"April 2020 First Visit" The familiar "株式会社 FOOD COLLECT" which operates the famous "Naruto-ya" known for its half-fried chicken and Zangi, has opened a takeout-only yakitori shop. Located adjacent to the main store of "Naruto-ya" (Asasato Main Store), in fact, it is connected to the same building, and orders can also be placed from the Naruto-ya side. At the same time, although it is a takeout-only establishment, you can also enjoy the menu inside Naruto-ya, so it feels like a store within a store of Naruto-ya. The most notable feature is the incredibly low price of 90 yen per skewer, while many takeout shops are in the range of around 100 yen, making it exceptionally affordable. This time, I ordered all salt-flavored skewers: two each of pork, chicken tenderloin, chicken skin, chicken tail, and gizzard.
- Pork Skewer (Salt): ★★★ The volume and taste are fine, but if there was a bit more fat attached, it would be closer to three and a half stars.
- Chicken Tenderloin Skewer (Salt): ★★ The taste is not bad, but there is a slight lack of volume, perhaps due to the uniform price of 90 yen.
- Chicken Skin Skewer (Salt): ★★ There are volume issues, and the cooking method for this part seems to be a bit off.
- Chicken Tail Skewer (Salt): ★★ This was the most disappointing. While there are no volume or taste issues, the bones are left in during the cutting process, making it uncomfortable to eat while removing the bones.
- Gizzard Skewer (Salt): ★★★ It would be nice if there was a bit more volume, but overall it is satisfactory.
As for the cooking method mentioned with the chicken skin, the completely frozen ingredients are first thawed in hot oil after ordering, and then grilled on a grill. Therefore, the chicken skin skewer, for example, ends up more like fried chicken skin on a skewer rather than traditional yakitori, which is a bit difficult to describe. In short, they seem to stock cheap frozen skewer ingredients for commercial use, thaw them by frying, and then grill them. However, it is a bit concerning why they don't use a microwave for thawing, whether it's a taste issue or a matter of convenience. If it is nearby, it may be good for casual use, but it may not be worth specifically seeking out, in my personal opinion.
