The back area is a bar, and the staff are all fluent in English and multiple languages, providing excellent service. I was able to enjoy a relaxed tea time there. The matcha kakigori (shaved ice) infused with a hint of sake was rich and delicious.

I visited a cafe that seemed like a hidden gem, located down a narrow alley off the South Gate Road of Kodaiji Temple. I had sweet potato yokan served with vanilla ice cream and a delicious espresso. The yokan had just the right firmness and sweetness, while the espresso had a pleasant bitterness. The cute cat logo on the noren ( Japanese fabric divider) added a charming touch and made for a relaxing experience.

On a hot day in Kyoto, I happened to stop by this renovated machiya cafe while waiting for work. The wooden counter bar was very stylish, and I guessed it might turn into a bar at night. The interior was very calming. This time, I ordered the strawberry shaved ice. The fresh strawberry syrup was delightful, the whipped cream was delicious, and the shaved ice was fluffy. It was a great way to refresh myself.
