The name of the restaurant is a bit unusual from the start. "Papi Pupe Popo" ... I don't understand why a Western-style restaurant would have such a naming. I haven't been there for years. This time, I didn't take any pictures, but the exterior of the restaurant is bright yellow and eye-catching. It has a strangely flashy vibe to it. Inside the restaurant, it feels a bit cluttered. There are counter seats and table seats, but even during lunchtime, there wasn't a single customer. I settled in at a seat by the window. After a while, I heard some rustling noises. Then, a wobbly Shiba Inu with shaky legs appeared... I remembered why I stopped going to this restaurant. This dog was the reason. If I go to eat on a relaxed day off, I might find the dog cute. But when I enter the restaurant in a suit during work and see a Shiba Inu wandering around, it's a bit... unsettling. If the dog comes close, its fur might stick to my pants, and I wonder how appropriate it is for a restaurant to have a dog roaming around, especially when serving food. The dog seems quite old, with unsteady legs, sitting quietly under the table. Now, the menu is quite extensive. There were over a dozen options for the 500 yen lunch alone. The Hamburg lunch was also reasonably priced at 680 yen. Today, I ordered the Katsudon for 500 yen. The atmosphere of the restaurant didn't quite suit me, but the Katsudon itself was delicious. The breading had a fragrant lard aroma and a crispy texture. The amount of meat was sufficient considering the price. The sauce was a bit too sweet for my taste, but it seemed to be the standard seasoning in Hokkaido. The miso soup had minced clams and enoki mushrooms in it. It had a good dashi base and was well-prepared. The pickles were not the usual garish cucumber pickles but a simple pickled Chinese cabbage, which was tasty. The price of 500 yen is unbelievably cheap. There is another restaurant in Kita 24-jo that serves delicious tonkatsu, but they raised their prices last year, and a Katsudon alone costs 550 yen. Adding miso soup makes it even more expensive. Of course, their miso soup uses instant dashi, so the taste is not as good. In addition, they also offer an Omu-rice for 500 yen, which is hard to believe. If the atmosphere of the restaurant suits your taste, you will definitely become a regular customer. Another thing that caught my attention is their website design. They seem to be experimenting quite a bit, with some hidden links (laughs). The most surprising thing is that they use YouTube for menu introductions. I thought they would showcase something in a video, but it's just a slideshow of menu photos. I wish they would present the menu in a more straightforward manner. By the way, if you promote the restaurant online and provide the URL, they offer a drink service. I'm not particularly impressed by this kind of approach though. Nevertheless, Kita 24-jo is a treasure trove of 500 yen lunches. This is the third restaurant, and all of them have high-quality food. I plan to wander around the Kita 24-jo area again in search of affordable lunches next time.
