around noon on a weekday. The restaurant was full, but luckily someone left just as I arrived, so I didn't have to wait long to be seated. Since it was still hot that day, I ordered the tororo soba for 800 yen with a large portion for an extra 100 yen. Eating yam will give you energy. The soba was served in the style of the famous Morekawa soba. The dipping sauce was on the sweeter side. I didn't have high expectations, but the soba had a nice texture and was surprisingly delicious. Thank you for the meal!

Today was perfect weather for ski jumping at Maruyama Park! The wind was fairly calm, allowing for smooth jumps that ended in no time. Afterward, I enjoyed some soba noodles at the park. Even in winter, they serve cold soba noodles in a traditional style with grated radish on top. It was delicious! My friend had the tempura soba, which was also tasty. The prices are reasonable, attracting locals to this hidden gem of a restaurant. Thank you for the delicious meal!

The diamond-shaped store sign that stands out on the wall exudes a nostalgic charm. In the pure white snowscape, it has a dignified presence. Stepping under the large noren curtain, you are greeted by a Showa-era atmosphere that seems to say, "Here lies the essence of the old days." Inside the cold shop, the exposed stove in the center emits a soft heat through its chimney, adding to the cozy ambiance. Oh, no, it's not that exaggerated. But it feels heartwarming like an old-fashioned diner. The steamed soba noodles cost 600 yen. The background music is the soothing sounds of a radio broadcast. The sound of water being poured over the noodles and the slurping of the men with stubble add to the atmosphere. Lift the long, thick soba noodles high with your chopsticks, dip them in the cup, and slurp them up. The umami flavor of the broth spreads in your mouth. The soft texture of the white soba noodles and the sweet, light broth complement each other. Pour hot water from the kettle into the cup, drink it up, and head to the cashier. The conversation between the regular customer and the landlady, although dry, had a warm feel to it. As always, they seem to enjoy drinking during lunch. It was delicious. Thank you for the meal.

This is a neighborhood soba restaurant that feels like a traditional, old-fashioned place! As soon as it opened, several regular customers came in. They each grabbed a newspaper from on top of the refrigerator and sat down without talking to the hostess, quietly eating or reading the newspaper. There was no sense of being out of place, perhaps because everyone was dining alone. The Sapporo Black Label beer has a sharp and refreshing taste. The tempura assortment was a bit oily in terms of frying, but the ingredients themselves were tasty. The large zaru soba was firm and chewy, lacking a strong flavor but with a satisfying texture. It was a weekday lunch, and the restaurant quickly filled up, with a few groups waiting for a table. There were no counter seats, just a few two-person tables and a large table for five or six people. Even solo diners were seated at the large table, which later had to be shared with a group of four, making the solo diners feel a bit uncomfortable. That was a bit of a downside. Overall, the meal was delicious! Thank you for the feast.

It's a nearby place, but it was my first visit to the neighborhood association... About a 5-minute walk from Maruyama Koen Station, there is "Hattenan Maruyama Branch" on a Sunday afternoon. There were four or five customers already inside, and there was a TV on the wall. I sat at a table for four and ordered the "seiro" soba for 550 yen. The two local men nearby seemed to be enjoying their afternoon with some drinks. The soba that arrived after about 10 minutes reminded me a lot of the soba from "Tokei," with a rectangular shape and a similar texture. The soba here seemed a bit shorter, but had a similar roughness and thickness to the moreuma soba. The amount seemed a bit less than Tokei's. The broth also had a similar thickness, but maybe lacked a bit of bonito flavor. Still, for 550 yen, I was very satisfied. This place is actually known as a popular daytime drinking spot around here, where people come in alone and order a beer. It attracts a lot of drinkers in the afternoon, as there is no idle time. In warmer weather, the doors are left wide open, giving passersby a glimpse of the lively atmosphere inside the shop. I'll come back next time for some soba and daytime drinking. Thank you for the meal!

