Established in 1998 at the Merchen Intersection in Otaru, the name "LeTAO" comes from the French phrase "La Tour Amitié Otaru," meaning "beloved Otaru tower." LeTAO is a confectionery brand under the KCC company based in Chitose City, with multiple stores in Hokkaido and Japan, as well as overseas. One of their newer shops is "Nouvelle Vague LeTAO Chocolatier," specializing in chocolates, located in Otaru. They offer a variety of unique chocolate treats, including the seasonal Rich Chocolat Fraise. This review covers the experience of trying the limited edition Strawberry Milk version of the Rich Chocolat Fraise, which was enjoyed on a bench outside the store. The dessert featured a rich soft serve ice cream with berry toppings and a strawberry milk base, providing a refreshing and fruity treat on a hot day in Hokkaido.

Basically, this is a store mainly for selling, so there is only space for two tables inside for eating. Rich Chocolate Frappe for 700 yen is generally quite sweet. It has chocolate ice cream inside and berries on top, so you can eat it while feeling refreshed. Perfect for taking a break while strolling through Otaru.

This is a chocolate specialty store of LeTAO located on the main street of Otaru. They were offering samples at the entrance, which were so delicious that I ended up buying some. I highly recommend buying LeTAO chocolates here!

I arrived at around 2:30 PM. Out of the three LeTAO stores in Sakaimachi, it was only available at one store. It was very crowded with people buying soft serve ice cream and cakes for tea time. Whether you were dining in or taking out, you had to wait in the same line and take your order in order. Despite two staff members working at full capacity, I waited for 15 minutes. I had the Venetian Rendezvous (mini) (350 yen) for takeout. The expiration date was 2 hours! The cold tart with creme brulee on top is served with caramelized surface, which makes it crispy and delicious. The thin thickness makes it easy to eat with one hand. It would have been perfect if it was served with soft serve ice cream in the cafe.

Letao only sells chocolate. Their samples are generous (lol) and just that can satisfy your stomach... but not mine. It's a bit lighter compared to GODIVA, very delicious. It's easier to eat than soft serve, especially in the hot weather.

The atmosphere of the store is adult-oriented and calm, which is nice. They offer small chocolate treats to customers, which naturally draws you in. The staff do a good job of guiding you into the store. The employees greet you with a smile and provide good customer service, without being overly talkative or too friendly. They maintain a minimal level of interaction and let you decide for yourself. It's quite enjoyable. Inside the store, there are only a few tables and chairs where you can enjoy a chocolate drink in a relaxed setting, away from the crowded stores. However, the trash cans are located outside the store on the left side of the door, so if you don't know, you might not be able to throw away your trash. The staff won't provide information unless asked. They don't go out of their way to tell you things. It's a bit tricky... but I preferred it over excessive customer service. I'm looking forward to sharing the souvenirs with my friends.

Visited in the evening on a holiday. Soft serve ice cream is available for purchase at the back of the shop. There are two small tables inside where you can eat in. I purchased the "Mariage Chocolat" (420 yen), which is a mix of chocolate and vanilla soft serve. Payment was possible with PayPay. I ordered a "Mariage Chocolat" for 420 yen. It's stylish not to say "mix", haha. It's a soft serve ice cream that provides nutrition to my tired body. I thought Ratao was a company from Otaru, but it turns out they have a parent company called Keishiiishi in Chitose, with a shady-sounding company name. Just when I thought it ended there, their parent company is actually located all the way in Tottori under the name Jus Spirits. I always thought they were a local Hokkaido company, so I was really rooting for them. Oh, you didn't think I was rooting for you? Oh, you're saying that now? Well, whatever. I thought I was supporting you. I thought the fluffy packaging of the snacks would be fluffy inside too, but it turned out to be a chocolate mousse-like filling sandwiched between pie crust, not fluffy at all. It's delicious, though.

In September 2022, when visiting Otaru, be sure to visit LeTAO! There are many stores, but I visited the chocolate specialty shop NUBOUGUBERG. The tea-flavored langue de chat they were handing out at the storefront was exquisite, so I bought it as a souvenir. I was looking forward to the chocolate soft serve, so I had the vanilla & chocolate mix in a cup. The rich chocolate was delicious. Even though chocolate alone is delicious enough, the vanilla was also rich and delicious. Thank you for the meal.

