Located just a short walk from Tamachi Kyuchome Station, in a northeastern alley, is Wasai Soara. This cozy traditional Japanese izakaya offers authentic Japanese cuisine at reasonable prices in a relaxed atmosphere. The ambiance is casual, but the food is top-notch. Feeling like having a drink out of the blue, I decided to go to Wasai Soara. It's a popular spot, but it's easier to make reservations during these times. I used to have a friend who lived nearby (actually, right across the street), and we always said we should go, but you know how it is, time flies, and it took us over 10 years to finally make it there. Starting with a draft beer for 500 yen, and then of course, moving on to sake♡ We ordered the following for two people:
- Appetizers (simmered abalone, tea-pickled sea cucumber, blowfish, marinated sardines, etc.)
- White sweetfish, lightly pickled mackerel
- Shrimp and scallop with grated yam in a deep-fried broth
- Crab miso gratin
- Clam tempura
- Scallop and rapeseed butter flavor
- Blowfish tempura
- Grilled fatty tuna
- Oyster and milk noodles
Sakes:
- Shiga, Matsunotsukasa Junmai Ginjo for 1300 yen
- Nara, Choryu Shikisaku Yamahai Junmai Ginjo, Unfiltered Raw Sake, from Okayama, Yumachi
- Aomori, Tanaka Sake Yamahai-brewed Special Junmai Sake, followed by Kenhachi on the rocks for 500 yen
Starting with the appetizers that looked like an assortment of appetizers, with my favorite tea-pickled sea cucumber, delicious blowfish, and marinated sardines, all perfectly seasoned. The sashimi consisted of two of my favorite dishes beautifully presented. The fragrant white sweetfish and lightly pickled mackerel were of excellent quality. The shrimp and scallop with grated yam in a deep-fried broth was comforting with its delicious broth. Then came the irresistible crab miso and cheese gratin♡ Sake goes well with everything, right?
Tempura and fried foods are always a must for me, so we also ordered clam tempura, which was perfectly fried. The spicy kick of the blowfish tempura was incredibly delicious. For the finale, we had my favorite fatty tuna and milk noodles to savor the broth. And of course, more sake to accompany the meal!
The atmosphere is calm, but you can casually enjoy the food at this place. The dishes are authentic and delicious, making it a great restaurant for when you crave something tasty. Thank you for the wonderful meal.