My desktop computer broke down, but I finally received a new one and I am currently in the process of transferring data. It has been a bit delayed due to being my first time using Windows 10 and also because of health reasons. I will be catching up on likes and comments gradually. Thank you for your understanding. This is my second review for December 2018. Back in November 2015, I visited "Hachiten-an Maruyama Store," a soba restaurant that exudes a Showa era charm. Established in 1981, this year marks their 36th anniversary. The restaurant follows the tradition of the main Hachiten-an store known for their "nishin soba." Each branch has its own unique menu, offering a variety of soba dishes. The secret recipe for the "nishin" used in the "nishin soba" is only known to those who have trained at the main store, making each branch's version slightly different. Personally, I prefer the taste of the "nishin" at the main store. The exterior of the restaurant is understated but carries the dignified air of a long-standing establishment. The interior also reflects its age with a traditional design. The prices are reasonable, typical of a local soba restaurant, ranging from 550 yen for a basic soba to 1200 yen for a premium dish. During my visit, I ordered the "nishin soba" served warm. The dish featured a large piece of herring alongside other toppings like fuki and takenoko. The herring had a subtle flavor and a few small bones were still slightly firm. The soba itself had a familiar taste reminiscent of the main store. The noodles were cooked perfectly and had a well-balanced broth that was not overly strong. The price of 1080 yen was quite affordable for a dish of this quality. My companion ordered the "hiyashi tanuki" cold soba, which came with toppings like kanikama, cucumber, nori, quail egg, and tempura bits. The broth had a good balance of dashi and soy sauce, providing a smooth and mellow flavor that complemented the soba well. Priced at 650 yen, it was a great value for a satisfying meal. In conclusion, Hachiten-an Maruyama Store offers delicious and reasonably priced soba dishes. It is a rare find in the upscale area of Maruyama, where many restaurants cater to a more affluent clientele. The average age of customers is quite high, reflecting a trend I have noticed in soba restaurants. Despite this, the restaurant remains a gem for those seeking affordable and high-quality soba. I look forward to visiting again and trying their "nishin soba." Thank you for the delicious meal.

Lunchtime visit. It was a weekday, and only Dad had a day off. He had no plans at all, so he decided to take a leisurely stroll. Dad said, "I'll find something good (^o^)." It seems like he had a big goal, but not much can be expected from Dad's perspective. Well, the only highlight was the candy store near Nayaho Station, though (^^). So, when he came back home, I asked him how his solo day off was. Dad said, "It was interesting." Oh, really? "I visited a soba restaurant for lunch..." Oh, I see. He visited this restaurant. Dad ordered the "cold zaru soba" with extra noodles. According to Dad, the restaurant mainly has table seats, but there is a raised seating area in the back right corner. Since Dad was alone, he chose to sit at the large communal table in the back left corner. So, what did you have? "There was only one other customer who was eating mori soba. I liked the soba, but I couldn't sample it, so it was the usual routine!" I see. Dad said, "You can tell how much effort a restaurant puts into their soba." Why is that? "You see, some places serve traditional soba, while others top it with freshly fried tempura. The way they cut the cucumber and kamaboko is different." I see. "Some places serve grated daikon instead of wasabi. It's a gamble for first-time visitors." I see. How was it...? "The 'cold zaru soba' here has a somewhat fancy presentation. But I didn't need the imitation crab." I see. "The use of quail eggs in the middle was the highlight this time." I see. "The soba was just okay in terms of thickness, and the taste was standard." I see. "The broth was flat, not too spicy or sweet." I see. And what about the little enemy, the quail egg? It was sunk to the bottom of the bowl without me noticing... I even accidentally ate some of the shell... Overall, how was it? "Yeah. If you want to eat a lot without feeling too guilty in this area, this place is recommended." I see. Will I be okay too? "You'll be fine. But you know...?" But what? "...never mind. So, shall we go see?" Oh, yes! Thank you for the meal.