The top part was a rich chocolate ice cream with a dense sweetness, while the bottom part was a refreshing strawberry pudding, allowing me to enjoy two different flavors and textures. The appearance was also cute and Instagram-worthy. I was able to have an elegant moment while sitting on a bench outside, overlooking the quaint streets of Otaru.

There are various types of chocolates at LeTAO in Hokkaido. I tried the Niagara grape chocolate, Niagara Chocolat Blanc, and Fleur, which has a hint of wine in it. It melts in your mouth instantly, and I ate it with a small fork. I found a fork shaped like a bowling pin at an antique shop in Nemuro, and I was thrilled when I found it! I think it would cost thousands of yen in an antique shop in Kyoto, but I got it at a very cheap price. It's located near my daughter's place, so it's connected to Hokkaido. When you take the chocolate out of the package, it has a nice grape scent and melts softly in your mouth. One box disappeared in no time. It was a luxurious chocolate!

Otaru City is a popular tourist destination in Hokkaido. Among them, Sakaimachi Street is lined with many stylish shops and bustling with tourists. There are plenty of pastry shops, but one of the most popular is this shop where the famous Otaru pastry shop LeTAO is located. At the entrance of the shop, they offer samples of pastries, and they gave me a small bag of THENOIR, saying "Please try this chilled pastry." Intrigued by this service, I ended up entering the shop. The stylish display makes you feel like you are in a tourist destination. The pastries are all delicious and perfect as souvenirs!

After eating sea urchin bowl in Shakotan, I took a stroll in Otaru on the way back. Before the pandemic, they used to offer free samples, but it seems like they're not doing it now for infection control. The Niagara chocolate is really delicious, right? I'm weak against limited edition items like Santellian, so I was curious, but it was too hot today. I had the Rich Chocolat Fraise. The chocolate was rich and sweet! Thank you for the meal.

Otaru City in Hokkaido is the headquarters of LeTAO Niagara Chocolat Blanc Fraise. The white chocolate with Niagara grapes is incredibly rich, like eating something milky. It has a stylish taste that reminds you of Niagara wine. Even though it looks simple, the taste is unbelievably delicious. It's so good every time you eat it. I really love Hokkaido's chocolates and sweets.

I visited around 2 pm on 7/25. This shop is a specialty store for chocolate sweets located near the Ratao main store. I purchased various chocolates, including "Niagara Chocolat Blanc Fleur ¥864", and I am very satisfied. I will visit again.

I got the Amand and Royalty Chocolat from SANTERIAN to take out. The Royalty Chocolat was not as sweet as hot chocolate and had a hint of tea flavor, making it sweet but easy to drink. The Amand from SANTERIAN was delicious with its crunchy almonds and rich praline. The Fraisier looked delicious too but was sold out. I stopped by on my way back from Pathos, and it was also very empty.

I went to eat the Lucchocolate at LeTao, which is always rich and delicious. The interior of the store had a Christmas atmosphere with a tree. I bought Chocolate Double and Niagara Chocolate as souvenirs. Niagara Chocolate is my favorite among LeTao products, it creates a chocolate revolution in my mouth. The staff said it contains a lot of fresh cream.

There are several LeTAO stores on Koji Machidori Street, which mainly specialize in chocolates. I tried their chocolate soft serve ice cream, which had a taste reminiscent of a mix between vanilla and cheese. The unique cheese flavor from LeTAO was delicious. It's perfect for a hot day of sightseeing.

This time, I visited the NUBELBERG LeTAO Chocolatier Otaru Main Store in Hokkaido to buy souvenirs for my wife and children when I went to Hokkaido. The store is located just a few minutes' walk from Minami-Otaru Station. The store is a chocolatier operated by LeTAO, a representative Western confectionery store in Otaru. This time, I tried the store-exclusive item, "Santerian." 1. Santerian Frais: A chocolate made with cranberries, raspberries, and strawberries. The harmony of sweetness and acidity is excellent. 2. Santerian Gorgonzola: A product that combines Gorgonzola cheese, dried figs, and walnuts. It goes well with wine too. There were many other attractive products, but I resisted this time.
