ジョウジクルゥニィ
- Mixed sugar
- Otaru strawberry shortcake (limited time)
- Fresh cream
- Homemade custard
I purchased the above items for a total of 1341 yen. Despite the appearance, the dough is thin and resembles bread dough, as shown in the photo. The outer layer is fluffy, while the inside is chewy, similar to the texture of a "mochi" bread crust. Since they are fried, the outer part is a bit juicy.
There were comments about it being undercooked, but when I tried it, it was not an issue. The dough seemed to have a high moisture content. All the donuts are sold and packaged in an upright position, resulting in a slightly dense lower part that is delicious.
[Mixed Sugar]
This type does not have cream inside, with fine powdered sugar sprinkled on top. It has a plain and fluffy texture, with oil seeping out as you chew, making it delicious. Be careful as a lot of powdered sugar falls off while eating, so it's better to avoid eating it in the car. It deflates over time, so it's best to eat it right after buying it. Recommended for those who enjoy a fluffy texture.
[Otaru Strawberry Shortcake]
This type has cream inside, with strawberries on top. It contains strawberry-flavored whipped cream, with a strong milk taste and a light strawberry flavor. The taste is more like a light strawberry milk than a shortcake. When you bite into it, the whipped cream bursts out like a cream puff, so be cautious.
[Fresh Cream]
This type has cream inside, with a slightly refreshing taste, not too rich or too light.
[Homemade Custard]
This type has cream inside, but it was a disappointment as it was just a regular custard cream without any special twist or flavoring.
The store has a stylish atmosphere with trendy background music. The ordering process involves one staff member taking orders and placing them on a tray for payment, while another staff member packages the items.
Hokkaido residents tend to dislike waiting in line, and many people were buying in large quantities (10 or more), resulting in a slow turnover rate. I visited on a Saturday, which was rainy and windy with a high of 14 degrees. There were already 5 people waiting 20 minutes before opening, and the line grew to 20-30 people by 11:30. However, the queue was manageable inside the store after opening.
Since there is no parking lot, it is recommended to walk from the subway station. It is best to eat the donuts fresh, so I enjoyed the mixed sugar and shortcake at a nearby park bench. After returning home, I tried the custard and cream, and the different textures of the dough were evident. Personally, I don't think I would repeat the experience. I had high expectations as a donut lover, but unfortunately, they were not met. Adding a twist to the cream could make it even more delicious. It lacks the aroma of alcohol or any unique flavor. However, it is a popular shop, so it could be a good gift for people of all ages and genders.
