Inside the restaurant: The restaurant has a counter with 5 seats and a couple of small raised seating areas for 4 people, giving it a cozy snack bar vibe. It seems to be a favorite spot for locals in a small town. The place is relatively clean, making it a comfortable place to enjoy a meal.
Service: During the evening izakaya hours, there was a friendly mama-san present. Despite feeling a bit awkward interrupting a conversation between regular customers upon entering, she kindly welcomed me, even though I was alone. On this day, they were only serving the "great value set" which includes 3 drinks of your choice.
- Otoshi (boiled fish cake and mountain vegetables): It had a slightly strong flavor, but it paired well with beer and was delicious.
- Ginger pork with rice: It was a perfect match for rice, but also a great beer snack. The soft-boiled egg added a creamy touch, making it even better.
- Asazuke of Yubari melon (complimentary dish): This was a unique treat! Small Yubari melons thinned out and pickled. The salty taste was balanced by a hint of sweetness from the Yubari melon, leaving a pleasant aftertaste.
Overall, coming all the way from far-off Kushiro, I had a delightful time with the regular customers. We chatted about local stories, Longnuma and Kanehiro Genghis Khan, and I got to hear some valuable information. Everyone there was so friendly, just like in a countryside tavern. This is why I can't resist the chance encounters during my travels!