This is a soba restaurant located along Nishi 25th Street near the subway Maruyama Park in Sapporo's Chuo Ward. It is a great place for a Sunday stroll as they are open on Sundays. The restaurant is conveniently located on my walking route, making it a perfect spot for a leisurely Sunday walk with soba and drinks. The retro exterior and cozy interior give off a nostalgic vibe of a traditional soba shop. I arrived early when there were only two other customers. I started with a beer and ordered the herring soba, which I was craving after having herring as a snack the night before. The herring was large and flavorful, with a strong aroma. The soba noodles were soft and the broth slightly sweet, complementing the herring well. Overall, it was a satisfying meal on my Sunday soba stroll.

There is no parking lot. Maybe it's a local favorite? This is the Maruyama branch of the well-known Sapporo soba chain, "Hachitenan." The old-fashioned town soba shop style gives a comforting sense of security. The menu also sticks to simple, standard items without any fancy twists. Oh, there's a notice saying that prices will be increased starting from 50 yen due to rising ingredient costs. The "seiro" for 550 yen is a simple yet slightly thick soba in THE Hachitenan style, which is often compared to "Toke." The broth is a light type that is easy for everyone to enjoy. It's better for those looking for a light and reasonably priced meal. However, there are no set menu options with rice bowls here, which shows the shop's commitment to being a soba shop. In conclusion, this shop is a "good shop." It may not be a high-end, authentic soba shop, but they handle everything from cooking to serving with care. Whether it's the soba noodles, toppings, or even the service, everything is done meticulously. Therefore, no matter what you order, you're likely to leave feeling satisfied and content. There are plenty of sloppy shops even among authentic hand-made soba shops, so it's important for shops like this to continue shining quietly and steadily.

Long, long ago, there was a shop called Hachitenan in Maruyama, and it still exists today, but I haven't been there in a while. The atmosphere of the restaurant is nostalgic, with a retro Showa era feel that is hard to recreate. The hot pot udon I ordered was comforting and delicious, with a mellow broth and soft noodles. The ingredients were plentiful, and the raw egg added a creamy richness to the dish. The soba noodles, with their sweet and mellow broth, also brought back memories of the past. The restaurant was crowded with regular customers, and the smoke-free environment and friendly service added to the overall experience. A place that has been loved by the community for a long time, it is a nostalgic and charming spot that I hope will continue to thrive. Around 2002, this restaurant is located in a prime location in Maruyama and has a quaint atmosphere that is oddly calming. The prices are reasonable, and the taste is similar to a typical soba restaurant found in any town. I recommend trying the Nishin soba, which features sweetened herring on top of soba noodles. The taste and texture of the soba are ordinary, and the broth is slightly sweet but overall, the experience is quite average. The service is decent as well.

Welcome! Located in Chuo Ward, on the west side of Maruyama district, along Nishi 25-chome Street, there is an old-fashioned building where a delivery bike is always parked in the middle of the road, which can be quite annoying. The second floor is Toraya, when should we go? Now is the time! *ring ring* The atmosphere of the Showa era soba shop is something I haven't experienced since I was in elementary school, but it hasn't changed at all. It's pretty crowded, but it's only 12:30 so we should wait until we are seated. The kitchen is run by the father, and the customer service is managed by the mother. It seems like a family affair. If you're dining alone, you might have to share a table with others, so be prepared. During the wait, I decide on my order. In addition to soba, they also have udon. It's the perfect time for some nabe-yaki udon! Which means...nabe-yaki soba is a must as well! While waiting, the soba is boiled, and shortly after we sit down, a generous portion is served. The broth has a gentle sweetness with a strong katsuobushi flavor, likely to be loved by the older generation. For soba enthusiasts, it might be considered too sweet! The soba has a good chew, with a gradual release of sweetness with each bite. Nowadays, the ladies eat their portion with ease, as if it were nothing. The nabe-yaki udon has a sweetness in the broth that can be enjoyed from the steam, and a poached egg to top it off. The udon is not as chewy as the soba, almost cutting through without needing to bite. With the warm soba served at this time of year, the restaurant also warms up, as does the body. I hope that this old-fashioned space will remain the same in the future. I wonder if the delivery bike outside is ridden by the father. Thank you for the meal!

Thank you very much to all the reviewers, including My Reviewer, for reading the reviews this year. I look forward to your continued support in 2013. As it's New Year's Eve, let's review a soba restaurant. Yatendoan Maruyama, which follows the flow of the main store of Nishin Soba. It was founded in 1981. It is a local store in Maruyama, but it had been a long time since I last visited. I visited just before 1 pm at the end of the year. There was only one customer before me, but there were many customers behind me. The exterior is not very noticeable, but it has an atmosphere of a long-established store. The interior also has a traditional feel. There is no modern sense of fashion. Inside the store, there are three 4-person tables, one 2-person table, and one 6-person table for solo diners. The store is not large, but compact. I sat at a 4-person table. Looking at the menu, it's typical of a local soba restaurant, with prices being affordable. A seiro soba costs 450 yen. The most expensive item, tempura soba, costs 1050 yen. I ordered the Nishin Soba. Nishin Soba in a warm broth. It came with one and a half pieces of herring, along with butterbur and bamboo shoots. Unlike the main store, they used conventional filleted herring. It was seasoned lightly with a simmered flavor. The small bones still had some hardness to them. The dried filleted herring flavor was strong, quite different from the main store's taste. The soba had a taste reminiscent of the main store. It was easy to eat with a good texture. The soba flavor was slightly less than the main store. The noodles were perfectly cooked and delicious. The broth was not too strong in bonito flavor. It had a well-balanced and tasty flavor. At 950 yen, it was affordable for Nishin Soba. I also tried the Curry Nan Soba. The ingredients were chicken and leeks. The curry was quite strong in flavor, typical of curry soba. The broth itself had a curry flavor. The sauce was not very prominent. The soba had the same texture as the Nishin Soba. It was resilient even when hot. The Curry Nan Soba cost 600 yen, which was a good deal. Both dishes were served warm. The soba had a good texture and did not get soggy. The herring had a strong flavor of filleted herring, which may vary depending on personal preference. Personally, I prefer the herring in the Nishin Soba at the main store. It is rare to find a place that serves herring soba at such an affordable price. It is a high-quality local soba restaurant that is cheap. In the upscale and trendy Maruyama area, it is a rare and affordable soba restaurant. The average age of customers is high. We were the youngest customers there. I have been noticing lately that the average age of customers at soba restaurants is very high. Younger people may prefer places like McDonald's. It is easy to visit as it is in the Maruyama area. It is a cheap and excellent soba restaurant. I look forward to trying the zaru or nabeyaki soba next time. It was delicious, thank you for the meal.

In December 2012, I occasionally give in to my craving for soba and end up visiting this local soba shop in town. I appreciate that they are open all day. On this chilly day, I had warm soba. I ordered the "nishin soba" for 950 yen. The soba noodles were of a medium thickness typical of local soba. They were cooked just right. The broth was not too thick, slightly sweet, with the flavor of simmered herring mixed in, giving it a nice touch. The large, flaky herring was the highlight. The garnish was green onions. For some reason, I only feel like having this when I'm in Hokkaido. The service was appropriate. Thank you for the meal. Last time, I tried changing the nabe yaki udon to soba when the shop was not busy (no photo). I like to try something different when the shop is not crowded. (laughs)

It seems like only locals come to this restaurant, and they don't seem to be too particular about it, but the food is quite delicious. Plus, it's cheap - the curry nanban is 650 yen, with options starting from 450 yen. I don't think the prices have changed in about 15 years. I've only had the curry nanban, and my wife has only had the tempura soba, but we're always satisfied. We're not too picky about soba, but this place is recommended for when you occasionally crave it.
